Very nice experience. The vibe is friendly and casual. Feels like a dinner party. Try the corn pizza. It is incredible!

I’m so sad to hear that this place has closed! I had just discovered them and their spectacular Butternut squash and sage pizza at a work party. I was planning to bring my BF who was super excited(he loves him some Pizza) and then boom, gone. I hope you re-open. I hope you bring your magic back in to to the world. You had something special. Good Luck Team Addie’s Wherever You Are! xox

Addie’s is now closed. :( I was ecstatic to have found a gluten-free pizza place and was lucky enough to have eaten it once, but on a trip there with my son on Tuesday(5÷15÷12), we discovered a sign in the window telling us they were permanently closed.

Addie’s was a pleasant surprise! Located in South Berkeley, it’s not the prettiest or safest looking place to walk around at night — unarmed, but upon entering the large glass doors, you’re instantly whisked away and treated to a dimly lit, romantic cove with high ceilings and beautiful windows. I’ve tried a few pizzas, salads and desserts and have consistently been happy. They seasonally update their menu, which I greatly appreciate! King St is highly recommended! My favorites have been the potato with the bacon and farm egg, and the winter squash with sage. I also have to mention the fennel and sausage. The crust has always gone well with all the added flavors. Medium thickness with enough flavor that you want to eat the ends alone, but it doesn’t overpower or distract from the toppings. The frozen custard was a HUGE disappointment after the good things I’ve heard. It lacked richness and texture. Perhaps, their freezer was broken that night. Would I rate this pizza as the best I’ve ever tasted? No, but for the price and taste — Addie’s is a must for locals; however, I wouldn’t make it a destination.

While I’m a local and really want to see this place succeed, our experience last night was beyond horrible. The service was beyond bad, we waited more than an hour for the pizza, the interior was loud and obnoxious, and the pizza was just«so so». But beyond this, the server didn’t use the gluten free dough, or he lied to us about it being available. PLEASE if someone asks for gluten free, there is a good reason. Having your intestines feel like they are digesting shards of glass all night is not fun! I don’t know if I’ll give them an other chance after this… it was a maddening experience for overpriced/mediocre food.

This was our first meal in the Bay Area. We ordered lots of things and shared them. The arugula salad and radicchio salads were excellent. The polenta with gorgonzola sounded so promising! A margherita pizza, pretty standard, but delicious. The Portobello pizza with nutmeg. NUTMEGONPIZZA! I think I’m going to have to start putting nutmeg on everything. The best thing there was the fried cauliflower. Probably the best appetizer of all time. I think there must be grooming requirements about always having a perfectly groomed 5 o’clock shadow.

Let me say, I LOVE this place. They would totally get 5 Stars if they would keep the potato pizza on the menu! Geez. Went there one night after yoga. A friend wanted to order the potato, bacon, arugula pizza with an egg. It didn’t sound great but I wasn’t really hungry, so whatever… Turns out I was SOWRONG!!! This pizza kicks ass and deserves to be on the menu everyday for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and even on Monday’s when they are closed! This is the best pizza of all time and although I respect the ever-changing menu idea… there are some things that are meant to be staples. Especially if there is nothing else close offered. We also split a blood orange salad and loved that as well. Love this place. Hate to tell you because I don’t want to stand in line, but I am hoping you will call everyday, like I do and DEMAND they keep this amazing potato pizza on the daily menu… I mean, Geez, I am not asking that much! Limited wine menu BTW, but the staff are great!

The best parts of the pie were the crust and the size. Other than those things, it lacked pizza zing. It tasted more like dough with toppings; it lacked a zesty sauce, tangy cheese, flavorful basil. Give me Patsy’s, Pepe’s, or PIQ any day! But I do recommend the strawberry custard. Quite tasty and creamy!

Sometimes you just want good, traditional American-style whole pizza. ~ Cheeseboard? Too froofy, and no tomato sauce. ~ Dopo? Italian, refined, sure — but I want something BIG. ~ Pizzaiolo? I can’t wait in line — I’m starving. Plus it’s a slightly wimpy Italian pie again. Addie’s is where you go. Good pizza, nice location, no wait! The do a good job with the meaty pizzas — I haven’t had the others. Ahhhh.

