I have been so happy with Summit Medical Group. Have had a range of unexplained symptoms and have loved being able to go from one specialist to another, all of whom have been high quality and personable. The support staff, too, are wonderful. Then I went to ophthalmology. I won’t be returning. I first went with a diagnosis of episcleritis, which he said was actually allergies — and he was correct. So I decided to return to him for my general eye care needs. At my full check-up, I knew my prescription had changed. He went very quickly through the evaluation of lenses(«Is this clearer? One or two?») and seemed more concerned in correcting my vocabulary than answering my questions(«There’s no such thing as trifocals, they’re called ‘progressives»). I took my prescription, figuring that sometimes doctors have their god complexes, and that this is the price I had to pay for high quality. When the new glasses came in, I couldn’t see through them. One eye was completely blurry. The optometrist had the glasses recut in case they had made a mistake — and still, I couldn’t see. So I returned to Dr. Gurwin. He seemed very annoyed and defensive about the idea that the prescription was wrong, never acknowledged that the mistake could have been on his end or apologized for my inconvenience for having to return to him. Again, a lecture — I said«it’s not clear when I look through the glasses.» He said, «It has nothing to do with clarity, it’s about light coming in.» I’d had enough and said, «I don’t honestly care what it has to do with, I can’t see and would like to.» No sense of humor there. I returned to the optometrist with my new prescription — which had changed dramatically from the last one Dr. Gurwin had written for me – and got my glasses redone. When they returned — again — I couldn’t see. I was not going to return to Dr. Gurwin so I went to the eye doctor in the optometrist shop who checked my eyes. Bottom line? Dr. Gurwin was wrong. He was wrong about my prescription — he didn’t even write it correctly. This doctor wrote the correct prescription, and I now have the glasses I need. I hesitated writing this review because all the doctors are connected, and I’d like to continue to go to the group — just not to this doctor. But he was so awful comparatively speaking that if writing this review means I need to find other doctors, so be it. Just don’t waste your time or money on someone who clearly doesn’t know what he’s doing and is too wrapped up in his own ego to focus on what patients need.
