Went to Bread Bar with a group and everyone pretty much said the same: food was good but not good enough to warrant such high prices. However, the desserts were excellent! I don’t feel the rush to go back, but I wouldn’t avoid the place either.

Have tried several menu items on several occasions and food has been very mediocre and sometimes downright bad. Service has always been good, though. I can definitely recommend the whitefish salad with maple vinegrette.

A must go when you’re in the area. My boyfriend and I were traveling and everyone we talked to in the area highly recommended this place. We went for lunch and each had a cup of soup which were great. I also had a salad and the boyfriend had a sandwich. We both loved our meals and wished we were in town for one more night to try their dinner. Next time I’m in the area I’ll have to check it out again.

Wow, did Bread+Bar ever surprise me. I came to benton harbor/St. Joseph to escape Chicago for the weekend, and happened to stop by here while driving around the city. The inside of the restaurant has a modern rustic feel, very clean and well laid out. The service was very good, but since we came at an off time we also happened to be the only ones there. The food was top notch… their pretzel knots is the best pretzel bread I’ve ever eaten. It was so good, that I ordered a second one after we finished our meal. The tartines and potato croquettes were very good, but not on the same level as the pretzel bread. This is now on my regular list of places to visit when I’m in Benton Harbor, and it should be on yours. Seriously, get the pretzel knots.

First time here in October and stunned by the food and vibe in this spot in Bentor Harbor. Excellent and knowledgeable staff, and a nice venue. Would recommend this for any occasion, we took our two young kids there and fit in just fine. Hidden gem and absolutely worth a trip.

This place was an absolute gem of a find! We were road tripping back towards Colorado from Bay City and needed a rest before Chicago. Unilocal reviews brought us to Bread+Bar and the reviews were dead on. Modernish décor with attention to details is the first impression on the inside. Cool art made out of cassette tapes for instance and Edison Bulbs in bathroom are just a few examples. We arrived before the 5 pm full menu was open. Tapas and drinks were available and let me tell you we were not disappointed. The meat and cheese plate and a selection of breads and toppings(cant remember what they were called) were surprisingly large and fed the two of us adequately. Not only that, they we’re brilliantly presented and the flavors extraordinary. Savory olives and sauces, high quality cheeses and salted meats along with perfectly smoked whitefish and homemade breads all packed into appetizers… outstanding! And the drinks were awesome as well. Go there!

Beautiful and modern atmosphere! Food was delicious, I had the lamb chops and my wife’s fish special was some of the best she has ever had. Hidden off the saint Joseph strip. Diamond in the rough.

This has been on our list to try for awhile and we finally had the chance to stop in for a drink and snacks on a Saturday afternoon. We arrived around 4:30 and we’re cheerfully greeted by the hostess. The place was pretty empty so we had our choice of seating. We opted for the patio. Inside and out, the place is welcoming and cozy. Happy hour runs from 3 – 5 with a $ 1 off drinks and a limited food menu. They have a nice selection of local beers on draft and I’ve heard the cocktails are great, but didn’t see a drink menu. I ordered a glass of chardonnay(Edna Valley for $ 8) and my husband opted for a beer. The complimentary bread basket included sliced pretzel sticks and a wheat sourdough. The place done by Bit of Swiss so you know the bread is good! The tartines made for the perfect snack. You select three for $ 9.50. Each tartine is three pieces on perfectly grilled como bread. We selected the smoked whitefish, serrano ham with manchego and the cannellini bean. Service was great and the place started filling up around 5:00. The dinner entrees and specials sounded great and they have a nice lunch menu as well. We will definitely be back!

I ordered the blood red orange martini which I def enjoyed. For dinner I got the eggplant parmigiana sandwich which came with a salad. The arugula salad was nice and light in a delicious dressing topped with cheese. I enjoyed my eggplant sandwich but definitely felt like there could have been less bread n more eggplant. For dessert, they brought out a slice of delicious cheesecake for my bday. It had an Oreo crust n was topped w whipped cream and shaved coconut… AMAZING! And it was on the house since it was my bday.

We had such a wonderful experience while dining at Bread + Bar. To start, we ordered a bottle of Prado Muga, one of our favorites and one we often don’t find on restaurant menus. For dinner, everything looked good and we really wanted to try a little bit of everything so we decided to share. We started with Tartines which were amazing. We also ordered one of the specials which was a pasta w/seafood, but they ran out. Instead of the server coming out to tell us it was no longer available, the owner did. He said he’d prepare something special and that he did. He brought out a linguine w/shrimp and it was amazing. After the pasta, we had the Skirt Steak. This, by far, was one of the best meals I’ve had and the service was amazing. Our server was also our bartender and she had wonderful recommendations and knew the menu well. We talked to the owner for awhile about Muga and the wines he serves. He told us about the White Wine that Muga makes and we mentioned we had never tried it. He gave us a bottle to take home. How often do you come across an owner that takes so much time with his guests. It was an amazing experience. We are from Chicago and were just in for the weekend. We ate at a few restaurants while in town and had OK vacation town food. Nothing was great and most wasn’t even that good. This meal made our trip. When I go back, I likely will eat at Bread + Bar a couple of times vs. venturing out into the downtown area for a mediocre meal.

Refreshingly awesome restaurant in BH! I think we’ve found our spot for dining when we’re in town for the Iron Man. Loved the french onion purses! The scallops were piping hot and not overdone – a rare balance for scallops. Got the pink-lemonade cake as recommended and it was a real treat. Everything was very delicious. Atmosphere was very relaxing and enjoyable. They were slammed that day to the racers in town and a classic car show but besides being out of a few items, you would have never known. Clearly they’re running a very tight show here.

A perfect spot by the waterway. Due to the heat, we dined on the tartines, French onion purses, and chicken with a wonderful bottle of white wine. The outdoor patio is awesome on a summer night, especially when a summer rainstorm passes by. Great service and great menu.

I love eating at the Bread Bar. The atmosphere is very comfortable. Casual dining with a view of the St. Joseph River. Smoked Whitefish salad is great. Eggplant Parmesan sandwich is a favorite. Desserts are fantastic. Pink lemonade cake is the best, but seasonal.

Returned to bread+bar yesterday for happy hour and enjoyed it even more than the first time! We tried two of the craft beers and a specialty cocktail and enjoyed them all. Their slider menu is innovative and we ordered all except the portobello one. Eggplant and Italian sausage versions were outstanding but honestly, they were all great! Then we tried the French onion purses, the baked French onion soup and the bacon & cheese biscuits with maple butter — wow… delicious and filling! The staff is very friendly, the bartender gave us a bit of history about the building and the owners — we’re not normally ones to sit and eat at the bar but we will be from now on! Great experience, wonderful place!
