Stopped here for a quick lunch with some friends and really enjoyed myself. We got there just a little before noon and the place started to fill up pretty quickly right after that. The waiters were very friendly, the Grayson Burger was the slightest tad overcooked, but still quite delicious, and the shoe string fries were cooked perfectly crispy and pretty awesome! The setup is very modest, but comfortable, and it is much more inviting on the inside than the outside. There was so much more on the menu that looked sooo good and I can’t wait to go back and try more! Happy Eating!

My friends n I went for the burger, it was so delicious. We didn’t wait for the seat on weekday around 1pm. Will go back for the Demon lover!

Da-yum. The fried chicken, waffle and gravy were so good. The chicken was juicy, tender and spiced just right. Gravy = delightful. I don’t want to know how much fat is in it, but I know it’s enough to make my heart hurt so good. The waffle was crispy and wonderful as well. Tomboy was only OK, but I would probably only come here to slather the fried chicken/gravy/syrup on myself anyway.

Those is a great place for breakfast. We waited 30 for a late Saturday brunch. After seeing the pictures of the hash browns, I had to have them. They were better than expected. Really crispy and buttery. Eggs were perfectly cooked. My wife loved the cheese grits. The wait between ordering and getting our order seemed long but sitting out in the patio made it pleasant. The service was outstanding.

I ordered the demon lover with gravy. I got there a little after opening and we still had to wait for 40 minutes before being seated for a group of 3. I was excited to try the chicken and waffles here since i’ve heard good things from friends, but didn’t expect the wait to be so long especially just after opening. When we did get seated though we got a table outside and really enjoyed the vibe of the place. I can definitely see why people come here for brunch. The dish was different from other chicken/waffle places since the demon lover came with two chicken tenders on the waffle and they gave you the choice of syrup or gravy on the side(or both). I felt that the gravy overpowered the dish a bit, but overall it was a very satisfying and filling dish. Will go back to try their burger though!

We came at 10:30 and there was a surprisingly short wait! When we left at 11:30, there were around 20 people waiting outside so be wary of the time you come! The ambience is lively but at a good volume for good conversation. I enjoyed the savory bread pudding and my friend loved her waffles with a side of perfectly crispy hash browns. They brought us a side of three different hot sauces including their special hot sauce that had just the right a joint of kick for brunch. It was a great experience!

This place was ranked #1 on 7×7 list of best chicken and waffle places but it turned out to be a big disappointment. Place is super small and very cramped. We got there right when they opened on Saturday to avoid lines. We were seated promptly and our server was great. My meal started with a chai latte. Their version was way too sweet but I got a big cup for the price. I ordered the chicken and waffles with gravy and maple syrup. It was a flattened chicken breast, battered and fried. Reminded me more of a large chicken tender than actual fried chicken since it was off the bone. Outside was crisp but meat itself lacked seasoning and salt. Parts of the chicken were perfectly moist and others were a tad over so almost starting to taste dry. Waffle was sad. It was flat and soft – reminded me more of a pancake than waffle. The gravy was not bad but needed salt. The only thing saving this meal was their house made hot sauce which was killer! My husband ordered the basic breakfast which came with scrambled eggs, chicken-apple sausage, hash browns and toast. Server brought out house made strawberry jam for the toast which was fantastic. Rest of he breakfast was lack luster except for the hash browns which were crisped to perfection. Have absolutely no plans of coming back here again for breakfast. Definitely nothing special compared to the many awesome places for breakfast in the Bay Area. Frankly, I’m still baffled at how they got ranked #1 for best chicken and waffles.

I’ve heard all about 900 Grayson and the amazing chicken and waffles ever since I first came to Berkeley. Finally having the chance to try this place, I came and left with all my expectations met. 900 Grayson is a wonderful choice for Brunch in Berkeley. With options like the Demon Lover(chicken and waffles) and the steak and fries, 900 Grayson offers more of a lunch style brunch than competitors like Café M, which has more of a breakfast style brunch. My friend and I both ordered the Demon Lover and fell in love. We were one of the first people in line before 900 Grayson opened after its break and were let in early. For 14 bucks, you get an amazing plate of crunchy buttered chicken with a large waffle. Both the syrup and gravy are perfect complements to the dish and so you can’t go wrong with either. The name«Demon Lover» is perfect because I left happy and fell right asleep at home with a food coma. You feel horribly good when you finish because it’s so good and very filling. Check it out and let me know what you think! Eat well and prosper folks,

