This semi-historic building is home to a neighborhood social club that’s been in existence for maybe 80 – 90 years. During the ’50’s and ’60’s, it was the venue for a dance class that kids from John Muir and Emerson schools attended. 11 – 12 yr olds were taught the waltz, fox trot, the cha-cha, as well as basic manners. Hundreds of kids went through this rite of passage. This past Saturday, 170 of them came back and relived the memories. I’ve imagined throwing this reunion for years, and it finally happened, and absolute magic occurred. People came from as far away as New York, L.A., Oregon, Tahoe… it was nothing short of amazing. Funny thing. when we were kids, the place seemed cavernous… Saturday, it seemed alot smaller!
