I thought I would give Jake’s a try for dinner. My wife and I(60+) tried the POTROAST. We ordered an extra salad. Here’s my rating on each portion: 1) the lettuce was wilted. The cucumbers looked like they were cut 3 days ago. 2) The pot roast had been cooked to the point where I called it a pile of mush. There was meat in there, but nothing to cut. 3) The side of vegetables were from frozen goods. Tasted exactly like my Mom’s frozen Birds Eye vegetables. 4) The mashed potatoes were OK. Covered with brown gravy. I could not eat at Jake’s again. I’m sorry that they were so bad. I have lived in Bend for 9 years. Take my word for it.

What a disappointment! My wife was craving chicken fried steak and Jake’s used to have the best. We had not been here in quite a while, so we decided it was time to come back. The first thing we noticed was that prices had gone up… a lot. My wife’s chicken fried steak was more chicken fried stuff than steak. I ordered the Top Sirloin dinner special. Ordered steak medium rare, it was overcooked to the point it was dry on the edges and even the center showed no signs of pink. The veggies(carrots and peas) were over cooked, mushy and COLD! The garlic bread was very thin whereas they used to serve garlic bread that was 1″ thick or thicker. The best part of the meal was my baked potato, but then again it’s pretty hard to mess up a baked potato. The staff were wearing different T-shirts(not even Jake’s shirts), one of them had his pants sagging so low his underwear butt was showing(just what I want to see while eating!). To sum it up, this is certainly NOT the Jake’s it used to be, bye, bye Jake’s sad to say we won’t be coming back.

Bring your appetite! The food is good and the portions are big. The owner does wears khakis but his name is not Jake. The service is top notch. Black and bleu salad filled the whole plate. The steak and bacon mac ‘n cheese lunch special filled the platter it was served on. The coconut cream pie was loaded with coconut. Can’t go wrong and won’t go away hungry. Thank you for the meal and memories.

If you love breakfast where many of their dishes come in giant helpings, come here! Just beware that this diner can get slammed during the weekends, so you may have to wait to get seated and for food. It’s a super casual restaurant, and it can get loud, but who cares when you’re chowing down? We got the bunkhouse and the kielbasa and eggs with coffee, which were excellent. Our waitress was so cute and welcoming, calling us «honey» and making sure we had enough coffee while we waited for our food. What I really loved from this particular visit was that our waitress made me a to-go cup of coffee! And not from the coffee cup I was drinking out of. Very thoughtful and sweet.

Use to love this place but the last two times we’ve been there the service and food have been below average.

If you are looking for excellently executed high quality breakfasts, this is not the place. This is like home cooked diner breakfasts. I contemplated rating as a 3 but decided the homemade berry stuffed French toast was a 5 so bumped the rating up and the device was great. I stopped right at opening 6am for take out. I had coffee while I waited. The server refilled my cup several times despite being the only one there and tables filling up pretty fast. The décor is very diner. Not fancy at all but felt comfortable. Appeared many people there were regulars. I like that feeling:) very homey. The biscuits and gravy were just ok. The biscuit was fluffy but the gravy was a little bland. It did have a decent amount of sausage. This plate also came with scrambled eggs and bacon for about $ 11. It was huge. The breakfast quesadilla was huge also. It was actually like it was stuffed too full with salsa, cheese, eggs, sausage and bacon! The hash browns were cooked perfectly!!! The shredded Browns cooked nice and crispy without being raw in the center. Yum. Once again, the berry stuffed French toast was the favorite. Also when I paid, the server asked if I wanted a to go cup of coffee! This is truly like a locals place that is almost hidden behind a store!

The food was very, very good and all the staff except one were very friendly and helpful. Only a four star due to our main waitress being incredibly unfriendly. So much so that we asked if the tips were pooled, which they were not, so we did not leave her a tip. The rest of the experience was outstanding, be sure to bring your appetite! Talk about portions.

Atmosphere: The feel is that of a diner with photos lining the wall with antique cars and happy faces. The restaurant is aged and fixtures dated to the 2000’s interior theming. Water glasses are Pepsi plastic cups and overused(scratched, cracked, and dirty). Silverware is cheaper than Denny’s or Sherie’s silverware. This place is in need of reinvestment and some love! The lack of upkeep destroys the charm! It’s a shame… :-/ Front Of House: We arrived as a group of 10 on Valentine’s Day. We knew we would have to wait. Thus front of house said 25 minutes. We waited outside patiently. After 15 minutes one of us suggested to the front of house that we would gladly split our table into two tables of 5. She acknowledged the request. After this things sucked. More than 8 tables were filled with 4 – 6 people groups and we were visually at the top of the list for the full 40 minute wait. 40 minutes passed before we got our table. This is unacceptable anywhere. Today is a busy day as a holiday and to help staff, the restaurant should have created a simplified menu. Food Review: The food was actually decent. The portion sizes are heaping. This is a place worth stopping but do it on a slow day.

Best hidden secret in Bend. We had friends visiting from out of state, they choose Jake’s. We love bringing out of state friends here. This restaurant is a great ambassador for Bend. We have never left here hungry, nor has any if our friends.

Such great food! I moved to Bend at the beginning of the year, and found this little dinner minutes away. We’ve ordered take-out twice and holy cow, the food is amazing. The serving size is huge and they aren’t about counting calories! The chicken and waffles with loaded grits is my new favorite thing in the world. Both times we have gone, the nicest little lady takes our order and you can tell they take pride in their food and customer service. Will be going there many more times; hopefully my waistline can handle it!

As everyone says HUGH portions. The food quality is about what you would expect, pretty down to earth, nothing fancy fare. They aren’t going to blow you away with the food but they won’t disappoint you either. They do a lot for the community.

Welcome to ‘murica! Do you need a Texas-sized plate of french toast? If so, then Jake’s is the place to be. Brunch is your average diner fare, we haven’t tried lunch or dinner. We had no complaints, but it also isn’t anything special, aside from the serving size.

Jake’s is my favorite truck stop. The service is friendly, the restaurant has been clean since their remodel and the food is exactly what you want from a truck stop. I crave the chicken fried steak and eggs on cold winter mornings and my kids ask for the pigs in a blanket regularly. It’s just one of those comfort food places that you need on your eating out list. The portions are large and they encourage sharing. Plus the biscuits and gravy are delish!

I have been coming here since I was a little kid. Every summer my family would go camping in Oregon and we would always have to make the stop at Jakes. We just visited back today for the first time in more than 5 years, and it is still just as great as I remember! Their portions are huge and the food is great.

Another amazing breakfast at Jakes Diner! Hubs and I split the large Farmers omelet made with 6 eggs and stuffed with ham and other goodies AND came with 2 gigantic pancakes. We ate ALOT and still had leftovers. Service is friendly and fast. They keep the coffee refills coming too. Highly recommend Jakes– certainly was worth the drive from our resort!

This was my first time here. Jake’s is as good as it gets for many reasons, service, wait, seating, décor and food. Simply the best. My California Omelette was great especially with a side of biscuits and gravy. I highly recommend this otherwise hole in the wall old school diner. Ample parking, large portions, nice service, comfortable environment, high quality ingredents.