Best chicken and waffles I’ve ever had! The chicken pieces are huge and they alone will definitely fill you up, especially if you pair them with the creamy gravy. The chicken is slightly crispy on the outside, juicy inside, and not oily at all. It’s light and doesn’t leave you feeling disgusted like fast food fried chicken does. The thin, fluffy waffle is warm and fresh, and tastes amazing whether dipped in the creamy, slightly spicy gravy or the light maple syrup. I suggest getting both sauces so you can experience both the savory and the sweet. The cheesy grits is amazing! It’s super peppery, creamy, and thick. Dipping the chicken and waffle in it is absolutely heavenly. But beware because it WILL fill you up. This place is great for a cute, trendy boozy brunch. The soju drinks are interesting and will definitely start your Saturday off right. Korean Soju Want Me has a very refreshing, minty taste; Korean Soju Marty tastes like a Bloody Mary; Bubble & Squeeze is your typical sparkling wine drink, with fresh juice. The only downside is that the line gets very long and the wait may take up to 2 hours. However, I think the wait is more than worth it. It’s also a perfect place for a date.

I can see why people like this place. It’s really a neighborhood place at heart, but the good reviews bring people in from far and wide. The renowned Chicken n’ Waffles lived up, mostly, to their reputation… but, I wish the waffle was hot n’ crispy. Instead it was limp and cold, leading me to think it was made in advance. The patio was very nice on a sunny day, bring sunglasses for lunch. There is, however, quite a bit of noise from the kitchen nearby the patio… the banging and crashing of dishes from the dishwashing area was very unsettling. My dining partner had a salad that she enjoyed very much, and we shared a crème brûlée that was luscious. Don’t forget, they close between lunch and dinner.

If you come here, the Demon Lover is the only way to go. But an original SoCal girl, I have to compare the chicken & waffles to Roscoe’s. Here’s the breakdown: — Fried chicken: No clear winner for this one because the breading and the spices are just different styles. Roscoe’s chicken has that true Southern taste, while 900 Grayson’s chicken tastes slightly fresher. — Waffles: Hands down, Roscoe’s wins with its cinnamon-y waffles. 900 Grayson’s waffles are missing some flavor and don’t stand well on its own without the chicken/syrup/gravy. — Gravy: 900 Grayson definitely wins. The gravy is flavorful, rich, and has a nice kick to it from a lot of pepper. I could eat a bowl of the gravy by itself I think it’s kind of a rip-off that they charge an extra $ 2 to the already $ 15 dish if you want both gravy and maple syrup, but I still begrudgingly pay for it everytime. You gotta have both to get the full flavor! Make sure you use some of their homemade hot sauce too, which is amazing with the gravy.

Probably one of the better places for chicken and waffle! Came here right as they opened. It’s a small and oh so popular brunch/breakfast place. I have always seen a long line of people waiting when passing by. They won’t seat you if your entire party isn’t present so make sure your friends are prompt! I ordered the demon lover with the maple syrup and the gravy! Their gravy is to die for. The chicken is fried to perfection. Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I highly recommend this to all the chicken and waffle lovers out there! Side note. The demon lover only comes with either the gravy or the syrup, but like I said I got both because I’m fat. They just charge you extra. No biggie. The parsnips in the hash was tasty! I didn’t even realize they were parsnips. It taste like fingerling potatoes. The coffee is good here!

Chicken and Waffles? I was not a fan until I tried this place… I didn’t care for this combination until 900 Grayson! Demon Lover(not literally) haha but this junk was so good! Spicy Buttermilk Fried All Natural Chicken Paillard, Buttermilk Waffle & Old-Fashioned Cream Gravy or Vermont Maple Syrup. I also don’t know what it is but their Maple Syrup was delish! Oh and the gravy, yum oh yum! There is definitely a wait even for a party of 2 and for a large party. hmm good luck not unless you go right when they open at 8:00am. I can’t wait to go back and try other stuff on their menu.

This place is awesome, and worth the wait if you catch a line at the door. They have a time slot in between breakfast and lunch that they stop taking customers, so be sure to check the time, but this is must try spot for breakfast in Berkeley. Highly recommend the chicken and waffles.

