I’m giving it a 3 solely based on the salad I got… Ordered the Cobb. Overall it was just made with… well… What looked like cheap produce Ever ordered a salad that came to you made with barely green iceberg lettuce and a tomato that was barely red? That was this salad. It was big, but other than the sliced avocado on top it just looked and tasted like a salad you’d get in a cheap diner or a cafeteria. I guess this is mainly a student hang out so maybe they’re not too picky. It did look like they had decent selection of drinks and sandwiches. Lot of seating.

Only got their latte and it was expansive and not tasty at all. Lots of room though and the ambiance if fine. But don’t go there for coffee.

Quick and decent coffee quality. The pumpkin spice was alright but the biggest draw here is the size of the café. There’s lots of seating and chairs available but unfortunately electrical outlets aren’t as common. It’s a great getaway and close to the rsf.

Pretty quick, average service, large interior, nice artwork and table arrangements. Restrooms for customers only. I saw an ant where the milk and sugar were but hey, it happens. Overall nice place to study or just relax. I got a 12 oz americano. Tastes like Peets, not that it’s a bad thing, but nothing too extreme.

I love the coffee here — aromatic, strong, and smooth! I also like the Nutella hot chocolate, floor coffee, and lemonade with crushed mint! I like how they aren’t overly sweet. The lemonade is very refreshing. Good place to study because it’s mostly students and there are lots of tables and chairs. Wifi sucks here so great way to not get distracted by Facebook if your studying doesn’t require the Internet…(I’m writing the Unilocal review from my phone, and it can’t even pick up the wifi from the café because it’s too slow) The annoying part is that they play the music here really loudly. And it’s like cheesy music like Savage Garden’s «Truly Madly Deeply» or Brian McKnight’s «Back at One» or Bruno Mars’ «When I was your man» I like these old songs but I can’t focus or study with the volume at that level. It seems like the owner of this café really takes in feedback though so I gotta give them 4 stars for caring about their customers. Would come back again! Love their coffee! Keeps me awake for the arduous times ahead LOL.(I’m writing this review before my 4 finals in the next 48 hours)

Really really bad coffee, but my roast beef sandwich was pretty good. A good study spot, so I do plan on coming back and giving the coffee another chance(or maybe I’ll order another drink next time).

I love how there’s so many seats. The coffee is good and strong. Pretty smooth too. But I’m not so into the food here. It’s ok. I got a bagel and it wasn’t half bad. Also parking is hard to find since its on Bancroft but most ppl who come see students. There is wifi. Also paintings or art work and photos on the wall. Pretty good place to study or hang out.

I LOOOOOOOOOVE the ambience here. This was always my go-to study place if I didn’t want to go on campus or study at home. There is always seating available BUT beware, not all tables have access to nearby outlets. They do play music here so if you’re looking for some place quieter, this might not be it. It can also get loud too if too many people are present. As for the bathrooms, there’s a separate male and female bathroom which is a plus. I only ever ordered food here once and loved the sandwich. i don’t remember what I got but it was probably some sort of chicken sandwich. This is a good place to study alone, in pairs or meet up for group projects and planning. I definitely miss this place ever since I left Berkeley!

Nutella hot chocolate… WHAT! How have I not heard of this place before? Well, as you can probably guess, I loved it. You can feel the nutella flavor but it is not overbearing in the hot chocolate. It gives you a good sugar boost to get you through the day. I didn’t try anything else while I was here, but I noticed they have free WiFi and a lot of sitting room, so looks like a good place to study.

This is one of my favorite places to go study. Lots of tables, outlets and coffee of course! Wi-fi isn’t the fastest but usable. The password is bluedoor. The baristas are also really nice and friendly as well! I usually get their Lattes — they have just the right amount of milk and coffee!(Although sometimes their coffee can be a little inconsistent depending on who is making them but most of the time it’s very good.) One tip is to come here early on Sunday if you plan on studying here to get seats since it get pretty much filled up by 11am! Though it is kind of hard because so many college students are night owls right?

Excellent study spot, although it does get full during Finals week(like everything else). Good enough quantity of outlets. Acceptable ambiance, although the entire month of December they played Christmas albums. What’s worse than studying for finals? Studying for finals listening to Christmas music. I’ll generally meet up with friends here to catch up. Staff is always super incredibly friendly to me and I usually end up getting into long-winded conversations with at least two of them– but maybe that’s just me. Coffee is… solidly decent. Lattes are hit/miss, Cappuccinos are always sub-par(but that’s okay, pretty much every place has sub-par Caps). They have soy and almond milk, but charge exorbitantly for them. My usual drink of choice is an iced Americano, and then I ask them for soy/almond for the drink at no additional charge.

