I don’t really eat taquitos or tamales so I can’t really speak on the authenticity of how it tastes but this place is an all vegan restaurant i think. I come here on most Tuesday’s for $ 1ish taquitos because it’s really good and tastes like real meat. Plus it’s cheap and filling! The green salsa((spicy) there’s also medium or regular spice level also) has a kick to it which makes it a little more addicting. Definitely a must try for all you vegetarians and vegans you won’t be disappointed! They have indoor and outdoor seating but very limited when it’s packed. Tamales, tacos and taquitos — thumbs up.

Excellent, tasty, and consistent. The verde sauce comes in mild, medium, and hot. Hot is intense, so get one of the hot and one of the mild. I love the tacos and taquitos. The calorie content for them is on the lower side too which is a plus for me. The tortillas are so fresh and their masa that they sell makes the best tortillas I have ever made at home. I never would have known this place was vegan if someone hadn’t explained it to me. The fillings are some of the most flavorful that I have ever had at a Taqueria.

Not being a Vegan and also a very picky eater when it comes to Mexican food… I was very skeptical. Proven wrong!!! I absolutely loved it! I had tacos … delicious!

I’ve only ever had the vegan taquitos and vegan horchata but I’ve loved them both so much, there was never a need to try anything else. This place is another on my list of places I like to visit when I’m in the Bay Area(along with Cheeseboard and Saturn Café). It’s a short walk from the Ashby BART stop in a small building(maybe a former house?) making it easily accessible even from any hotel in downtown Berkeley.

One of my most FAVORITE places. The taquitos are the the best!!! Usually I love a really spicy hot salsa or sauce, but I gotta say I love their mild and medium salsa. They’re just a consistently delicious spot!

An excellent selection of gluten free items and everything is vegan. It’s a small spot, so if you’re in a rush, swing by early or near closing time. Otherwise, be prepared to wait for a bit. I highly recommend the Huarache, which is basically a salad on top of a layer of avacado, on a layer of beans, on a layer of rice all atop a fresh corn tortilla smothered in a house salsa. It’s great.

I was really excited to try Flaco for the first time, but unfortunately it let me down. If you’re used to AUTHENTIC Mexican food, don’t come here, you will be disappointed. If you’re into mediocre Mexican food such as Taco Bell or something then you wouldn’t mind this place. I ordered the Taquitos Plate and was extremely disappointed. Yes yes YES I know this is a VEGAN place, I am vegan too! But let me start off by saying how plain the Taquitos were. Soy protein was the only thing in the taquito. There should of at least had vegan cheese in there. The rice was overcooked and mushy. Beans weren’t amazing. And it came with a salad on the plate. The salad even tasted horrible! It just tasted like someone sprinkled lime juice on it, no flavor other than that. It was very sour. I love my salsa SPICY. Got the avocado salsa in HOT and it wasn’t the best. I had really high hopes for this salsa but there was no flavor. No taste. Salsa is very flavorful, that’s why we use it. The avocado salsa just burned my mouth in a bad way. Other than that, maybe some of their items are better than what I experienced. I just think that Flacos really needs to update their recipes and learn how to use different spices, and add some vegan cheese to their dishes! Service was good, it wasn’t memorable but it wasn’t bad. AGAIN, if you are into mediocre Mexican food then spend your money here. But if you want something more authentic that hits home, try somewhere else such as Hella Vegan Eats(they’re amazing) or Gracias Madre.

I was so excited to try the food here because it’s hard to find vegetarian/vegan Mexican food. Unfortunately, the flavors and textures were very muted. I wondered if the avocado sauce was chayote purée. The tamal was dense, and the filling soppy and indistinguishable, the portions small, and the service neither friendly nor unfriendly. In principle, it’s great. There are so few options for vegetarians when it comes to Mexican food, and Flaco’s offers meatless nutrition. But, considering the depth and variety of flavors in Mexican or vegan cuisine — even the most basic elements — Flaco’s falls short.

Before we launch into the review, can we just agree how much fun it is to say, «flacos tacos? » Say it out loud, say it to somebody, it’s fun! You can even take a shortcut, and just call it, «Flaco’s.» Moving on. It’s actually a bit difficult to review somewhere where everything they serve is, frankly, fantastic. It is tough enough to find a decent authentic Mexican restaurant in The Bay. Flaco’s, however, manages to putter along, open a little shack, and bring out some of the best tacos and taquitos I’ve ever had, ever. I mean they are vegan and everything, which is great… but the important thing is that the food tastes excellent. It far excels above and beyond what you would consider to be good. It’s genuinely great food. If it’s your first time, I would recommend getting the Huaracha Plate and the taquitos. The taquitos are what they are known for, but the huaracha plate is as equally ridiculous. And you can order it extra sssspicy(I love spicy food. The hotter, the better! This isn’t just«spicy,» it is exploding with flavor. The huracha It’s served with like 2 cups of cilantro, so it might not be your thing. But if you like cilantro, gotta do it. It’s hella good! I will say, I wish they had vegan nachos. That would be something to write home about. That being said, I’ve never had a bad meal here, and I’ve been here a dozen times easy. So as short and sweet as this review is, do not let it fool you. The fact of the matter is that anything you order will be delicious, and everything is very, very different. Drop the mic!

