Gross clams and scallops. Brown Cole slaw and disgusting chowder. What happened. I paid over $ 24 for this.

AMAZINGFOOD. Went there with my grandparents and as we arrived I thought the place looked rather sketchy and like a hole in the wall. I got chowder, French fries, and a lobster roll and it was one of the best I’ve ever had! The portions were perfect and the place gave such a welcome feel. It was a little hot in there because there’s no ac but the food was to die for so who cares??? Most definitely will be back there

This place can really use Gordon Ramsey l. Kitchen nightmares The best thing was the beer My wife and I were there last week and were very disappointed. We had clam cakes and steamers to start. Fish and chips for the meal. Steamers were good but clam cakes tasted like Mr clean was added. Service was very slow it took over one hour to get our fish. We were there with almost two hrs and only three tables were full. The fish was terrible smelled old and it was mushy. The most insulting thing was when the bill came wtf steamers cost me 19.00 and waitress said it is market price and that was that. I will hope no one else gets screwed by going there.

June 2015– First visit in over 40 years, ordered seafood platter to go, every thing was very tasty and fresh, fries could use more flavor, but otherwise 5 stars! Last night July 222015– ordered fish and chips to go, the worst food I have ever eaten, there was a inch of batter on this piece of fish which was suppose to be haddock but tasted like cod. There was so much batter on this tiny piece of fish it actual made the carry out container heavy. Fries were horrible, hard and tasted like they had been reheated. I don’t know what happened in a months time but I will never go back there again. Just wasted $ 11.25 plus tax, my dogs enjoyed it though, but than again they would eat anything, no pun intended!

the chowder was hideous. It was like dirty dish water with no clams and a crap load of giant potatoes!!!

This place was amazing. Had a great lobster role, the clam cakes, cinnamon bread, and quahog chowder were all amazing. We have found our new«off the beaten path» Restaurant.

Holy crap! Terrible clam cakes. Just thinking about them induces nausea. They tasted as if they were cooked in rancid oil. One bite left this awful film of grease on my palate that would not go away easy. The chowder was not much better. Had to throw it all in the garbage. I have no clue how this place could have been around so long. Just gross. STAYAWAY!!!

I Went to the Chowder Bowel about two hours ago. Had to check-out the place for myself, no matter what anyone else says! Well, i saw the menu prices and walked out! 4 clam cakes and a small bowl of chowder for $ 17.95: …are they nuts? The table tops were sticky — gooie and we wait much to long before someone noticed us: and when they did notice us, it’s as we walked out! Bellingham is a nice town, but that chowder bowl place is not! Yuck! If your going out tonight, and thinking of going to the chowder bowel… i’d suggest you have a back up plan. That place is not what i’d take a dinner date out to! No kidding!

This place has gone downhill so much I don’t know Why people think it’s so great. It has seen it’s better days and so has the food. Prices are to high for the quality of food you receive. Make it worst some of there supposedly fresh food is frozen food. Clam cakes are nothing but dough and lucky if u find a clam in them. They are sometimes either overcooked or not cooked all the way. Chowder isn’t much better and just bland with No great taste. I would skip this one for sure and find another place.

I really would like to give the Chowder Bowl three or four stars because it is a quaint, New England clam shack, but after wasting over $ 100 on dinner for our family, I can’t! For an appetizer, we had the calamari, complete with frozen marinara sauce. I had a lobster roll and red chowder, with the lobster still frozen. Even worse, the lobster was over-cooked before they froze it! The red chowder was adequate. Hubby had the steamers, again, they were adequate. Our oldest son had clam cakes and white chowder, the clam cakes were ok, nothing special and there weren’t many clams in the chowder. The youngest had a burger(probably the best choice). Three of our meals came with desert, a choice of pudding or ice cream. Our server asked us if we wanted whipped cream, which we of course said«yes», only to find out later it cost 50 cents each. The youngest ordered a pudding and we were charged $ 3.50 for it! The pudding was frozen and the ice cream was freezer burnt! We were shocked that our bill for sub-par food was $ 96BEFORE the tip! We will not be going back for sure!

