This place is really good! I was here as part of a large dinner party for two friends who are getting married. The restaurant let us use their large back room, at no extra charge. The room let us have a nice, music and noise-free, place to eat our meal without bothering other patrons, and without having noise interfere with our conversation(at least one in our party is hearing-impaired)… Since we weren’t sure if we all wanted spicy or mild, we got many of the dishes mild, with additional spicy sauce for those who wanted it hotter. The«Mo-Mos,» small dumplings that came with vegetarian, lamb, and I believe, chicken, fillings, came with a very tasty sauce. The chicken tikka masala was good, as was a vegetarian noodle dish whose name eludes me, and the lamb rogan josh was very good. I enjoyed the sticky rice and basmati rice we had, as well as variety of naan we got. The coconut naan(naan bread with coconut flakes), a kind of sweet naan with cherry in it(basmi naan?), and plain ol’ naan and garlic naan were all soft and nice to eat. We also got some mango ice cream at the end. It was tasty and nice — who doesn’t love ice cream? It was a nice ending to a nice meal. I was able to use my Groupon($ 12 for $ 20 worth of food) as partial payment for the group, and there’s a similar deal on here — $ 10 for $ 20. Just ask for spicy if you’re not sure, otherwise some of the dishes can be a bit bland. And definitely try the specials, especially the coconut or cherry naan. :-)

The only redeeming thing about my meal was that I didn’t need to drive home. The chicken tikka masala was revolting. I was wondering if they could have added some spinach to the palak paneer. It was uneventful. I will not be returning.

This was an absurdly good meal. W My husband and I love Indian food and after eating here we are having a hard time going back to our old places. This place is delicious.

Food was delicious! We ordered a ton of dishes, favorites were the goat curry, Himalayan biryani, and the roasted eggplant with peas dish(forgot the name). Courses arrived quickly and were piping hot. The soup starter is delicious and it arrives AFTER you’ve ordered, not heavy at all. It’s apparent this is a family owned business, I definitely felt the warm welcome.

This restaurant is beautifully decorated and has a very warm, peaceful atmosphere. The waitresses are quick and both times I’ve been here the food come out relatively fast. The meals I’ve had here are so flavorful and unforgettable, I’d proudly declare this place one of the best restaurants in Berkeley!

Came in here yesterday for another Christmas dinner. This time is take out. They were very prompt. Didn’t have me sitting there waiting forever and a day like the last time I was here. And the food was so much tastier too. I ordered a lamb dish and it was pretty tender. The portion was pretty generous as well. Thanks for making my Christmas dinner this year a yummy one.

I find myself here over and over again. It’s not the best in the world but it’s pretty solid. The service is kind of awkward but the food is good. I like to sit in the window seat. The place has never been too crowded.

Flavors were off. Bean dish we got tasted undercooked. Everything except the Naan was just bordering on mediocre at best.

The Groupon deal is great and if you check in on Unilocal you get a 10% discount. That being said Jane and I have eaten here several times over the last five years, sometimes with friends. I have no Idea how it has escaped the Unilocal review from me. The food here is very tasty we’ve had almost every thing that doesn’t have red meat. The menu is fairly extensive and contain many chicken, fish and vegetarian choices. If you like your dishes spicy like we do be sure to let the waitress know. They are all very helpful and friendly but will need a reminder. I don’t think they believe us when we say we like our food HOT. This last visit we tried the Pumpkin Kofta and the Chicken Coconut Curry. Both very good but the Pumpkin Kofta was the star attraction, truly unique. A little spicy and from the first to the last bite a complex assortment of flavors come through. I usually enjoy new flavor experiences. This was not the exception :) The chicken curry was delicious but could have used a little spice to bring up the coconut flavor. This restaurant is always clean and welcoming. The décor and music complete the experience. This is a great place for families, groups, a meal with friends or a nice meal for a couple.

