Bacheeso’s

There are two of these, one in Oakland and this one in Berkeley. It’s owned by the same woman, but her son has taken over the one in Oakland. I’d give the Oakland location 4 stars, while this Berkeley location was very disappointing to say the least.
We came for the weekend buffet ($ 12.50), and the food was very westernized and poorly prepared. There’s bread instead of a basket of pita. The other location has much more traditional Mediterranean dishes. When I did find pita, it was smothered in hummus in a small bowl, disgustingly hard and soggy at the same time. No telling how long the food has been sitting here… As it was ALL cold/​soggy.
Not sure how clean things are, as we had to go through a few plates before finding one without food on it. Live music was nice, but this is at both locations.

The food was ok until we started seeing a small mouse coming in and out of the wall and finally walking under our table. It is a Persian buffet restaurant with a little bit of american hint to it.
After seeing the mouse walking around and the lady (i think she was the owner) not reacting with a huge surprise or not feeling embarrassed at all when we mentioned that we saw a mouse, makes me doubt its cleanliness. Was the first time I went there, will be the last time.

Came here for the Sunday brunch and it was so lovely! The food was delicious and there was a wide variety. It is buffet style but they charge you a fee if you take a lot of extra food and don’t eat it. I think that’s fair considering how much food is wasted at other buffet places. There was great live music, lovely ambiance and décor, and we got to sit at the traditional table with pillows and low seat.

Sunday Brunch buffet is amazing! And only $ 12 =D Over 20 dishes including whole carved chicken, lamb, and salads salads salads. Outdoor seating has white table clothes with flowers. Super friendly service and comfortable wine list.

This food was soooooo so so good. I came on a Sunday evening (3pm) and the buffet was so amazing! Every craving I had was satisfied!
This is actually my new favorite restaurant ! I will be back, except next time with all my friends. I wish I had something bad to say, but I absolutely loved the food here. I don’t understand why they don’t have all 5 star reviews.
Let me add– the desserts are not the most picturesque, but they WERE AMAZING. Try everything !

High-​quality buffet of delicious organic mediterranean food, with many creative dishes (not your standard mediterranean spot) for vegetarians and non-​vegetarians. Nice atmosphere with outdoor seating and the staff and owner are friendly. And, they donate the leftovers from their buffet to people who are hungry and in need. I highly recommend Bachesso’s. Also an excellent weekend brunch spot.

This restaurant is a gem of berkeley. The food is delicious and made with love and the price is cheap. You don’t have to get the buffet and can just order a breakfast meal.
The staff is friendly and gives you a lot of attention.
Go in, You won’t be dissapointed.

No complaints about this great restaurant. All local and many organic choices. They charge $ 5.00 for wasted food (don’t waste food, people!) and they donate what is not eaten.
This is a great spot for a buffet dinner on Saturday evening!

The first time I was at this place was when I gave my partner a surprise birthday party. It’s not easy to organize a large party but I have to say, the owner extended all help to make the party a success! I called to make the reservation, they asked how many and if I have special set up needed, that was it. When we got there everything was set up. A server was assigned to us and she made everything flow so effortlessly. Our water glass never run empty cause our server would fill it up once it reached half way. Used plates were picked up immediately and orders were serve quickly. The price is very reasonable. Its by UC Berkeley so they priced there food to accommodate university student’s budget.
The food here is very good! Its Mediterranean food so they have a lot of healthy options and they can even customize it to your liking with in reason. One of our guest liked it so much she wanted to celebrate her birthday at Bacheeso’s too, hence the second visit!
My second visit was equally delightful! Same attentive service and the food was as amazing as the last time!
This visit is definitely not the last!

This is our favorite brunch spot to go to and the food never disappoints! The owner is a very lovely and friendly woman who also does catering. I love the ambiance and the music that they play. It is very relaxing. I love that this place serves locally grown food for a decent price that keeps us coming back.
There have been times when the service was horrible. Once, an Asian host didn’t even acknowledge us the whole time! But, I think there won’t be a problem since I have noticed new women that are very attentive and friendly!
She makes her own bread and it is delicious.

My housemates and I had heard about this place and its raves that we decided to have a house dinner here one night. We opted for the buffet option because we eat A LOT.
I was more than a bit disappointed about the food quality of the buffet. I knew that if it’s buffet that the quality was likely not to be on par as the menu items, but it’s REALLY not as good. The buffet items were left out in the open, no heating or anything, and no one ever refilled some of the dishes.
Even though my friends and I came in at a normal dinner time (6:30pm) most dishes were already gone and they did not replace them.
Because the food quality of the buffet was subpar, it makes me doubt the quality of the daily menu items but we might try the other location for that instead. This location, while it had an actual parking lot on the side of the restaurant, did not have the same ambience as its other location in Oakland. The Oakland location feels more upscale and appears to have better service (we had stopped there first before driving to the Berkeley location).

Came here for my birthday dinner tonight. I LOVE Greek food. I have been looking forward to this for weeks. Unfortunately, this establishment dell shore of my expectations. We came around 1645 and the only available option was the buffet. Apparently there is only a menu on mon-​fri morning. Our bad, no worries. Let’s try the buffet.
Tried the buffet and the pita was extremely stale. None of the food was covered or kept hot or cold which made me weary to eat due to food borne illness. I also asked for some tzatziki sauce and she said they didn’t have any. There was no variety or basic items you would hope to order at a Greek restaurant. Unfortunately, I will not come back.

Uncrowded, mellow music.
Hummus was amazing. Roast turkey, chicken and ham were cooked perfectly. Assortment of vegetables rice potatoes pasta more than adequate.
Moussaka and breakfast options were equally incredible. With four of us we didn’t come close to trying everything on the menu.
We will return. Soon.

I don’t even know where to start with this place… dropped in here for lunch today, as my mom and I wanted something different. We arrived around 12:30−1pm. The place wasn’t very busy, but there were people there that seemed to be enjoying there food. We sat down and were given paper (to go style) menus. It was a comedy of errors from then on.
Waitress comes over to take our order — we ask for the falafel plate. Waitress says leaves, comes back and says… I am sorry we do have the falafel plate today or ANYTHING ON THAT ENTIRE SIDE OF THE MENU. —Strike 1
Then we order 2 sirloin gyros. We asked if anything came on the gyros besides the tzatziki and meat and were told no. We ask to add onions. Our gyros came… they were dripping with oil (not sure but i think from the onions) and had no tzatziki. Inquired to the waitress, she leaves, asks someone, and comes back and says that they don’t have any. Could have told my that when I ordered! Ate it anyway because I was too hungry to not eat it. (The meat had good flavor) — Strike 2
Waitress asks if she can get us anything else and we so no, expecting to get the bill to come. Sit there fiddling with our phones for 5 – 10 mins. Finally get up, and the waitress says… oh you can pay at the register. Again– could have told me that before! –Strike 3!
Finally get up to pay the bill, get to the register, and ask for the manager. I tell the manager the whole story. He didn’t even believe me when I told him that the menu said there was Tzatziki. I grabbed a menu, and pointed it out to him. Then the couldn’t figure out how to use the register. Strike 4 and 5

We came yesterday for Mother’s Day Brunch. I didn’t like it as much as the location in Oakland. This location is quite a bit smaller and the number of buffet items seems to reflect that. Maybe my memory is a little over-​inflated though.
I also suspect that the buffet on a normal weekday/​weekend would have better suited us. We weren’t really in the mood for breakfast but many of the items were breakfast oriented and more geared towards a Mother’s Day brunch. I suspect those items (fresh toast, pancakes etc) replaced some of the regular items my husband had read about in reviews and was looking forward to. A shame.
We did receive a Mimosa with our brunch though. Very nice. Food was still very good and very veggie friendly. We loved their salads. Their beet soup (borscht) was fantastic! I had two bowls of that. It’s been a while since I had borscht. They also had decent desserts. Not too many to choose from but since I was stuffed to the gills at that point, it was plenty. The banana cream cake/​pie was really quite delicious. Our only major criticism on the food was that the poached eggs were seriously overcooked. On the other hand, the sunnyside up eggs were beautifully done.
Left very full. The fact that they have free parking! in Berkeley is a huge plus.

Went to this place with my coworkers one day and instantly loved it. Mediterranean buffet for $ 11? I’m in!
They have a wide range of foods from pita/​hummus, pesto pasta, chicken, lamb, and the desserts are amazing. Even though this place is centrally located on Telegraph, I’ve never really paid too much attention to it while passing by. The atmosphere is very homey and the place definitely has a personal touch to it.
The owner is very nice and talks to us every time we go in. She mentioned they even do weddings there and there was a wedding that took place one weekend we went in that had about 120 people.
Another thing is all of their food is organic. They have their own farm apparently and grow their own veggies.
Overall great experience, and everyone I take there loves it.
Would return anytime!

Faster than fast food — this is a big buffet with many options that all tasted pretty good. The price was very reasonable for Sunday brunch, and even close to 2pm, there were still people coming in. The waitresses were friendly and welcomed us to sit wherever we wanted to. The selection was good, and they say they donate leftovers from the buffet for charity — a good cause, it seems!
This is Persian-​fusion style food, and met my expectations.

I had high expectations for this place since I had already been to the other location.
I’d heard better reviews for this place and so I knew I had to make it here for their Friday Buffet.
IT EXCEED MY EXPECTATIONS !!
The food was absolutely Amazing!
& the atmosphere was so warm, romantic, and homey at the same time!
There was live music, a man was playing the sitar so beautifully!
They had a good variety of selection, everything was fresh and homemade.
I really enjoyed the salmon rice, and the lamb.
They had great wine selection and even had a SUPERB dessert selection!
All the cakes were like homemade and so fresh tasting!
they’re kitchen looks simple and rustic and you can see them making most of your food.
I’m very sad that I didnt get to make it here for Valentines day because this is the PERFECT place for a date night.
Not only is the food amazing but its organic & HEALTHY!
DEFINITELY coming back ASAP and always going to recommend to friends and Family.

In order to avoid the ‘ethnic’ tasteless, highly-​spiced food that passes for tasty while burning the mouth, no actual taste to it, down the block on Telegraph, we ate instead at Bacheeso’s. A luxury from every standpoint except cost. They grow much of the food and cook delectably. As well, the place — on Telegraph Av., Berkeley, is excitingly pleasant.
Bread/​filler is not the basic component of the meal! Healthy food is.

If you are ravenously hungry and want a lot of food for a cheap price, this is definitely the place for you.
I lived literally right next to this place for a year before I finally tried it. I was amazed that this option was always open to me. The brunch buffet on weekends and the lunch buffet on weekdays are both extremely reasonable in price and there is a large selection of salads, meats, pastas, and desserts.
I am not too familiar with Mediterranean food, but I happen to think everything was quite good. I never had an unpleasant experience here, and the staff has been consistently friendly to me. One of the owners told me that they have live music on some nights and recommended that my friends and I come again and check it out.
I guess my only qualm would be that the food is sometimes very heavy. I always leave this place super stuffed.