I came here on a Saturday for a brunch because I had a couple of friends who highly recommended this place. I came with some expectations, making sure I didn’t raise it too high. However, I was disappointed with everything about this experience. I came here with a party of 7 and was promptly sat within 45 minutes in the outdoor patio area. The waitress was very nice and gave us our menus to look through. Our orders were placed in promptly and thus the waiting game began. In total we waited an 1 hour and 15 minutes for our food, and they did not come out at the same time. There was a man, who might have been the owner, telling us that there is a new kitchen staff today so things might be slower. Then our hostess also kept telling us that there is a new kitchen staff and things are going to come out slowly… she told us multiple times. With these two people who kept telling us how slow things are going to be made it seem like they are very annoyed and didn’t like the new kitchen staff. or anything that was happening for that fact. While we waited, the waitress brought out jam and butter for our bread. Which made it seems like we were going to get bread?.. or at least our dishes soon? But no food came out until an hour later. However, they did give our party of 7 two free pastries to share among us. And they re-filled our waters about 3 times. At one point during the waiting game, no customers in the patio had food for about 20 minutes and we literally were looking around at each other. There were tables that came and left repeatedly until my whole table even got our first dishes out. I don’t know if they were trying to get all food out at the same time(in which I can understand) but all our foods were staggered and some people finished before others got their foods. sigh :( I have no comment for the food that day because everything came out so slowly that it ruined my appetite… 1) Demon Lover(chicken and waffles) — the waffle was soggy and the chicken was not crunchy. My friend who was here previously was not satisfied and stated it tasted nothing like his previous times here. 2) Time Life — the omelet was French styled filled with cheese and that was decent. The hash browns that it came with was very soggy and it was not from the eggs. My other friends who had the hash browns also stated that it was soggy and watery as well. This made me doubt how hash browns were exactly supposed to be like. 3) I’m not Belgian — waffles with berries. My friend stated it was decent. 4) Tom Boy — my friend who got this dish said it was delicious and nothing wrong with it. He ate the eggs and hash browns with the special hot sauce that they make in-house and actually bought the hot sauce himself for $ 7? Delicious hotsauce. Overall, the long wait and the lack of confidence from the staff ABOUT their staff equaled to not a good experience. From my table, 4 people got stomach aches an hour after, including me. I am going to give the restaurant benefit of the doubt because they stated they had a «new kitchen staff» and giving them 2 stars. This was one of two brunch places we went to on our regular visit to the Bay and wish that I didn’t have it. I would come back here again to try it when their kitchen staff has MORE experience. Until then my friend.

Came here on a Thursday afternoon and it was packed! Charming lil restaurant for breakfast/lunch. Great house coffee! They also serve beer and mixed drinks which was nice. Outside patio was closed bc of the rain but I can see it being really nice to enjoy a meal when weather is nice. Love love their Demon Lover fried chicken but not so much the waffle. Chicken was perfectly seasoned and crunchy. However, buttermilk waffle was a disappointment. As you can see from picture… looks like they use pancake batter or something but it was flat and definitely not a waffle. Would recommend they do something about that since I’ve read a few complaints from others. Partner ordered the Grayson burger and we highly recommend! Perfectly cooked medium and juicy. The herb French fries were delicious! Would be back and probably ask if they can make the waffle crunchier if possible.

NOTE: Breakfast on weekdays ends at 10:45 am and lunch starts at 11:30 am. If you want yo chicken and waffles, make sure to get up early! Finally had the chance to try 900 Grayson thanks to having friends with cars yay. I don’t consider myself a huge lover of chicken and waffles because I find there to be too much chicken. HOWEVER, I thought the chicken and waffles(aka Demon Lover) at 900 Grayson was great! I suggest sharing the Demon Lover with a friend and also getting another plate because there is a lot of chicken to eat and it does get heavy. Plus, you get to try more things! The Tom Boy(corn beef hash, poached eggs, and potatoes) was solid. I really appreciated that they gave us homemade jam with the toast. The Time-Life Cookbook(Cheese Omelet ‘Soufflé’, Idaho Hashed Browns, Fuji Apple Salad) was probably my least favorite. The hash browns were a bit too crispy for my taste and there was nothing special about the omelet. I did like the Fuji Apple Salad though. The interior of the restaurant is really cute, but the small size and popularity of the place means that you’ll probably be waiting for a table. REMEMBER that you will not be seated unless your whole party is there! Parking also isn’t that fun since you may have to fight with other customers for a spot like in our case. My friends and I barely made it in time for breakfast. However, they were nice enough to take our orders beforehand to speed up the order while we waited for a table. Overall, I thought that this was a solid place to come for brunch once in a while. It’s worth overlooking the little things like parking woes.

