Great location, warm atmosphere, amazing coffee… regardless of the season, Palate is the only coffee shop I recommend in town. They also make Friday beer runs easy for our office with their great selection of Oregon beer.

Hard not to give this place five stars. For us the location was terrific as it’s literally across the street from the small hotel /B&B where we were staying. They are meticulous to a fault with their coffee making, and the end result is good. I like the look of the place, and finally, they also have beer, including at the time a great stout that we put on a growler for later consumption. If you’re nearby, this is where you will want to go for your coffee needs. You can thank me later.

Really thought I knew all coffee has to offer! Grew up on campus at University California Berkeley I have been drinking coffee since I was about ten years old, also in San Francisco at café Trieste, a place where the«Café experience» at least in U.SA. Was a place where Beatnicks and Poets would hang out drinking their lattes and Americanos talking of Politics and and all worldly down to surfing and music ! I had a cup from Palate coffee the other day !!! Had my head spinning like I was at a Greatful Dead Concert! Mellow! Smooth not bitter, creamy without cream! This isn’t the Jacked up coffee places give you it’s really true artisan and done to the very best! Please forgive me if I don’t get their names right, I believe Jason and Kent helped me ! It’s a whole new world for me and that little bitter bean! Not so bitter anymore! Thanks again I think Stumptown is their source but these guys deliver! Bend WAKEUP to a cup From Palate!

Great Coffee! Great Staff! Great business neighborhood! I came to my dental appointment early and tried out Palate, the coffee shop next door. I’m glad I did. I will definitely be a returning customer!

Palate is a great coffee shop. It’s one of my favorite places to stop at. The espresso taste is consistent and the employees are always friendly. I enjoy the welcoming atmosphere and the small cabin-like interior. I wouldn’t suggest coming here when you’re in a rush. It can take a bit for your order to be completed. Overall the place is great. It’s a relaxing place to talk with friends over a cup of coffee.

Great service and attention to detail when they make their drinks. If you enjoy a good traditional espresso, this is the place to get it. I take all my friends there when they come to visit and they love it. We especially enjoy the homey and relaxed atmosphere. The owners love to educate people about the whole process of coffee, and are happy to answer questions.

I Love Palate as a great coffee bar, with lovely tea selections. Jodie and Jason are such enthusiastic, kind, and engaging owners and their character influences the welcome feeling of the place. They are passionate about coffee and work diligently to ensure the quality of each cup they serve. I enjoy going there to have my warm beverage and often a cup of delicious vegetarian soup while I work on homework. I can’t recommend this place enough!

Love love visiting Palate when I’m in Bend! Wonderful espresso and such a cool atmosphere! The big tables outside are so great when the weather is nice too! WiFi too, & yummy treats! Yesterday I stopped in, spilled my drink outside, and Leif was kind enough to take care of my second drink. Ryan was super friendly too! Love this place! 5 stars!

Great service, cool environment and an excellent Stumptown latte. It’s hard to choose a coffee shop in bend since there are so many great ones but this is becoming a regular spot for me… plus if you want a beer they have a couple taps and a solid bottle selection.

The best pulled shot of espresso in Bend, hands down. And, consistently so, which is crucial. Perfect vibe and aesthetic. The place a seasoned local goes, and the out of towner who knows good coffee and hopes they will find it in Bend. The owners are kind and engaging and always the ones behind the counter. Coming here daily is now even more about loyalty, even though we live a thousand miles away.

I went to Palate with my laptop to drink coffee and get some work done. The coffee is great(as Stumptown beans always are) and the environment was quiet and relaxing. The wifi is free and fast. Overall a great hidden little place to sip on a cup of joe.

There’s something indescribable about Palate. I think, all things considered, it just feels like home. There are a lot of places you can get a good cappuccino. There are a lot of places you can post up for hours reading, studying, journaling, talking. There are a lot of places you can get Stumptown Coffee. But Palate affords you all of these things and does it in an environment that makes you feel comfortable, not rushed — like it’s always a quiet Saturday at home in the living room. Only complaint: The pastry selection leaves a little to be desired. When going to Palate, give yourself some time to enjoy. You won’t want to rush out the door.

