I had heard all about The Nightlight from my over 21 year old friends and always wanted to go and then it closed. However, the year I turned 21, I returned back to school only to find that it had reopened. I love The Nightlight! And then it closed again the following summer. I love you, Nightlight, some of my greatest 21 year old memories were made here. Rock on.

Used to love this place! Now it’s closed! :-( This used to be THE place to go, especially Thursday nights. Almost brings me to tears writing this. Jk, but it is very depressing that it shut down AGAIN!

First, and probably finest, the Nightlight is among the newest of Bellingham’s live music venues. The Nightlight was built just a few years ago, and incorporates modern equipment and acoustical engineering with beautiful woodwork and innovative local art. Laid out into several rooms, the Nightlight features pool tables, a VIP area, and two bars, with the stage at the center. Priding itself on hosting the biggest names in town, the Nightlight presents commercially successful talent, as well as the best of the local up-and-comers. It’s basement location gives it a hip, big-city feel that really sets it apart.

Let me start by saying that the owner of this bar is «top-notch». The few times that I have been here, I have been treated with respect and service was excellent. Great atmosphere too! I’m not looking for free drinks however, if I forget to bring cash, it may come down to that, lol!

If you haven’t belted out«Livin’ on a Prayer» on a Thursday(80s night) at the Nightlight, you just haven’t experienced nightlife in the Bham to its fullest. Generally, a good crowd Tuesday(90s night) and Thursday(80s night), the $ 2 cover is worth it. However, the bar is CASH only and drink specials aren’t great(check out the Up and Up for $ 3 pitchers first!).

This used to be one of my favorite places when I was a WWU student. It has a low-key exterior with funny little nooks & crannies inside. An eclectic variety of shows is usually featured and the stage is low, giving concerts an intimate feel. WWU art students also have their art displayed here sometimes. I was disappointed to hear it had closed, and thrilled to hear it was recently reopened. Visiting some friends, we heard a friend’s band were playing here and headed out to get down. When we arrived there was some usual shadiness at the door where the posted price of the show($ 5) had jumped to $ 8. But after chatting with the bouncer, this was lowered to $ 4. Not unusual, but I hate these flexible fees. By the time our friends took the stage, my crowd was a wee bit drunk. But we are all big boys and girls and slowed the drinking to a crawl and began the dancing. Throughout the night, myself and my other friend are unceremoniously escorted out. For what– we still have no idea. Drunk we were, but rowdy, spilling drinks, bugging other patrons we were not. Maybe it is just the difference between a college town bar and one in «the big city», but in the future they might want to wait for the customers to be a problem before throwing them out.
