Unfriendly! I had stopped a few hours earlier at Hamilton, Ohio to get gasoline, and then, in Fairfield, Ohio to get lunch at 1:00 p.m. I needed to take a break, use the rest room, and get something to wake me a bit. Since Burger King was sharing the building with Shell, the rest rooms were in-between the BK and the convenience store. It wasn’t exactly clean but it wasn’t nasty. I returned to BK and I was ready to order my medium mocha iced coffee, but there was one person, a manager working the drive-thru and no one at the front counter. I waited and someone from the grill area stared at me for a while, without saying a word, so that maybe I would get faster service. A couple of minutes passed and the drive-thru was still busy and somehow, the manager didn’t seem to acknowledge my presence. Another face appeared through the grill area and stared for a minute or two. Then, there was some chatter and laughter, and it went quiet again. Eventually, the manager finished with everyone else, and came over to take my order. «Is that all?» he asked me in an irritated tone. I started to reply«Isn’t that enough?» but I merely replied«yes». They wanted over $ 3.00 for the same medium iced coffee when I usually pay between $ 1.75 and $ 2.25. Besides that, he seemed to give me a small. I suppose the higher prices are to pay for the fancy machine. He chopped the ice, which is usually reserved for their frappé drinks, so I guess that’s why things were different. Maybe, I caught them on a bad day? I thought Berea was supposed to be friendly.
