Back in late 2011, I discovered Argentine Tango and soon became addicted. I took lots of classes from lots of different teachers in the first six months of 2012. I was having a pretty good time. One day, I found a class on the internet taught by Gabriela Condrea, and off I went. What I found completely changed the way I was dancing tango. Unlike almost any other teacher, she does not teach a bunch of steps. What she teaches is instead focussed on what each dancer is giving to his or her partner(the«connection») and how to make that better. Every thing is very low keyed and slow and quiet. There are a lot of really interesting and thoughtful exercises, such as moving around together with a balloon between your bodies(just one example). The amazing thing, I think, is that these slow gentle exercises pay off in a huge way on the dance floor. Instead of pushing and pulling a partner around, or waiting to be be pushed and pulled, instead everything becomes much gentler and subtler. That was two years ago. i took a dozen or so classes from Gabriela(and still with lots of other teachers) and when I look back, I think it is clear the the best things about the way I dance today(not an expert, but I get a few compliments now and then) is what I learned from her and her Connection technique.
