Unreal!!! The owner is sooo lazy its crazy. They never open on time. Absolute joke. Waste of time comin here. DONT GO HERE! Show them the same respect they show us. NONE!!! Embarrassment!
You own a business! Traffic is not an excuse. Leave earlier! If 70 hrs is too much for you, maybe this business isnt for you. We all show up to work on time. You r no different! Open your business on time! That was not the 1^st time. Ive seen ur sandwhich maker sitting outside mult after 1030. No excuses! Again, NOT THE FIRST TIME. Most of us have 30min lunches. When u dont show up to your job we have to scramble. Dont worry. You wont see us again

Great sandwiches and a crazy variety of chocolates. Greeted right away when we walked in. Super friendly staff. No sprouts available to add to sandwiches.

I got the avocado turkey sandwich, super tasty and healthy. The owner was very kind and helpful. The selection here is great, it reminds me a little bit of Whole Foods but the prices are much more reasonable.

I love the owner of this market! He is very kind. I’ve only had the sandwiches but I’ve never been disappointed. Very family like atmosphere.

I seen someone post this market on their social media page. So I decided to check it out on my lunch break. I arrived a little early so I just sat in my car until 10:30 came. Fast forward, to 10:30 the doors are still locked and there is a line outside. Around 10:47 the owners come in and I went to the deli. And a young lady says «the deli won’t be open for another 30 mins. «And walks away. Like seriously I waited my whole entire lunch to try this place out for no reason.

Great local spot for harder-​to-​find organic goods, healthy food and an excellent deli sandwiches. The Bi-​Rite of Berkeley for sure.

I got in there a little late, and the deli was already closed. But when I was asked what I wanted, a lebni sandwich, the owner jumped up from the register and made it for me. It was every bit as delicious as I’d hoped. Thank you!

A surprisingly large amount of foodstuffs packing into a convenient location across the street from Ashby bart. Better evening hours than Berkeley Bowl, so great for picking up a missing dinner item after 8pm. They don’t seem to open very early on the weekends, so have had to explore a bit farther out in the neighborhood for missing breakfast ingredients.
People that run this place are very nice and helpful when you need a hand finding something.

This friendly little shop has it all! Their deli puts out consistently excellent sandwiches, and their selection meets my needs. The service is always friendly, and the owners are good local businessmen. I feel good shopping here, and I’ve always gotten great sandwiches from their deli.
Today I ordered the Kansas Chicken, which is out of my comfort zone. It was bangin’! Oh, so rich and delicious, the ciabatta so soft, the chicken and bacon so fresh, veg and hot sauce such a nice balance… I want another, now. The other day, a while back, I ordered the California Dreamin’ to see just how good they were — it’s all too easy to make a boring veggie sandwich, but theirs was on point. Delicious, flavorful, not too salty, not too plain. Yum.
They have other stuff too, and even though you can get it at the chain stores, wouldn’t you rather support them than a bunch of grippy shareholders in wherever-​they-​are-​land?
Give this place a shot, try something you wouldn’t usually try, and be open to an experience. The Berkeley Public Library is around the corner with a bathroom, and I hear they do demos out front on Saturdays. Cheers!

Love this place! it’s like Whole Foods on steroids, but at twice the price. The produce is very fresh and tasty, and I could easily spend hours looking at all the brands they carry. Lots of hidden gem of snacks to be found.
They also have a good variety of juices and sandwiches available. I tried the banana date smoothie and it was very refreshing and filling, though it did have chunks of dates in it that made it hard to drink at times. I would have liked if the juice was blended a bit more.

A friendly, neighborhood spot where they take their time making delicious sandwiches. I highly recommend the pesto chicken on ciabatta add lettuce and tomato. Boom.
Grab a drink and chips to go and on a sunny day find a bench nearby to enjoy the food.

Ashby Marketplace is a small, friendly family-​owned and operated gourmet grocery and deli.
They make the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. Large, fresh ingredients, and a fair price (nowhere else near College Ave will you find a gourmet sandwich that serves light lunch for 2 for only $ 6.50).
Ashby Marketplace offers a wider selection of teas, Bob’s Red Mill products, and Castile soap than you will find at any other store, and some hard to find items like quality Rosewater, all at a fair price.
They do sell some fairly expensive gourmet condiments and the like, but I just don’t buy those anywhere. And do note that non-​GMO/​organic/​fair trade chocolates are cheaper at Berkeley Bowl, if you have time to go over there.

This market is fantastic! Great prices on high quality organic foods and products and a delicious deli. I highly recommend the pesto turkey sando and the Reuben. I am very thankful this little gem is in my neighborhood.
