Deirdre has been working with my 15 year old gymnast son off and on for quite some time. She is the best physical therapist I have ever dealt with, and an absolute gem for high level athletes. In fact, she has Olympians on her client list, and there is a reason for that. High level gymnasts have multiple injuries throughout the year. Deirdre has kept my son healthy enough to perform at an optimal level throughout 2013 and 2014 in spite of various dings, strains, and overuse problems. The very best PT’s are not going to accept the rates set by insurance companies, so you will have to pay. Go into the relationship understanding that fact.

I just stumbled upon this Unilocal review of Deirdre’s. As a long time patient of Deirdre’s I was shocked to see this rating and need to set the record straight. Yes, the lack of insurance billing is not for everyone. But, that is a reflection of our country’s health insurance issues and says nothing about the quality of care. If I was a medical provider, I’d try to stay clear of insurance billing too! It’s a full time job. Frankly, I find more and more, the BEST medical providers don’t bill insurance –but, as with Deirdre, they give you the receipts/paperwork you need to file on your own. Yes, in a small shop, sometimes interruptions can happen. But that is RARELY the case, not the norm. The trade off is you are seeing an individual, not lined up at a huge PT farm. Now, to what really matters: Care and treatment. If you’ve ever been to an average PT provider, you get greeted by a receptionist, shown to the treatment table, have about 20 min with the PT and then some exercise instruction, possibly by an assistant, and some ice/heat therapy, again overseen by an assistant, or, even the receptionist. With Deirdre, you get 50+min HANDS on work. After assessing and diagnosing, she is hands on working the areas in and around your problem; teaching you exercises if needed; working elect. stim or traction or just deep hard muscle release work. Not always super pleasant, as those muscle release moves can HURT. But the work is excellent and hands on the entire time. You won’t find better PT.