This place is one of the best coffee places in town! They are spot on with their espresso, chai, latte, and mocha! As others have mentioned, Bend has some good coffee places already and this place is definitely one of the top — if not the best! They use stumptown coffee out of Portland. They have a nice little seating area inside(and outside) as well! However, the inside area is a little small and not good for larger amount of people to sit. Overall, the quality of their drinks are perfect! I highly recommend this place to everyone! They also have beer on tap as well now, so you could start with some coffee and end with some good beer! Worth the stop!

Here we go. Bend out does itself again by adding, yes another GREAT Coffee shop. So Great, that it might become the Go To spot. Competition, look out, cause this place is doing«the bean» the justice it so rightfully deserves. Still have a lot of exploring to do within, but other than proper barista skills, the local/venue/ambience is a 10.

«Yes, I think so too», he said. «Palate has only been open two weeks and it is already my favorite coffee house in Bend.» That was the response of the guy waiting at the counter for his beverage with a friend who said«What a cool place.» My hubby and I were seated at a table nearby sipping a great mocha(12 oz = $ 4) and nibbling on a piece of Sparrow banana bread and we had could see why he was a fan. Us too. Noting our very favorite coffee house in the area is Tumalo Coffeehouse which is outside city limits, Palate may be our new inside city limits fav. As much as we’d like to keep this special place that is Palate our little secret, we know it is good for the business and customers both to share. Here goes. UNIQUELOCATION Palate is in the old house that was once home to Maragas Winery’s tasting room and Taverna. At the cusp between Bend’s Old Mill District and downtown on the corner of Bond Street and Colorado, this is a great location, even if parking is a bit tough to come by. BEVERAGESANDNOSH The format, for now at least, is coffee beverages, steamer cocoa, tea and juices.(I hear they also serve beer and wine but I forgot to check.) Eats are Sparrow bakery goodies including things like croissant, banana bread, ocean rolls and sea salt bagels. Coffee used is Portland’s excellent Stumptown. Prices are competitive with other Bend coffee houses. The owner /operators, Jason and Jodi, came to Bend from Portland where they worked for Stumptown. So they know good coffee and coffee beverages. Very nice. They may want to add some other eats things over time, but they’ll figure out what it is their market wants.(My hint: Sparrow or Village Baker baguette with great butter and local jam and the ginger bar cookies from Baked. :-).) INVITINGAMBIANCE Jason and Jodi made the old house that now houses Palate, which was a few years ago updated by the Maragas’ winery folks when they owned it, even better. They removed the rickity upstairs loft opening up the horizontal space to expose some of the original rafters at center and the once dark space is now flooded with light. They removed three or four layers of added flooring to expose the original hundred year old wood floors. They trimmed out the walls with corrugated metal and rough sawn siding which honors the old logging Mill location of the house. Cool ambiance is also extended through pitch perfect for format and sound level coffee house music mix and rustic tables with comfortable chairs, all at standard table height thank goodness… none of those high perch bar height tables and stools here, with ample room between them to allow a sense of comfortable space for conversation. Delightful. Level in through the door and throughout, standard height seating, his is an «all people are welcome here» place. One of my favorite things in the space was a very neat old amber glass light fixture hanging at mid room. I asked Jason where he sourced it from and he said a second hand store in Portland. I also asked if he or Jody were design professionals since the space seemed so perfectly«ahhhh…some» when one walked in and when dissecting the pieces you could see that was no accident. Turns out that Jason is also an artist. THIS N THAT: PARKING: Parking is a bear in this area but there is a little lot with a few parking spaces, including a van accessible parking space for those needing ADA compliant parking, behind Palate. More parking on street. Or park in the lot adjacent to Strictly Organic coffee and Gairdin down the street and walk up a block to Palate. HOURS: 6 a.m.-5 p.m., Mon.-Fri.; 7 a.m.-5 p.m., Sat.-Sun(I think.) OUTDOORSEATING: Come warmer weather the little paver patio in front will have outdoor seating.
