Perfect pit stop along 71, especially for kids or dogs. They have a huge grassy area as well as a little train/playground thing. Lots of outdoor seating. I had the Reuben with fries and it was great!

Mushroom Swiss Burger was good! The Chicken Salad Sandwich was good! Huge amount of fries! It was cool eating inside of a train car! Would have given 5 stars if they did not charge $ 1.00 for water! No refills on water offered, just charged to hand you a bottle of water!

Been wanting to stop here for years, should have waited to bring the fam so that I could have been distracted by loving family. I’ve been dying for a coney dog and fries for months. Saw it on the menu and HAD to have it.(The regular portion, not the mega.) Waited ½ an hour for my coney dog and fries only to find out the coney dog sauce is sloppy joe meat. Sloppy joe meat is NOT coney sauce, he must also have sloppy joes on the menu and isn’t actually trying. Fries were shriveled and brown, not crispy and golden. Maybe people like these fries, I think maybe they’re called ‘fair fries’. There weren’t a lot of them like everyone else is saying, but that’s ok because they weren’t any good and I didn’t finish them. I might come back again just so the family can experience the train restaurant, but I won’t come back on my own. I agree with the other review who stated that he makes rude comments when you pay by credit/debit card. Their review was 3 years ago and he’s still doing that. Give it up already, people are paying for your food, not your financial commentary.

Amazing! Where to start? Greeted warmly by the owner, varied menu, hand pattied burger with thick crispy bacon and perfectly melted cheese. Could make a meal out of the generous serving of fresh cut fries with malt vinegar. The owner came by a couple more times to make sure that our meal was great and asked if we needed anything else. Fantastic homemade desserts. As soon as the weather warms this will be our preferred weekend motorcycle destination!

My 3 year old loves trains. LOVES trains. So, having the opportunity to have lunch on a train was a perfect activity for a Father /Son bonding day. Very cool decorations on the way into the parking lot, including another train car behind the main building. Upon entering, I placed my order. The gentleman at the front,(who is the owner, I’ve learned), gave me great recommendations on the food. He informed me that the mac and cheese is not the boxed stuff, but rather the real deal. I knew that this was going to be a really good choice. The mac and cheese was as promised. Homestyle with real cheese. My kid loved it. I also got a burger, which was very big and very delicious. It was paired with a huge mound of fresh cut fries. Don’t expect health food if you visit Buckeye Diner Express. Sure, there are healthier options on the menu. But the stick to your ribs comfort food is exceptional here.(And, reasonably priced.) Can’t wait for the next visit.

Ate at the Buckeye Express Diner this afternoon and was very pleased with the experience. I ordered the Mega Dog and the wife a standard dog. Both meals came with home cut fries. We also got an order of the jalepeno poppers. The Mega Dog is very large and also very tasty. The fries were very good and they gave me more then I could eat. Here’s how I rate my experience at the Buckeye Express Diner. The food was very good and I rate it a 5. The facility is very unique and I rate it a 5. The help was very friendly and helpful and I give them a 5. The overall value of our experience gets a 5. Will we go back to the Buckeye Express Diner? Darn right we will when we make another road trip to the Belleville area. I want to try one of their Mushroom/Swiss Burgers!

Solid 4 stars!!! This place is cool. My son loves trains so he loved eating in an old dining car. Driving up the hill to park there is a sign that reads«Michigan fans must park across the street.» I liked this place already. The entire place was Scarlet and Gray. You order @ the counter when you walk in. Then they bring your food to you after you pick a table. Pepsi products are served here and are self serve with unlimited refills. I got the bacon cheeseburger, my wife got the patty melt, and our son got the mini-burgers. All come with great fresh cut fries.(You can substitute mac’n cheese for no up charge) They serve you more fries than you can eat. The burgers were great! Big juicy burgers on a bakery style bun. Mmmmmmm. Oh yes, the bacon on my burger was good and thick, not like the skimpy pieces other places give you. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Right away they asked us if this was our first time here as we entered. We told them yes and they explained how everything goes there. They were also knowledgable about everything on the menu. Oh, I’ll be returning!!!

