Worst night sleep ever… bed was very uncomfortable and sheets scratchy. Shower/tub didn’t drain. There was a wrapper on the bed spread but the sheets were clean. No coffee maker in the room and coffee downstairs was kinda old. Nice desk in the room big enough for my husband and I to set up our laptops.

I did not get the opportunity to actually stay here. I had booked the hotel for one night as we are passing through on a two week east coast trip. I called to ask if I could prepay for our stay and spoke to Paris who was very rude. I’m pretty sure she was doing something other than working, and I interrupted that. When I asked to pay for my room, she told me no. I repeated back to her, «I can’t prepay for my room?» then she asked me how was I paying. I said with a credit card. She asked me who’s card. I said my own. Then she asked for my reservation information and pulled it up. Then she asked me why I wanted to prepay, which I thought was really none of her business, but I explained I like to have everything paid for when we vacation, so I only have to worry about food and entertainment expenses. Then again, she said no, you can’t prepay. I asked for her manager, and she told me she was the manager. I asked for her boss and she refused to give me a name. I told her that I had called to pay for my night, and because she was so rude, I no longer would stay there and to cancel my reservation. She told me I had to do it through Expedia and as I asked for her boss again, she hung up o me. I called back and told her if I didn’t get her boss’s name I would be calling the corporate office. She said to call them and again hung up on me. I immediately canceled my reservation through Expedia, typed a letter of complaint, and emailed it to Red Roof Inn’s corporate office. Sadly, because of only my phone experience, I would never stay here. Paris needs training in customer service, or a different job altogether.

We choose this place as our last resource(it had one bad review) since every single hotel was booked at 1:00AM. We were so lucky; one cancelation was made just before we got there. Of course, we got the room(the handicap room). We were very skeptical, but we didn’t have another choice. The price was $ 50 cheaper than the hotel at the end of the road. The guy at the front desk was super nice. The entire place was clean and quiet. They offered cereal and fresh coffee in the morning.

I don’t look for much when I’m staying on the road for work; but I decided on the Red Roof Inn because of its price, its proximity to my job site, and the fact that it is a recently renovated, former Motel 6. Oh, and free WiFi — that wasn’t accessible after my third night. I brought it up to the front desk staff, who told me to use the open networks from xfinity, Time Warner Cable, or Optimum. Inconvenient, but I can live without WiFi. I don’t enjoy listening to guests walk around in rooms above, though, or rocking beds from the room next door. I realize this might happen at more than few hotels; but snoring? My neighbor’s vibrating phone on the bedside table? Oy. Lastly, I checked out on a Friday morning — realizing 10 minutes after I drove away that I had left a pair of somewhat muddy Carhartt work pants folded on the floor in the room. I called immediately, asking if they could be put aside until I came by again in the afternoon before hitting the Jersey turnpike. «Not a problem, we can do that for you, sir.» It became a problem when the staff that evening had no idea I had called. I left them my name, number, and the room I stayed in. No calls over the weekend, but that’s understandable — maybe a different staff than weekdays. I called Monday morning, and the same woman I spoke to on Friday said that she had already asked the cleaning staff if they had found anything. They told her they hadn’t. Whether or not the cleaning staff is to blame — thanks for the courtesy call. Somebody’s walking around with a nice pair of Carhartt lined work pants. Just make sure you wash them first. They get an extra star for clean rooms… but the bathroom still smelled like that’s the place to be to beat the no smoking policy. Is there a 1.5-star option?
