Moved to Benicia 5 years ago for the activities and places to eat and shop. Charlies Attic is the best of the shops of its kind in Benicia. Items are always changing. Always good quality. Pricing is very fair. John and his wife run and own the shop. It is named after their dog Charlie. He was in the Tannery building and moved to another place that is larger and has great lighting due to the large skylights. Totally enjoy shopping at Charlies.

I have been shopping at Charlie’s Attic for well over a year. They recently moved from the Tannery to a more Central location in downtown Benicia. Antiquing has been a favorite pastime for years and Charlie’s Attic is one of the best shops I have ever found. The owner and his wife are welcoming, knowledgeable, fair. They have a very large inventory, all in good condition, and new items all the time. This place is not, I repeat not, a glamorized Flea market. Stopping here is like going back in time, you are welcome to browse, ask questions, and visit with other shoppers. So, the merchandise is interesting, unique and very reasonably priced. Also, Benicia is a fun place to spend the day or weekend. So many delicious restaurants and comfortable bed and breakfasts.

I’ve both bought from, and sold through, John and Mava of Charlie’s Attic. Lovely people. In the process, they’ve become more friends than shop owners. The store has a nice mix of antique and vintage items, including: furniture; lamps, especially Tiffany style stained glass; mirrors; paintings; art glass; pottery; crystal; silver; music and sports memorabilia; jewelry; Asian art, cameras; some really cool oddities; records(John is encyclopedic about LPs); etc. I’m picky and careful when purchasing. I mostly buy for resale and have found some remarkable deals here. The items I’ve purchased for myself are treasures. Selling with them has quickly made me some nice profits. They take great care when selling consigned items from their Ebay store. Mava does a lot of research and is thorough with her description. Because of their stellar feedback rating and reputation selling and shipping high ticket items they get a higher price than I likely would. They support the community by participating in the Benicia Main Street events. Support them and other small businesses. Shop small. Shop local. (Psst, if you happen to stop by with your kids they may just get a treat.)

We purchased a mid-century modern dining and chair set hair at a fair price, and were treated very well. Nice guy, polite dog(Charlie), and even delivery thrown in at no extra cost. Nice selection that’s always changing. We’ll go back!

Charlie’s Attic is another nice antique store located in the restored Tannery Building. I rather look at vintage items in person rather than on EBay. I am more likely to buy something I didn’t know I wanted when I see in a store, than I am online. Tempting as some of the antiques were in when I wandered in here, I did not come home with anything. The treasures in this store are well displayed and it did not smell musty. I like old china. I wonder who all these pretty things belonged to before they ended up in an antique store. I know, I sold or gave away many things I wish I had now. So, I keep looking in antique stores in the hope of my back memories!

From a seller’s perspective, John is an ethical, fair, responsive, and astute business partner with excellent contacts and business practices. When eBay and craigslist failed me, he sold my antique handcarved coffee table on consignment(at a very acceptable price!) in less than 48 hours from when I dropped it off at his picturesque establishment. Highly recommended!

This was a fun surprise way down on 1st street. The last time I was in Benicia, I don’t remember the Tannery yet there, filled up with shoppes, the way it is now. After doing some additional reading, it seems the building went through a revival in 2012 and with that comes an interesting array of businesses. Charlie’s Attic is fortunately one of them. My boyfriend and I had a lot of fun browsing the various treasures of Charlie’s Attic. They had an interesting array of decanters, an old fashioned jukebox(is there such a thing as a new fashioned one?) vintage jewelry and everything else in between. They also had a giant bowl of Hershey’s miniatures when you walked in, because ya know, one needs energy for all the browsing you’ll wind up doing here. There were a few jewelry boxes we were interested in but hesitated on-the size wasn’t quite what we had in mind for a particular shelf. Most of the fun, though, was to see what was on offer. Great little store and I’d definitely pop back in again while in Benicia

My husband & I enjoyed some retail therapy at CHARLIE’S ATTIC today. The owner is such a friendly man and most accommodating. I recommend this local business … SHOPBENICIAFIRST!

Perhaps one of the most friendly shop owners on first street! Always a pleasure to drop by and see what kind of new treasures are in the store. They do consignment and ebay drop off here, so if you have some old things taking up space in your attic, bring them down!