First time I’ve ever been to a diner that refused to serve water — she said they didnt have it. I mentioned that I will get it out of the car. Her response was they dont allow outside food or drink… the older woman at the front doesn’t seem to realize she’s in the service business. Also, she wouldn’t allow my wife to sit down — with our newborn — without ordering first. I should note that it was virtually empty at the time. I feel bad for the other people working their tail off at the resturant… the older woman really sets an unpleasant tone for the whole visit. She may be the matriarch or just working a night job — either way, it might be time for the restaurant to reconsider her position. Her attitude eclipsed the rest of the visit for me…

This is a fun place and a must stop for my daughter when we are on road trips up north. She really loves the theme of eating on actual trains. You order when you arrive at the front door. You sometimes feel a little rushed if others are waiting, but if it’s a slow time you are good. Last visit we all ordered burgers. I went with the pizza burger. A HUGE(what seemed to be handformed) patty, several slices of pepperoni and mozzarella. And a nice helping of pizza sauce. If that’s not enough you get enough fresh cut fries that could feed 3 people. The food was very delicious and pleasing. The prices might be a few dollars high… but when you see how big you servings are you don’t even think about it. Give them a shot.

My family loves this place. It is always a stop when we travel down through Ohio. It has such a great feel with all the Ohio State stuff and train stuff.

Nice diversion in the middle of Ohio. Food was pretty good — the mushroom Swiss burger especially so. The fries are great and the mega dog was redonk! We saw a one pound burger go by and folks — they ain’t messin’!!

Food is hot and fresh HOWEVER this is not a healthy option. Mega dog is really good, chili is a little on the sweet side. The burgers are good and juicy. Fries are the made from fresh potatoes cut so they will not be super crunchy for people looking for«fast food style» fries, this place won’t have them. Service is friendly and fast.

This is a good family road trip stopping location. The food quality is high and ingredients are fresh. The menu is still basic American fare with burgers and fries options. Lots of excitement and play area for kids.

The food is okay but the view is spectacular! We had a great experience as we were passing through. The food isn’t anything great but the burgers are pretty good!

Very unique spot right off of the interstate. You can’t miss it, the place is in several reclaimed train cars. Very cool on that front. That being said, the place is smaller and a bit cramped, but not uncomfortable. It has a bit of an odd setup in that you order right off the bat, then sit down, and they bring your food out. Not bad except I hate that sense of being rushed and then bad food decisions ensue. So in my panic, I ordered the bacon cheeseburger with fries. I’m a health nut and to be frank there weren’t really any good options and figured hey, go bad or go home. I’m at a greasy spoon diner for Petes sake, I can muster the guts to eat a greasy patty of cow. Said burger was in fact a giant grease bomb, thus delicious, but the fries were terrible. Grease logged, soggy, flaccid pieces of nasty. Would not recommend the fries. The menu is limited, thus if you are looking for a small grease/fried menu a la a dairy bar, sports park, or fast food, you’ll be happy. The theme is quite cool, so kudos for the history lessons while I eat. It was summer so they had air conditioners running, and along with the old train cars, you got a definite waft of mildew, which wasn’t the best. Overall, cool experience but the food is average.

Forget what you were thinking of ordering. The hotdog here is a best bet. Mega dog with coney sauce. Huge, tasty and satisfying. High quality. The coney sauce is the best I have ever had. The fries are very good, but too many. Can you get too many fries? Here you will. Great place and I will come back.

You know that guy you went to high school with but didn’t stay in touch with because he never moved out of his mom’s basement? The one who suddenly got a good job and rented a really cool place, like a converted train and wants everyone to come over and see how wonderful it is. So you’re curious and stop over and are having a good time because everyone there is nice and there’s all this cool OSU stuff and a great view. Then suddenly he realizes that he’s got to feed you and goes into the kitchen and swears he can make anything you like. Turns out he can only make sandwiches and he’s never learned how to actually make sandwiches. The burgers don’t have any taste and the chicken salad is 75% mayonnaise and you’re too embarrassed to say anything because he tried really hard. And now you’ve got to eat a sandwich that is over-stuffed, looks great on the plate and tastes crappy. This place is like that. I keep coming in when driving this section of road. It’s such a cool diner, the setting is great. I love the train. The staff is wonderful. But who the hell is preparing the food?

This is those must see road side attractions. I have driven 71 to and from Cleveland more times then I can count and finally had a chance to stop at the intriguing train restaurant on the top of a hill off exit 165. This place looks like OSU thew up inside, Ohio State everything covering the whole interior of the train. They even have a sign that read Michigan fans must park across the street. I should have guess that from the name Buckeye Express. I don’t mind Ohio State, just gets annoying when it is rubbed in your face constantly. Service was as sweet as the delicious homemade cheesecake. You first order when entering the restaurant, then pick your seat on the converted train. Food is then brought to you. I had a chicken salad sandwich with a side of Mac and cheese. Portions are huge for the price and You can substitute for the hand cut fries for no extra charge. Food is typical Diner fare. I do not recommended the Mac and Cheese it was a weird fake cheese color and did not taste homemade. Best thing on the menu is the Cheesecake, Very smooth, creamy and definitely homemade.