I should preface this with the fact that I’m from Chicago and am a pizza snob. I had read good things about Addies, so checked it out this evening. They have cloth napkins and table service. The staff is friendly and the pizza came to my table fast. You can order individual slices with any toppings you like – made to order. And they were only $ 3 per slice plus $ 1 per added ingredient. I ordered the sausage and cheese pizza to see how well they do with the basic. The medium thickness crust lacked crispness and solid texture. The sauce seemed canned, and the«homemade» sausage was ok, but nothing to write home about. I had to remove grease from the pizza slices, something that the chef usually does before serving it. What is this fuss over the frozen custard? I ordered it and ate just a little. Very little flavor, not all that creamy. I’ve had better from Dairy Queen. There are so many better pizza

First off, this place is more like 3 ½ stars. Great music and ambiance. The food — I am torn. The pizza was tasty but it didn’t «WOW» me by any means. The parm crostini was not my fav. I definitely enjoyed the caesar salad. It was incredibly fresh with a tangy lemon flavor. They were out of vanilla, so we opted for the blueberry and chocolate custard. They were both tasty but the chocolate had a graininess to it that I did not care for. I’ve had frozen custard several times and it’s always rich, indulgent and creamy. My husband’s blueberry was all of the above. The chocolate — not so much. Overall, it was a pretty decent experience. I’d love to see a menu expansion for the place. Many pizza parlors have tried their hand at this location and I’m hoping Addie’s sticks around.

Pizzzzzzzzzaaaaaaaaaaaa. — King’s Street(tomato sauce, pepperoni, sausage, salami, mushrooms, peppers, onions, olives) — Margherita(tomato sauce, mozzarella, basil) — Bianco(white pie with roasted mushrooms & fontina) In order of what I enjoyed. Bianco then King’s Street(fairly close in goodness for me) then the Margherita(basically a cheese pizza we ordered to accommodate one of our picky friends) a bit of a distance away. Fairly surprising since I normally like everything on my pizza and I thought King’s Street would be my favorite. But no. Bianco was just too good. Beeeeeeeeer. — a pitcher of Laguitas Pils. I usually think Pilsners are. «MEH», but I was pleasantly surprised by this choice. I guess I shoulda known, as Lagunitas(the brewery) is LEGIT and has never let me down yet. Cappuccino for dessert. Nice way to end the meal. Would definitely want to come back again.

Reservations are for groups of 6 or more. I would call in advance, but this place isn’t all that busy. There are a good variety of smaller tables and bigger tables. The space between tables is pretty big too, so it makes this place feel pretty roomy. There is also a super high ceiling that adds to this airiness. The menu is online as well as the frozen custard calendar. When I went, there was vanilla, strawberry, and Mexican chocolate. The Mexican chocolate was my least favorite because it was really dark and smoky, plus grimy in texture. It was not smooth at all like the other two. The vanilla was great and the strawberry wasn’t tart. Each scoop is served with a thin chocolate cookie. The cookie was good. There’s also a good selection of beers, both bottled and on tap. There are a few red and a few white wines offered as well. There is one tv here. There are two sizes: 12″ and 16″. The large was pretty big actually. 3 large pizzas for 7 people was filling. The King Street sounded most impressive, but was not that loaded. The margherita was good and the basil was freshly shredded. The bianco was definitely loved. I’d be intersested in coming back to try the white corn and the classico.

Went to Addie’s Pizza Pie in South Berkeley the other day. It’s only 2 blocks from Ashby Bart so anyone can get there. There are meter parking spots, but I saw covers on them — what does that mean? It wasn’t busy when I went so we could sit anywhere. We picked a two-top table near the window. They have a long bar area w/happy hr M-F 5−7pm. Booths on the Left side and tables around the huge space. We got: Warm spinach salad $ 6 — it’s enough for 1 or 2 if sharing & getting other stuff. I liked it ok. Spring Harvest ~ Asparagus, green garlic, ricotta, lemon zest * $ 18⁄25 — we got the small & it’s pretty big. 8 slices total so 4 slices is maybe too much for some, but I finished mine. Fine, but wish they had meat! I want to try the Southside ~ Sausage, spicy fennel, black olives * $ 18⁄25 if I ever go back. Should have asked if they do ½ and ½. Darn it! Wanted to try the Frozen Custard $ 3, $ 5.5, $ 8 for 1, 2, 3 scoops, but we had Ben & Jerry’s for Free Cone Day before eating here. Other desserts sounded good too: Chocolate Pave $ 6; Fruit Tart $ 6, etc. Credit cards taken. Two unisex bathrooms available. Website menu here:

3.5 if I could. Addie’s is another pizza new-comer on the block. I decided to give it a go on a Friday night and had a group of friends meet me here. Service is super nice! I called in a couple days before I was planning to show up and although they don’t really take reservations they put my name down anyways and assured me that they’d have a table ready for me in case it got super busy. Awesome! For a group of 7, we decided to split 3 small pizzas and a salad. I’ll just start off by saying that we should have ordered more food. We decided to try the warm spinach salad. The hazelnuts and vinaigrette were perfect! Unfortunately, we didn’t realize how small the salad was(portion for 1 person). For the pizzas we had the Margherita, the Southside, and the Winter Harvest. I really liked the Southside(it was my fave of the night), and the winter harvest. Both were really tasty. The Margherita was the least impressive and not memorable for me. I must say, although the pizzas were delicious, I felt that the prices were a bit too high for the amount that you get. Smalls will run you $ 18, and larges $ 25(unless you get the Margherita). If I’m craving pizza, not sure if this place would make it the cut.