Authentic Vegetarian Comida Mexicana I’ve always loved Mexican food & was excited to try Flacos since it is an all vegan Mexican joint that friends raved about. I went with the taquito plate. It was $ 9.81 coming with two taquitos, a salad w/dressing, choice of beans & brown rice. I went with the refried beans made w/pinto beans & organic olive oil. I had a choice between mild or hot avocado salsa. I enjoy spicy food since I had my taste buds burned off in India years ago so figured I could handle the heat so opted for the hot salsa. The taquito is flavored soy protein wrapped in a corn tortilla & fried. It had a crisp firm texture & was flavorful. Both taquitos came smothered in the hot avocado salsa. Even though I enjoy spicy food the hot was quite spicy & wish they had a medium option. I will probably opt for mild next time to see the difference. I’m glad it came w/salad & dressing as well as the refried beans & rice. It was a tasty & filling meal. On Tues you can get a dollar off the taquito plate & on Thurs you can get a dollar off the taco plate. They are closed on Mon. I look forward to coming back to try the taco plate.

Rolled tacos, flautas, taquitos, whatever you wanna call em, they are rarely anyone’s first choice at a taqueria or restaurant. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve eaten my fair share of taquitos in my life, but the extremely dry meat that you have to smother in sour cream and guacamole just to get it down, just doesn’t sound very appealing to me. But let me tell you, at Flacos, these are NOT those taquitos. I would go a thousand miles just for taquito Tuesday. They are soo perfectly crispy and the soy«meat» inside is extremely moist, soft, and flavorful. I wouldn’t go as far as saying they taste like chicken but I like them even more that they have their own unique flavor that is absolutely delicious. One time I ate 6 taquitos all by myself and even though I couldn’t move, I still didn’t regret that glorious decision. I’ve also tried the tacos, tamales, and pozole and they were good. I just didn’t really like the pozole. I wish they had the soy chunks inside the soup too. The tamales have a yummy mole filling with soy protein, olives, and potatoes. Sooo good! All in all, this is one of my favorite spots in the east bay and I can’t imagine anyone not liking this place, vegan or not. Warning: the hot salsa is VERY hot. I love spicy foods and don’t even wince at the thought of peppers but man, their hot salsa is really hot! I usually get half hot half mild.

My wife worked not far away a few years ago. So when we planned a trip to cali we had to stop by. I did not understand her excitement till I tried one with the hot avocado salsa. We got six before but before we left the parking lot we had to go back and grab some more. Amazing talking to one of the workers I really do hope that they bring a location to New York. Flacos is amazing! I immediately loved the vibe when we walked in — the guy who helped us was incredibly chill and friendly and gave us a quick run-down of what they serve because it was our first time here. The space isn’t super big but there’s enough tables so that it’s not crowded and they have an outdoor seating area thats perfect for warmer days. It’s incredible — everything on the menu is vegan and everything is delicious! I ate 3 whole tacos(they are a bit small) in approximately 15 minutes(I’m normally a super slow eater) and was craving at least 2 – 3 more. They use faux meat, veggies, beans, and sauces and the flavor is good! I would suggest getting the full plate when you go, which includes rice and beans. I’ll definitely be coming back to support!

Very good taquitos, just OK tacos, excellent spicy salsa, mediocre salad, bland rice, tasty black beans. Cool that it’s vegan but I’m not a fan of fake meat products. Came here for lunch on a Tuesday. Ordered at 1230 and food didn’t come out until 1pm. We ordered two plates(one taquitos plate and one taco/taquito plate). I had to return to work so I asked for the food to go since it took so long Liked the outdoor seating(it’s in the corner of a parking lot). I would return for a jar of the salsa and maybe a few of those taquitos but everything else was just okay and definitely not worth waiting half an hour for.

Flacos, you let me down. I’ve been trying to eat more plant-based lately and wanted to try vegan restaurants in the bay area. When I was in South Berkeley to see an old friend act in a play’s finale, I knew it would be a great opportunity to try it. I got a taco and a horchata. The taco was pretty small, and the meat was made out of textured soy protein. I actually enjoyed the texture and the sauce it was doused in. On top were cabbage, radish, cilantro, onions, and an avocado sauce. The avocado sauce looked really off-putting at first because of its bright greenish color, but it tasted amazing. I can see why they use this sauce as the dipping sauce for the taquitos they sell here. The taco had a nice balance of ingredients, flavor, and texture. However, I don’t think this taco is $ 3.54. It’s definitely a little overpriced for the size and ingredients. The horchata was not horchata. It was almost tap water. It was unbelievably sweet to make up for the lack of rice milk and cinnamon put in it. Oh, and it was $ 3.34. The price, size, ingredients, and quality don’t add up and that’s why I have to give them a low rating.

In light of vegetarian inclinations during Lent, let me first warn you that Flacos is such a delicious indulgence, I personally don’t think it could count as part of the restrictive Lent regimen when it is even yummier than carnivorous Mexican food. It is quite pricey even though soy protein should theoretically be more energy-efficient than meat, but that’s from an ecological and not a marketing or culinary perspective. I got 2 taquitos and a taco, which made a decent lunch for $ 6.40 total. Both were mind-blowing – it has the bold flavors and inexplicable deliciousness of legit Mexican food i.e. taco trucks from Oakland and pretty much anywhere in SD. The taquitos has that fresh crispiness, and I guess you can feel slightly less guilty to know it’s due to vegetarian greasiness. The setting almost reminds of Brazil Café: colorful Latin décor in a small food stand in the style of street food. There is a lot with limited parking, and street parking in the area isn’t too bad. In conclusion, there are no excuses not to check out this place: it’s devilishly delicious, accessible, and vegan-friendly(yes they even have gluten-free options o. o) Flocks to Flacos should be a hashtag P:
