Berkeley Meadows Care Center

The people who work here really care for the loved ones that live here. I cant say enough great things about this place. I hope I can volunteer and be a part of it once I move back to the area.

This is an excellent place for loved ones who are in need of long term, sub acute, or end of life care. Don’t be fooled by the older looking exterior– what is important is that the staff inside are caring, knowledgeable, and on the ball. The head of Berkeley Meadows, Angie, is amazing. She was very empathetic to my family’s difficult/​sad situation and made it clear that we were welcome to visit 24 hours a day. Things are much more relaxed here– it doesn’t feel like an institution the way Runnel’s Hospital does to me. The staff knows the names of each patient and what their unique needs are. We visited on the day after the blizzard and there was only one car in the parking lot. To our surprise there were a ton of staff members working– as a family run facility it appears a good deal of the people who work here also live in the premises.
Chris and Jeffrey were amazing nurses. Eileen, who is in charge of hospice care, is a wonderful woman who really knows how to be comforting and informative at the same time. Judy, the social worker, is also very caring. You never feel like your family member is lost in a sea of faces here as there are only approximately 30 people being cared for at this place as opposed to several hundred.
I can’t say enough good things about this place. Even the food that they were serving patients smelled good; kind of like Thanksgiving dinner. Nothing about this place gives the creepy feeling of a sterile hospital or patients who have not been cared for. Rooms look similar to a college dorm, which is a little weird at first, but much better than a lot of the alternatives. And like I said, when it comes to palliative care the important thing is the people who are there for your family member. I am so glad my grandmother is somewhere that can make her feel as comfortable as possible in her last days.