Love this place! It’s adorable, off the beaten path and has outstanding food. The owners, who are two brothers are really great, personable, friendly, and accommodating! They source local food from the farmers’ market in Berkeley, which I find to be awesome! Yes, support farmers! They also make their own jams and siracha sauce. I took my mom here on Saturday. It was all street parking, but it was a breeze for me. However, I could see parking being a pain. I didn’t see any metered parking which is comforting. When my mom and I arrived, there were customers standing outside waiting. When we walked into the restaurant it was packed out, a good sign! The restaurant is located on the corner of Grayson and Seventh, the body of the restaurant is along Seventh Street. I didn’t walk to the back patio but, it looked comfortable. It was a beautiful sunny day when we went, it was a really nice day. My mom and I, ended up sitting at the bar, there was enough room for 4 people. I ordered, the steak and eggs, and it was A++ delicious. The steak, which was a flat iron steak, was perfectly made to order and scrumptious! The eggs were perfect, my order even came with homemade grits, it was my first time trying grits but they were pretty good. My mom had a bread pudding, which she loved. I was a little leery about the cost of the food being that it was an off the beaten path, mom and pop, cute, quaint and eclectic place. But it was really affordable. I will definitely be back, this place is super cute and the owners help with the total vibe, atmosphere and ambiance of the place! I met one of their regular customers who frequents this restaurant and who told me that the food served during the week was better, but he thought this restaurant had great food altogether, and it does! I highly highly recommend visiting this restaurant! Great service, great food, great people!

Heard great things about this place so we went to check it out for our first time with friends. Small corner restaurant serving food for brunch. Tables are a bit close to each other and a patio in the back. Casual wear and average ambience noise level from restaurant. Came in around 9am on a Saturday morning, and already tables were filled. Lined up to get a seating for four, but only waited for 10 minutes. Will be seated if entire party is presence. I had to explain that our driver just had to look for parking, and that we were all there. It’s best to come here early since the line can tend to get long and the wait can take longer for seating. Waitress was friendly and helpful. Ordered the famous Demon Lover(chicken & waffles) with gravy on the side, and steak and eggs for my partner which we decided to share and taste both meals. Had their ginger and pomegranate drink. Although the place seem busy at the time we were there, we receive our orders quick. The chicken was brown and crispy, but the waffle was flat but wasn’t as light as i was expecting from other places I’ve been to. The steak was medium and tender, but kind of found it a bit small for its size. Also, had asked for my eggs to be over medium, but when sliced a portion of the egg to bite on, it was a bit runny. Didn’t really get how i wanted my eggs cooked. I did like the taste of the chicken and steak however. Since I have not really tried other items from the menu, I would still come back here to check it out. Hopefully, my order would be cooked the way i want it next time.

Pleased to have discovered this place. I discovered this place by complete accident one early morning, while aimlessly looking for a café to grab some coffee before heading into work close by. I came up to the front door, only to discover they weren’t quite open yet and that it was actually a full on restaurant and not just a café. It did however, strike enough curiosity to have me interested in potentially dining in with them some time; hence the reason why I came in recently. The place is small, though incredibly charming and seems to supply a good amount of seating, despite the smaller size. This place also appears to be quite the popular spot, for it was bustling with patrons, creating a very lively, inviting atmosphere. I was acknowledged and greeted immediately upon entering and was then seated at a nice little side bar area toward the middle of the restaurant. They have an outstandingly, delicious sounding breakfast and lunch menu, with enough options to satisfy most. I was assisted by and placed my order with, who I believe may had been one of the owners. He was exceptionally friendly and helpful. I was a bit indecisive at first of what I wanted to order, however, being I was quite hungry, I found the Grayson Burger to sound most appealing. It consists of: Natural Beef, Apple Wood Smoked Bacon, White Cheddar, Crispy Shoestring Onions House-Made BBQ Sauce & Herb French Fries. I just requested no BBQ sauce, and instead of fry’s, the nice gentlemen suggested their salad, tossed in their house vinaigrette. I also requested the patty be cooked medium rare. Food arrived artfully executed, and extremely delicious looking. The salad came adorned with sliced poached pears and was tastefully crafted. Burger patty was hearty in size, and certainly tasted as from natural beef. Wish the cheese had been melted just a pinch more, but other than that, the burger was extremely delicious. You can certainly tell they put a good amount of effort into their food, which does not go unrecognized. Overall, great lively atmosphere; phenomenally friendly and attentive service, along with what seems to be, well executed food made with natural, quality ingredients. With that, you can certainly guarantee that I will be making my happy way back over here again. Oh, and for that«Demon Lover» meal with the succulent looking waffles with the fried chicken that I saw people so pleasantly indulging in and raving about, holly hot damn, will I be coming back and trying that baby out… as long as I promise to spend the next day burning it off :)
