Yet another reason I love living in Berkeley… South Berkeley to be exact. Good folks, good music, community involvement, and plain olé good times! A venue you wouldn’t really know about unless you lived nearby or heard about it through word of mouth. A nice homey feel to every event they put on. Check out Twang Café the first Sunday of every month if it’s still happening. Yeehaw, babies!

I love Epic Arts, I love their mission and vision. If you haven’t been to Epic Arts yet, keep an eye out, check their website and find an excuse to go! This non-profit organization offers a great mix of culture, music, poetry and a full range of community based events. They also sponsor the«How Berkeley» festival. I believe the space can also be rented for private use as well. It’s a great spot, a converted Berkeley home. There are some big plans for Epic Arts in the near future, so stay tuned. Tom W’s review is excellent and I couldn’t put it any better.

This is a very cool place to see a show though a bit of a secret… it’s only open during performances so you won’t just wonder in other times to get a drink like most venues. It’s got a New York City-style«underground café» feel to it It’s very intimate and cozy with a funky and artistic style. The show line– up is very diverse — singer-song writers, poets, beat boxers, vaudeville style lounge acts, a monthly Americana series, story tellers… you name it. In addition to the in-house stuff their site lists lots of other events too.
When you go to a show at this joint you feel like you have wondered into a private party and all the people you have ever wanted to meet are there. The team who run this volunteer-based non-profit are some talented and hard working folks with passion and vision. Word is they will be doing a big expansion of the space to accommodate even more shows soon.