Have been there for lunch twice. Got the chopped salad both times and it was fabulous. The portion was a bit smaller the second time but the tangy lemon vinaigrette is delicious. The pizza is fine but not my favorite with some many stellar pizza choices in the area. I do want to go for dinner and have the warm spinach salad and the winter squash/sage pizza — those both sound fabulous. Plus is the interior where you aren’t packed in elbow to elbow with other tables. The booths are nice and the tables move so you aren’t slammed in if you don’t happened to look like Twiggy.

Bay Area pizza expectations are at a high, and someone was bound to open up a hip new place that falls short of the remarkable standard set by the likes of Pizzaiolo, A16, Gialina, Emilia’s, Delfina, and Beretta(to name just a few that immediately come to mind). Addie’s is housed in a gorgeous, airy space, but the food was mostly a bust. We started with the chopped salad, which was an oily, underseasoned, soggy and sad mess. I’ve never left salad uneaten on my plate — this was a first. Expect California-style pizza: the crust is a little thicker and the sauce/cheese/toppings are little heavier and more aggressive than what you’d find on Neopolitan or New York-style pizza. Style-wise, then, it’s close to Pauline’s(SF), but without the same range of home-garden, interesting toppings that Pauline’s offers. It also lacked much flavor — we found ourselves adding obscene amounts of salt to coax out more flavor. Even the crust tasted plain and unseasoned. None of this was alarming in and of itself — but as others have noted, Addie’s is charging Pizzaiolo-prices and they’re not in the same league. We walked out having spent almost $ 30/person with tax/tip. My recommendation? Stick to Emilia’s for your take-out option and Pizzaiolo for dine-in.

I had an amazing summer squash pizza at Addie’s tonight, with corn, goat cheese and red onions. The crust is light and perfectly crisp, and the accompanying salads are high-end, not like the usually sloppy and boring sloppy salads you get at pizza places. I very much look forward to going back and trying the other pizzas. The beer selection is also truly cool. As for the people below who are knocking the service — did you really expect that a restaurant open two weeks would have perfectly run service? If you’re concerned that the beer is not showing up at your table two seconds after you ordered it, for god’s sake, don’t go to a brand-new restaurant. This kind of thing ALWAYS happens at new venues. For the record, the service was just fine when I went tonight, and all the food showed up promptly.

For two people, share a double chopped salad and a 12″ pizza. I recommend the sausage and spicy fennel pizza — it’s quite tasty. The dessert of galette was tasty, but really tiny and six dollars. Makes me wish Sweet Adeline was open at night so we could walk over for a perfect pastry. Looking forward to returning and seeing how Addie’s Pizza Pie evolves. Currently the menu has things like meatball pizza and family-friendly pizzas. Not sure how the simple, straight-forward pizza combos will sit with the foodies demanding things like bone-marrow and giblet pizza these days, but definitely come to Addie’s Pizza Pie with friends and family — plenty of big comfy booths and good food to share.

Tried Addies’ Pizza Pie last night. It was fabulous — with great food and a wonderful, family friendly atmosphere. The wait staff was attentive and cheerful. One of them even wrote an author recommendation for my 12-year old book-loving daughter. Where can you find this kind of service and care these days? We ordered the wedge salad with blue cheese dressing and pancetta. Yum! For pizza, we had the Margherita and Norma(eggplant, olive, ricotta, pepper flakes). Another friend ordered the Summer Harvest pizza — which is really incredible with corn, peppers, and goat cheese. Unfortunately, the frozen custard machine was not yet running but — instead — we were treated to a chocolate pave cake and a plum tart from the sister bakeshop down the street. All in all, this is a GREAT restaurant — very authentic and one that is definitely a favorite. As mentioned in some of the earlier reviews, the space is extraordinary and it’s very exciting to see a restaurant like this open in the neighborhood. One last note: some of the issues mentioned in earlier reviews appear to be getting ironed out now that the restaurant has been open for a few days.
