Went here for breakfast with family because it was conveniently located across the street from our hotel. I did come with a large group of about 14 people, so maybe the staff got overwhelmed, but I find that a poor excuse for a restaurant business. Pros: –I got the eggs with a side of grits and sausage with toast on the side and it all turned out pretty okay. –conveniently located across the street from hotel. –our main waitress was very pleasant. Cons: –the wait staff and floor manager had some serious attitude problems. My family was nothing but polite and we either got completely ignored when requesting something or a lot of attitude in a short response. –the service was very slow. –one of my family member had ordered 2 coffees(1 for him, 1 for his wife) and was brought 1 hot cocoa. When he nicely told the server he asked for 2 coffees she told him no, you asked for 1 hot cocoa and then walked away never returning with the 2 coffees. He had to ask another staff member to bring 2 coffees. –they forgot an order for one of my family members and brought it out 10 minutes after everyone already had they’re food. Will never go back and do not recommend.

Stopped in twice this weekend(not many choices in the area). First breakfast was good, fresh, and the place was quiet. Next day went in at 11 and couldn’t get breakfast, so ordered off the lunch menu. This is where things went downhill. The Reuben was not good, a small amt of meat and a LOT of sauerkraut. Fries were great though. Quiche was gross. Way too much cheese and a soggy crust. Keep looking…

A real diner in a shopping mall. I got a club sandwich — not the best I ever had, but not bad at all.(and can someone tell me when cheese was introduced tot the club sandwich?, I don’t agree!!) My man went with the Pasta primavera… he like it… but a weird choice for a dinner. If I had more time to research it — I would have gone old school with an open face turkey sandwich or the meatloaf platter. It was filled with the blue-haired(& oxygen tank) crowd… butwas a great place to grab a quick bite and catch up with old friends.

Love the local family feel. Good food. Service was good. Had the spring kale salad and Char-chicken sandwich both of which i split. I also get the Calverton frequently which is also good. Just the atmosphere I would expect for a small family owned restaurant.

A great place for breakfast! Super food, great service in a warm, friendly atmosphere! Our breakfast platters were made exactly the way we wanted them, with no questions about substitutions. We will be back soon!

Either get the Ruben or French Dip as they are the best. Typical Diner food. Mostly older/seniors visit. However it is not a bad quick meal that tastes good. Service is ok not spectacular but ok.

This place is quaint and has a homey feel. Their food is run of the mill diner food and in the evening you can get drinks for a good price. PROS Great for people who like diner food and breakfasts Good bar atmosphere Prices are decent CONS Portions are small Do not expect quality or authentic ingredients in anything other than finger foods Waitstaff has a «whatever» attitude

No frills but the food is pretty good and the drinks are definitely worth the price. Always an interesting atmosphere. Great local bar.

I don’t know who these people are giving this place good reviews. The food is horrendous, like cafeteria food, but worse. I ordered chicken Parmesan. The sauce looked an tasted like canned stewed tomatoes. No garlic, oregeno, basil, or anything else slightly Italian. The chicken was clearly frozen, pre made chicken. Yuck. My son had fish and chips, fish clearly, pre made frozen crap. Now all of this might be tolerable, but their price points as higher than the quality warrants. I did notice a significant amount of elderly guests, perhaps they like bland, tasteless food. The only positive thing was the staff. They did a fine job.

We have been here a few times for brunch. I can’t speak on the lunch/dinner food. Each time the food has been very good. The brunch menu is on the small side, but I have enjoyed everything so far. Service is OK. Good brunch spot.

My family used to frequent TJ’s relatively often as I was growing up, so I will always have a soft spot for the Calverton institution. It is a simple, family owned establishment that has very solid, good quality food. The owners are good people, who do a lot in the area. I went back to the area a few years ago on leave from the Navy and ate at TJ’s twice in a week for old times sake. The french onion soup was still as good as I remember, which has solidified itself in my personal top 10. The ribs were still good, better than they should be for not being a BBQ place. The service has kind of taken a dive, which was a shame, as the waitresses on both occasions seemed a little upset that I was even there, as if I was a bother. That said, I will be sure to stop in on my next trip through the area.

This place is quaint. Good for the 65+ crowd, but my children loved it, too. They have a kids menu and crayons for the kids. Nice options for their meals. Huge menu. Food is OK. Not the best but definitely decent enough. Their desserts are fabulous, however.

Hey this is a local mom and pop place that has survived in a not so great area. The main reason I give this place four stars is the owner is very active in the Community and supports many local fund raisers. And how many places can you have meatloaf and play Maryland Keno at the same time !! No the food is not high end, but it’s basic diner food at a reasonable price. And I always try to support local own businesses like this vs the big chains. These owners really try to be part of the Community.

Very good meatloaf. Took my mom here, very friendly staff. The atmosphere felt like I walked into my grandparents kitchen, very cozy.

Somewhere to take my mom if she’s in town. The pot roast was so tender and good I can just cut it with my fork. My mom had the liver and onions and loved it. Trust me when I say she is very hard to please!!!

Came here on a weeknight. Not too busy. The place def needs a make over — It’s like stuck in the 70s/80s. The food is decent, nothing special. We ordered turkey chili and a spinach salad to off set the pizza :) We also saved room for cheesecake. It’s reasonably priced. The service is probably the best thing about TJ’s. Ample parking. I give this place 3 stars for the food and 5 stars for the service. Thus, the 4 stars.

TJ’s is an alright place to eat at on a whim, but I generally don’t plan on going there at any point. It has the benefit of being right across the street from where I live, so we’ve been there three times. However, so far I have never met anyone named TJ and secondly if this person exists, they must be a retirement age since most of their customers surely are. In fact, the restaurant reminds me a lot of Denny’s, but with a giant dose of old white people. That said, the food is alright and is nothing to ‘write home about’. In fact, it seems kinda cheap tasting like it’s somehow not real. Additionally the portion sizes even during the supper hours are small and unassuming. Over all, a minor disappointment(also, who the hell puts bell peppers in chicken alfredo?!)

Awesome Breakfast. Best I have found in the area. Truly 5 stars. Staff and ownership are always present. Close to 95 and close to many local business, skip the chains and try TJ’s you won’t regret it.

You’ll feel like you stepped into a time machine when you visit this place. My man and I went for breakfast over the weekend and it was totally ‘80s but very cute and quaint for some strange reason. It reminded me of a breakfast place that my parents would’ve taken me as a kid(as I grew up in the ‘80s). Our server(Katie?) was very nice and gave us the perfect amount of attentiveness. We were definitely the youngest people in there, but that’s part of its charm. The food was okay – nothing special – but the service and bad ‘80s décor made the experience totally worth it. Seems like a good family restaurant.
