Grumpy’s Restaurant

I am very sad as I write this review. Grumpys used to be a favorite of mine. However recently, a man grabbed my side twice after buying me a drink. Naturally I was scared and asked the bartender to please cut him off. I never even asked for his removal. She began crying and becoming upset with ME for asking this in my best interest of safety. I then had a woman come up to me and ask what my deal was and that I should know I’m in a bar and if a guy buys me a drink then I am asking for it. Last time I checked, I had told him I had a boyfriend and he bought me it anyways without my knowledge. Either way, nothing gives him ANY right to touch me. No girl should ever feel as humiliated as I did that day. Multiple other customers backed me, however the whole staff backed Robin the bartender. It was the worst and most humiliating experience of my life. I have written to the owners with no reply. I just hope any other woman out there that sees this will use their best judgement and stay away from grumpys, because clearly no matter who you are they don’t care about your safety… Just how much money they’ll make at the end of the night.

If you are not a regular here or a friend of the waitstaff or the snob of a barmaid/​owner who works there, good luck to you because they will look at you and treat you as if you are an inconvenience to them. I have made the mistake of stopping here more than once and that is the first thing I notice each time. And if you don’t order their food (which is barely edible as bar food goes) you’ll be shunned as if you were wearing a badge that says you are a charter member of the Taliban. I had my change from my bar tab tossed in my direction last night after I spent 10 minutes trying to flag the B*#ch down just so I could pay. What a dump. But if you like a place that smells like Pine-​sol and enjoy bad food and a salad bar that is fingered through by the staff, and like being treated as though you’re less than welcome, then by all means knock yourself out. No wonder the place is dying out.

i’m new to the area and, needing an affordable restaurant with a large variety of food, a friend who grew up here recommended grumpy’s for a belated mother’s day lunch. i have to say, i’m very grateful for her recommendation.
service was pleasant and quick. the food was good and freshly prepared.
my mom and i both went for seafood: she got the baked stuffed shrimp, and i got the seafood stuffed haddock. she was happy with her shrimp, but i was over the moon about my seafood stuffing. the seasoning was excellent, and the seafood was plentiful (both in the stuffing, and the actual piece of haddock). we also both started with rhode island style clam chowder (clear broth). the chowder had huge flavor, though it could have been hotter.
my brother, visiting my st. louis (a landlocked state) opted for the fried clams and they were fried PERFECTLY. they were crisp without too much breading, and the tender seafood was juicy and delicious. my dad got the grumpy’s burger which he ate right up, and my significant other opted for the french dip. he said his sandwich was delicious, but the jus was a little salty. french fries had by the men appeared to be handcut, and were fried a nice deep, golden brown.
overall, we had a great experience, and lunch for 5 at under $ 90, which is pretty affordable in my book, considering three of us had seafood entrees (not lunch portions). being new to the area, we have a lot of places to try. but we will definitely come back to grumpy’s someday.

Good service and yummy food. I went a while ago so I don’t remember my visit perfectly and I only went once. I do remember the service wasn’t bad, the French onion soup and buffalo wings were really good. I believe the onion rings weren’t bad. I do want to try this place again.

I think the only good thing about Grumpy’s in the loyalty of their customers, and if your not paying extreme close attention, they will get seated before you when waiting for a table after they walked in 5 minutes after you did. (this actually happened, and we over heard them bragging about it). Out side of that it only got worst from there. The restaurant is very out dated, run down and dark. Almost too dark to see how dirty the place is. We sat a booth that had some Disney animatronic wall art that had at least a few years of dust and food stuck to it. Food wasn’t great, served us cold mozzarella sticks for an appetizer and burnt chicken parm. Wanted to complain but by the time the wait staff stopped socializing with their regulars and checked on us, we just wanted to get out of there. This is a place I think should be on Restaurant Impossible or Kitchen Nightmare just to save the poor folks who eat there regularly.

This place is a great little gem in Blackstone. I often take customers there for lunch meetings. The food is good and the pricing very reasonable. Doesn’t hurt the expense account to much. Service is very friendly and fast. Great salad bar too.

I don’t think I have ever had such a bad experience any where as I did tonight at Grumpys. The food was terrible. We got appetizers that were tastless, greasy definitely way below par for any restaurant. For dinner we got Lobster rolls, and the Lobster was bad it had a very strong fish smell and taste. I never complain, but I did and the waitress had someone come over who was snotty. The drinks were mostly all uce and no alcohol. Save your time and money and go someplace else!