Café Blue Door. Cafê Porte Bleue. I have walked by or passed by this establishment countless times this year. I had an appointment to meet with a GSI(who I was informed by Le Professeur) who rates Catherine Deneuve as one of her favorite people and performers. I wanted to write my final paper on Catherine Deneuve for my class on Stardom and Cinéma. The GSI responded to my email and suggested that we meet at Café Blue Door/Café Porte Bleue. Considering that we were going to talk about ideas for my paper on Mme. Deneuve, somehow this seemed to be a rather appropriate place to convene and converse. I got there early to order something to eat and had hoped to eat it before my appointment with the GSI. There was a sarnie that sounded rather appealing with my favorite condiments and such. However, when I found out the sarnie consisted of four kinds of meat – roast beef, ham, pastrami, and whatever the fourth meat was – that was way too much for this carnivore. I decided to have the basic roast beef and Swiss cheese sarnie instead. It was ready at the same time as The GSI arrived to meet me. The GSI was fine with me eating my sarnie while we talked with one another about ideas for my paper as well as Madame Deneuve. The sarnie was all right, it hit the spot. And I had a great time meeting The GSI discussing all great things Cal and Catherine Deneuve. I will concur with the other reviews of Café Porte Bleue that the atmosphere is conducive to studying and/or meeting with friends to catch up. I would come back again to study and to partake in the Café Porte Bleue’s coffee and chocolate drinks. I will return for the Nutella hot chocolate mentioned in many of the reviews. Happy New Year! Cheers to 2015! SYOY!

Although the food and drinks are adequate, Café Blue Door is an excellent study location. Tip #1: Again, food is just ok. The main selling point is that this café has lots of big tables and outlets. It gets busy on weekends or around finals, but other than that there’s usually plenty of free seats. Tip #2: WiFi is good for casual browsing, but not fast enough if you need it for anything else. Overall: One of the best cafes near campus to study at!

TLDR: Come here to study!(before noon) One of my favorite places to study because there are tons of outlets and seating for everyone. Coffee is just okay but decently priced. I normally just get their house coffee. I had the turkey sandwich today. It was good but like most coffee shops, sandwiches are always overpriced for what they’re really worth. I normally come here before 11AM and there are plenty seats to choose from but once it hits noon, people come crowding in. Service is a tad slow. I ordered a salad to-go for my friend and ended up waiting a long time. I think it’s super neat to see them doing the pour over right in front of you though.

Tasteless salads, bitter americano Seatings are uncomfortable and there are little flies everywhere that gets in your face. And the service is slow. I don’t really like this café, and I don’t think I will ever come back here to study again.

I’ve came here countless of times, sat here for 14 hours straight, ate so many of their sandwiches as well as cups and cups of their coffee! A very popular place for college students to study with decent café food and not bad coffee. Plenty of seating, well lighted, and okay internet. If you’re lucky, you can connect to Airbears. Sometimes it smells like bacon in here when they decide to cook club sandwiches.

I had the very best latte here; haven’t had that kind of quality temperature and foam for… I cannot recall! Bombdiggity food, very close to the new corner and gorgeous re-birthed like the phoenix Great China restaurant. Wanted something warm and toasty before watching Yo-Yo strut his stuff… and I was so pleasantly bowled over. The café looks simple… spread out tables for studying and such. But the quality of the drink and food I sampled makes me want to come back and try more. Like the hours here. Café name reminds me of Blue Dog. Free wifi, which also is most excellent

Having gone to Berkeley for four years and had countless headaches over the lack of study space at nearby cafes, I’m really glad this place opened up. even if it opened after I graduated. The point is: café + roomy + good drinks + open decently late = yay! The interior reminds me of Sacks on College, very minimalistic and aged. If you’ve been in Berkeley long enough, you’ll know what I mean. It boasts a good selection of drinks, and my friend and I decided to try the Chai and Floor Coffee. I was tempted by the pastries and cookies, especially the Halloween-themed ones( ), but resisted this time around. Next time though. Floor Coffee: espresso with vanilla ice cream, caramel drizzle, and crushed almonds: ( ) This was honestly amazing. I wouldn’t necessarily call it a drink. it’s definitely more of a dessert, but nonetheless it was really, really delicious. The espresso was bitter but very smooth, and the vanilla ice cream melted in just-right proportions to not turn the whole thing into a milky slushy. I have to say the crushed almonds were a little stale, but they lent a lot of flavor to the bittersweet concoction, and the drizzle of caramel was just the cherry on top. This definitely wouldn’t be a frequent repurchase for me just because of how rich it is, but I’d love to spoil myself after an especially tough day or stressful test. Large Chai latte with nonfat milk: ( ) This was okay, good but not the best I’ve ever had. The chai itself was a little watered down, and it suffered from being overly sweet. The nonfat milk gave it a lighter character and maybe made it taste a little more dilute, but I’m a firm believer that if a chai is really a good chai, it’ll withstand not having the fat content from milk to buoy itself up. I like this place for what it is. The prices are pretty reasonable, there’s self-serve ice water, and the bathrooms are decently clean.
