A skilled, reliable and honest artisan, rare in our times of mass-​produced rubbish. All the bookshelves i have made by him have been simply wonderful — they are extremely sturdy and will outlast many a human life. Very highly recommended for doctoral students who have tons of books that need organization. Fernand will custom make anything for you, and provide recommendations and great ideas for tight-​fit situations. thumbs up.

Fernand made us a wonderful paperback-​depth bookcase for our hallway, and he delivered it to our door (for a $ 5 delivery fee) a week after we ordered it. The shelves aren’t just attached via pegs or nails or any of that kind of stuff: they’re actually wedged solidly into the sides of the bookcase in an attractive, sturdy way. I imagine this bookcase will outlive us!
Fernand does not have a cell phone, email, or website, but if you leave him a phone message he’s good about returning calls promptly. If you want to actually see some examples of his work, you can look for him at the Ashby Flea Market, and if you’re wanting some excellent, unfinished, custom bookcases, it’s worth it. You won’t find better than this.

Amazing man!
He made us some beautiful 9ft bookcases of varying depths. This would have been way out of our price range — even for the ikea stuff. Not only are they gorgeous but they are really well made. AND when it was time to deliver them, he gave us a great deal if we helped.
If you are looking for something smaller, he has some pre-​made stuff too.
Admittedly it’s a tiny bit weird in this day and age to seek out a dude at a flea market and get something amazing but it is totally worth it.

If you need unfinished, solid wood shelves, or anything else made out of wood for that matter, Fernand is definitely the guy to call. I’ve been doing business with him for years after meeting him at Ashby Flea Market. Now I usually just call him and tell him what I need. He makes shelves and boxes to your exact specs, and he’ll even cut pieces of wood for you if you want to build your own stuff but don’t have a big table saw. His prices are really good, too, significantly lower than any of the shops that sell unfinished shelves.

My husband and I have bought all of our book shelves from Fernand and they are absolutely terrific. Sturdy, strong, well made, reasonably priced. Fernand is reliable and solid too, just like his book shelves. I recommend him with great enthusiasm!!!

Do you need custom bookshelves? Do you want unfinished solid wood? I did and wasn’t sure where to go. Then I remembered there used to be a guy at the Ashby Flea Market who made pine shelves, so I went there and sure enough, there was Fernand just as I remembered!
I had him make two shelves that needed to fit perfectly on a wall and match our older shelves. He was very quick and the shelves are solid, perfect and definitely affordable. I’m just about to have him make another one!
He has pre-​made bookshelves (bookshelf, book shelves, book shelf, bookcases, cd cases, whatever you call them) that he sells at the Ashby Flea Market on Saturdays and Sundays OR you can call him to make a custom size. He also delivers! And he’s cheaper than any of the other places I found.
