Many, many years ago, the summer after my junior year of high school, I left Long Island and spent July in Bennington attending the Bennington College July Program. That was my third time in Bennington — the other two just quick passes through on the way to visit my mom’s best friend, who has a horse farm in Sandgate. That third trip sealed the deal as far as my love for Bennington and also introduced me to Panache. Oddly, the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Panache is its distinct smell — which is indescribably delicious. They have a huge collection of women’s clothing — not the type of stuff I normally wear but every once in a while I would find a great skirt or sweater. The small junior’s department was always great. They also have a huge selection of jewelry and house items. You can do all of your gift shopping at Panache and know that the receivers of those beautifully wrapped items will be pleased. Probably the best thing about Panache is its consistency. After that July in the mid-nineties I went to college in Albany and worked for the July Program for three consecutive years. Panache was always a favorite spot to hit up a few times while there and during the school year(I went to college in Albany) I’d stop in a few times. They always had the perfect item for birthdays or a special night out. Even after moving Panache is still the ultimate shopping experience in downtown Bennington.