Although only located less than 10 miles from our home, this was our first visit. It is a great location, hidden away from a well traveled road. I guess that’s why we haven’t tried here sooner. We opted to sit at the outside patio on comfortable summer day. The atmosphere was pleasant and it was obvious that many patrons were return customers. However, that added to our disappointment as we ate our meal. Why were there return customers? It couldn’t possibly be because of the food, could it? We were served a basket of various breads which were very good. I was allowed a sample of a beer that I had never tried and chose to order. So far so good. I ordered the«Shore 2» which consisted of a bowl of chowder, a stuffie, 4 clam cakes and a fish & chip plate. My wife ordered the scallop plate, which she normally chooses at seafood restaurants. The chowder(white) was a good consistency(not thick). The coloring surprised me as it was grey, almost like a clear chowder. The menu stated it was a quahog chowder, so the unusual flavor wasn’t shocking, but might be to someone that expected CLAM chowder. But, by the end of the bowl, I decided it was enjoyable. That was the end of my enjoyment. The clam cakes were rather tasteless. The batter used was a little spongy. That along with the saturation of oil took away any pleasure in eating something I normally enjoy. The stuffie was good, but a little soggy. I didn’t care for the fish as there was more batter than meat. I didn’t even bother with the fries. My wife complained that her scallops were gritty. I thought that was odd, so I tried a couple and I did find some gritty cracking in my teeth(not a pleasant feeling). I expect that when having steamers that haven’t been rinsed properly, but not in scallops. All in all it was a disappointing experience and I doubt we’ll be back. Although in all fairness, my brother had eaten there some months ago and was well satisfied. Different cook, different day?

This place was truly a great find. With both indoor and outdoor seating set back in the woods, the atmosphere was comfortable and adorable. The food was tasty large portions, served by smiling and friendly waitstaff. Can’t wait to come back again with my whole family and sit in the beautiful large farm tables out back! :)

I was hoping to love this place because it is so unique given the remote location by the lake and the charismatic house/building for a restaurant. I was also happy, being this the first time to try this place out, I just made the seasonal closing date of Sept 9th. But unfortunately I was not impressed with the food I took to-go. I got a pint of white chowder and ½ dozen clam cakes. Chowder had way too much potatoes, that were pretty mushy and the flavor didn’t seem right. The clam cakes were poorly done and came out in this weird long shape. I am telling myself since it is at the end of the season, I should try it out again once it reopens. I asked the window attendant when that was and she didn’t know. Hope things are different next time around.

This is my favorite seafood place in Northern Rhode Island! They have delicious food and a great atmosphere. This place reminds me of childhood and brings back all those good memories. Has outdoor seating and cute Americana decorations. I recommend their lobster roll, New England Chowder, and fried whole belly clams.

We look forward to the Chowder Bowl each summer. We enjoy clam cakes, chowder, lobster rolls, desserts, and the bar for drinks. I think they open May 15.

First and foremost they DONOTACCEPTCREDIT/DEBT CARDS. Nothing is more funny then see someone try to pay for their bill with a card here. That was just a warning not a complaint. The interior of this restaurant once home is VERY cramped but they do have outdoor seating. Which I should warn you around dusk the misquotes come out. Although they do have citronella candles burning they don’t do much. I really enjoy the white chowder. It isn’t the run of the mill chowder there are different herbs and spices. I would have preferred them to take the bay leaves our before serving it but that wasn’t tooo big of a problem. The clam cakes were hit or miss. some had lots of clams some didn’t. They’re greasy but yummy and very crunchy. Bucket of steamers were pleasant and I would defiantly get those again. The fried seafood platter wasn’t spectacular(fried oysters, smelts, scallops, fish, shrimp, clam strips, french friends and onion rings). The scallops, clam strips, shrimp and fish were pretty good. The french fries were sparse and your average«fish and chip» fry. The onion rings weren’t cooked through at all and tasted of vinigar. Everything else wasn’t very good at all. Overall this visit wasn’t a pleasant one.

I paid another visit, and this time, found the atmosphere to still be delightful, but our medium sized group found the quality of the food to be a bit uneven on the second visit. I’ll be checking in with my sister, who lives a lot closer, and can visit more regularly, to see if we just happened to catch the kitchen on an off night. The back patio area is the kind of place I’d love to spend a summer evening.

I am officially renaming this place from«The Chowder Bowl» to «The Chowder Blows.» Let’s start with the positive. The place looks great. Super laid back, casual, and eclectic outdoor covered eating area. I went for the classic New England trifecta of white clam chowder, stuffie, and clamcakes. All three were horrific. The chowder was more of a gray color and tasted like watery Thanksgiving gravy with chunks of uncooked potato and a few stray clams. No taste, really. A few shakes of pepper didn’t help. The stuffie was pretty gross. I’ve never had a soupie stuffie until today. Speaking of Thanksgiving, it tasted like wet stovetop. The clamcakes had the right consistency and texture… but oddly had NO flavor at all. I mean nothing. I have no idea how they accomplished that! To top it off, everything took WAY to long to reach the table. We were there for almost 2 hours. My bottle of Bass tasted right, though. Someone needs to seriously spend some time in Iggy’s kitchen down in Rhode Island… yikes.