First time at Grumpys was nothing short of amazing. I was a little skeptical walking into the restaurant, but the food was INCREDIBLE. The buffalo chicken dip was so delicious and the sandwiches were very filling. Cheap too! I’ll definitely be back!

Eh… not bad, but not great.

It’s been a while since eating here. I was told there is a new chef.
My wife and stopped in on a Saturday afternoon.
We started off with an appetizer of seafood cakes. They were excellent as there were chunks of lobster throughout.
My wife had a salad and I opted for the Clear Chowder, which I enjoyed. I had the sirloin tips/​shrimp with a BBQ sauce. It was served with a baked potato and a zucchini/​squash mix. I was very happy with my choice, especially the shrimp.
My wife was happy with her choice of ribs.
The service was very good. It was not busy at that time of day. Which is good. Especially because of the minimal parking available.
We are satisfied enough that we will be back.

I hadn’t been to Grumpy’s in almost ten years. it looks exactly the same which really warmed the nostalgic cockles of my heart. they have a huge/​affordable menu and the staff are prompt and super friendly. on the weekends they also have live music or a dj at the front of the restaurant. my boyfriend lives less then ten minutes away from the restaurant and he said it reminded him of the bar from the show cheers so is suspect will be back very soon.

Went for dinner and drinks at the bar on a snowy night. It’s your typical mom & pop local bar with a decent menu, decent sized seating area, prompt & friendly service. Mushroom cheeseburger was pretty average, greasy fries and onion rings hit the spot. Nothing to brag to friends about but a decent local option for a jeans and sweatshirt sit at the bar kinda night.

Great staff! Very friendly. Especially marissa and robin. Always have a good time when I go here. Lots of regulars that keep the bar scene interesting. Garlic ranch sauce on the wings is the best around!

Nice. smaller place but we never have to wait. Food is good, and the price is just right. Will continue to come here!

I got a Groupon for this restaurant and was kind of weary after seeing the mixed reviews but my crew of 6 had a great time and enjoyed our meals! I had the prime rib and it was pretty darn good! We started with the nachos with chili and loved them! The chili was chunky and full of flavor. Two of my friends got quesadillas and were happy. Overall, we enjoyed our time! Service was just fine as well!

Great pub that serves a really good dinner too!
Visited here last night with my boyfriend. Greeted and sat promptly by a friendly waitress and we were served drinks rather quickly.
We both started with the salad bar which was small, but stocked with fresh ingredients.
I wasn’t too hungry so I decide to try their French Onion soup which was loaded with onions and had some ooey gooey cheese on top. mmm!
My boyfriend had a $ 10 entrée (maybe a special on Mondays?) which was the BBQ chicken tips. He requested pasta instead of rice which was no problem for the server/​chef and he enjoyed his meal as well… I had a bite of his and it was very flavorful!
Drinks good, food good and service good too. I will be back!

This place was cool! I don’t live nearby or anything, but I was in the neighborhood for a play and I went here afterwards with the cast. The service was good, the drinks were big, and it was clean and nice inside. Would go back if I was in the neighborhood again.

I was quite surprised to see all of the negative reviews for Grumpy’s! My fiancé and go here quite often with our friends as they host Trivia nights here on Wednesdays. We weren’t expecting much but we thought we’d give it a go.
We been about 4 – 5 times now and have never had a bad experience. We’re always seated promptly by a friendly waitress, and our food always arrives on time. I usually order a particular burger with mushrooms and thousand island dressing and it’s always outstanding. I’ve also ordered a few of their appetizers here and there and they’ve also been delicious.
It’s a very casual, a little dive-​y and more of your typical hometown pub than a 5-​star restaurant. However, if you’re like me and my fiancé and you like unpretentious pub food, this is a great spot to grab a bite. The prices are reasonable, the food is good and the service is friendly. Can’t ask for more than that!

I am giving this 2 stars instead of 1 because I think their drinks have a redeeming quality. This is definitely a place where you could go with friends at night and hang out at the bar, having a good time.
I would never recommend this place for any meals. The décor is dingy and dirty. The salad bar is disgusting. And the food was so awful. My boyfriend and I could not finish our meals. It tasted like a frozen lean cuisine. Do not go here for dinner!
