Heard about this place as one of the 18 places to eat in Oregon before you die. Boy we were not disappointed. Well worth the 20 minute wait.

As a breakfast snob and being in the industry, I always have a hard time finding a great place. I would recommend this place time and time again! The atmosphere is amazing, the food is great(homemade warm butter scones were my favorite) and the service was awesome! This place makes me want to move to Bend! I will be back!

Delicious food, great service. A bit of a wait time, but it was Sunday brunch… it was worth the wait.

This place met my high expectations easily. I made a reservation by emailing the place(such a great bonus if places allow reservation electronically!) and got a prompt and friendly response. I even amended the reservation last minute with absolutely no issues. I was a little nervous that it would be like most busy places and that the reservation wouldn’t be ready at the time we arranged. That was not the case; I walked in the restaurant and was immediately greeted by Pamela by name! Our table of 9 was all ready for us. The waiter was friendly and accommodating. The food was great and everyone was pleased. They even had little toys for the kids. I would most definitely come back and recommend this restaurant to others who want a great breakfast experience.

McKay’s is the best, but don’t tell anyone. Like all great restaurants in Bend, you have to wait at peak hours most of the time. Food is the best! Service is great, cozy cottage with history and charm. Owner is friendly and they change the menu often enough to keep you coming back.

I always have the cottage potatoes and it’s always delicious! I also love their jam with the toast they serve. You can’t be in a hurry if you’re going to eat here because it’s always crowded with people.

Super-busy even for a late brunch, and frankly I’m not sure what all the fuss is about. Seems like one of those places with the Unilocalback-loop. Three dudes review it as ‘OMGBESTESTTHINGEVER’ and next thing you know, you’ve got a 4.5 star rating for what’s frankly not so very fantastic.

When I am in Bend I have eaten here 3 different times and the food has been great! Not much parking and sometimes if you get there late there is a wait. Their pastry display looks delicious!

Friend who lives locally recommended this place. Soo good! Yummy, filling, fresh and tasty! I got the breakfast tacos with carnitas and fresh avacado and Bloody Mary. Def will be back when we are in bend. Popular spot so we had to wait a few — no worries though with free coffee and space heaters on porch.

honestly i really don’t understand the hype over this place… I felt like I was in an episode of portlandia the whole time. Small, crowded, 1 hour wait, & lukewarm chocolate milk. need I say more?

First time I’ve been here in a while. The wait was an hour, but they had heaters, coffee and pastry samples during the wait, so it wasn’t bad. My meal came with a scone, and I upgraded to a yummy marionberry scone which they brought the scone out right away. Despite being so busy, the food came very quickly. I was a bit disappointed, my food came lukewarm. But it was still good. I had a taste of the pumpkin pancakes which were delicious.

Went for breakfast today with a friend, my first time. I have read reviews and it seems everyone loves it. I was left with wanting more. I ordered the crepes with a side of bacon. The food came out extremely fast which was great. But my crepes were absolutely covered in whipped cream which made them soggy and had so many strawberries in them which made them even soggier. I just felt that they could have been better. I looked around at other patrons dishes and decided I should have ordered something a little more substantial as I was still left hungry. Will definitely try it again because their service was great and fast. Just felt the crepes didn’t do it for me.

Came here with my family and it was the best breakfast! Staff was warm and friendly. The egg sandwich was the bomb!

Definetly expect a wait on the weekend. Got here at 930 on a Saturday in December with 32 degree temperature and had to wait outside for a half hour. Luckily there are a few heaters overhead on the porch and free coffee and muffins cut up in bite size pieces. Croissant french toast was mmmmkay. Not anyrhing spectacular to be honest. Sounded awesome on the menu though. Chicken hash stack was pretty good. Definetly felt like I was eating a Mexican style breakfast. If I go back I would definetly get an eggs Benedict dish. But the potatoes were amazing and made my taste buds swelter. I tried to eat a few in my dish plain they were so good. I’d suggest getting here early unless you like waiting around all morning!

Haven’t been here in a while but as usual the food is always good the service always friendly despite the bustling about that seems to never let up for the servers. I can’t say that I have found my favorite dish as everything I’ve had has satisfied my hunger at the time.

I generally only take the time to write about excellent, favorite restaurants. This is definitely one of them. We went today for Sunday breakfast/lunch, four adults and three children aged 1 – 7. The place was packed, with a longish wait, but that didn’t stop the staff from being friendly, fun, courteous. They even had coffee and scones out for those in the queue. The four adults had four completely different meals: stuffed French toast, Mt. Bachelor scramble, chicken and goat cheese salad, and the daily special. All were totally superb and delicious. The three children received wonderful service, starting with crayons and other playthings to entertain them, hot chocolates, and great quesadillas. I don’t think anything could have been better. I can’t wait to be back in Bend.

I’ve heard rave after rave but I just wasn’t impressed. We had an incredible wait for a party of 3(we were told to expect a wait because it’s so popular) but they sat parties of 2 like crazy and it just seemed questionable that they didn’t have any open tables for a party of 3. We went on a weekday around 10/10:30am — not exactly a busy time. We picked our food while we waited and ordered immediately. Friendly server but the food wasn’t good or bad. I expected more. My daughter’s french toast didn’t even come with real maple syrup? Heinz instead of Portland Ketchup? Just seems to me that a place so well known and loved would be using higher quality ingredients.

I was introduced to this place over the weekend when visiting some friends in bend. We had to park a few blocks away and while walking to the place I was thinking this place had better be worth it… Well it was and some. We had to wait about a half hour to sit outside which again was worth the wait. That was the on, y time we waited. Once seated and you place your order the food comes right up… I had the pulled chicken, with corn tortillas and Hollandaise sauce. I felt bad leaving food on the plate but the portions are so ridiculous I couldn’t eat the whole thing(this time that is) I will be sure to have some extra room next time I go and I definitely will go back. I’m curious to see the lunch menu and give that a go. Hope it’s as good as breakfast was. One major tip, although they don’t take reservations, you can call ahead and asked to be put on the list if you are on your way. But make sure you are on your way because if they call your name and you are not there you go back to the bottom of the list…

BEST breakfast spot in town! Literally one of the best breakfasts I have ever eaten… no question. Coming from PDX, breakfast capitol of the NW, that’s saying something. Friendliest staff, tons of outdoor seating, excellent apricot peach mimosas, very short wait(Friday morning), I could go on and on… The house made butter scone is simply fabulous, comes with the meal. I had the Tumalo scramble with chicken sausage & smoked Gouda, she had the Cascade hash, both were amazing. Our server? Top notch. Very sweet and she dealt with our meal subs no problem, and gave some good hiking spot tips. The overall experience was just awesome, absolute best start to our morning. I will eat here every single time I come to Bend from now on

I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed McKay Cottage! It’s by far my absolute favorite eatery in Bend. My husband and I used to live in Bend and on special occasions would splurge on a very hearty McKay Cottage brunch. We’d order melon mimosa, marionberry scones, and a full breakfast. The food is amazing to say the least. When I was a meat eater, I frequently ordered the biscuits and gravy. They are so perfect! Now that I skip meat, I love their pancakes. My husband loves their omelettes. He’s yet to have one he doesn’t rave about. Now that I no longer live in Bend, any time I pass through or visit I make it a point to eat at McKay Cottage.