We’ve had dinner here on occasion for about 5 years now. This is my first review and I’m sorry I waited so long. On this particular visit, our dinner was once again delicious. That should be enough to get you in their doors. But here’s a little something extra: They play music that is ethnically correct. THANKYOU! Tastefully decorated and well kept. It’s an old place, there are imperfections. But your table will be clean as well as the floors, walls, ceiling, etc. Free, Private parking for patrons in parking lot next to restaurant(in Berkeley! I know!) Plates are warmed. Who does that anymore?! Really nice touch. Order an entrée and you get a cup of lentil soup. Real comfort food… yuuummm. We tried the Cocopine smoothie. Also very good. Coconut and pineapple fruits are upfront and the yogurt wasn’t overpowering. Perfect blend. For dinner we had the Pumpkin Curry and Chicken Korma. Also an order of Coconut Naan. Dinner was very fragrant, flavorful and filling. Chai tea after and we relaxed a moment. Our waitress was quick and friendly. We did use a Groupon. This only added to the positive dinning experience. Dinning area can accommodate small and large groups. Dishes range from those with meat to meatless. Naturally.

This place is within walking distance from North Berkeley Bart station. I welcomed the water the waitress brought and gulped it down because I walked over a couple hours straight from the skate shop. I admit I was a little out of it because of exhaustion and I made the hostess laugh when I clumsily scoot the chair closer to the table. A good solution to help bring me back to my senses is good food. They give you a cup of complimentary mild tasting lentil soup. I like my freebies especially when they taste good. My friend was adventurous and ordered from their special menu. I forgot the entire name of the entrée my friend ordered but it was Bhutanese and very spicy. He also ordered the coconut naan. The coconut naan was fantastic. I couldn’t believe something as simple as flakes of coconut mixed in would make naan taste extra special. There was plenty of vegetarian entrees to order from. I am a creature of habit and ordered the paneer tikka masala that came with a side of brown rice. It was on point and the sauce was delicious and creamy. We had good sized portions and I had enough to take home with me. No room for dessert but maybe next time. Trying that coconut naan makes me want to try new things so perhaps when I come back next time, I will order something from their special menu.

We only tried Himalayan Flavors for lunch, and were surprised to find it almost empty. Maybe because there is no lunch menu? We remedied that by ordering 1 appetizer &1 main dish to split between 2 people, which ended up being plenty of food. It did take a while to get our food, but that was because their Momos(Tibetan dumplings) are made fresh — and they were deliciously worth waiting for! The curried chick peas were also yummy, quite similar to my own recipe but without tamarind & with extra garam masala. I hope to return in the future so I can try more dishes & maybe bump this up to 5 stars. (Sorry, no accessibility notes — will update next time!)

I just moved here and I’ve had a lot of Indian food on the east coast, so I’ve been looking for a new joint in the area. This place is very good. It’s not the best Indian food I’ve ever had, but it’s very good and I would definitely go back. The value is also really good. You get a decent sized portion for a good price. Staff and service were extremely nice and helpful when some people in my group weren’t familiar with Indian food and had a lot of questions. They were very patient with us.

Slick décor, friendly service, and plenty of parking makes this a convenient stop for some Himalayan. But small portions and kind of expensive price tag(unless you jump on one of their many social media deals) leaves a bit to be desired. We went straight for the goat curry, which when it came out amounted to about 6 small pieces, the rest being a glob of sauce sauce. We also found a long hair, but we couldn’t determine if it was from the goat or a cook. The vegetarian dishes were a bit more high in quantity, but the dish was quite bland overall — salty, yes, but complexity in flavors and spices, not so much. The naan wasn’t fully toasted and a bit cold inside. Cue the sad trombone. We loved the super nice wait staff, so we’ll probably stop by again, but they really need to up their game or maybe we just got all the wrong dishes. We’ll see next time.

An Indian food craving led me and the hubby to Himalayan Flavors on my birthday. And oh my God what a treat it was!!! The ambience: Clean surroundings, funky décor, a well stocked bar(from the looks of it), and a half open kitchen where you can see the chefs do their stuff. The food: Amazing! The complimentary Chana Dal was exactly like my mom makes. 10 stars for that! We started with Chicken Momos, which were Oh-so-good! Then came the main course — Buttered mushroom chicken: Its just the most amazing butter chicken with a mushroom bonus! What else could you want? Chilli chicken: They nailed it!!! This was an authentic Indo-Chinese dish, exactly like you get in India. It’s a miracle I didn’t cry out of joy and nostalgia. Rice: It was included with the two dishes above. Very very good rice. Lightly sauteed with cumin. Naan: we ordered one of the plain and one of the garlic/cilantro. Light, fluffy, soft, yeasty. Enough said. Extra points for the spicy flavors. You get an option of mild, medium and spicy. We, being true Indians, ordered spicy. And oh it was! I didn’t expect it to be so but I guess they’re true to their roots! Staff/service: Very very friendly and courteous. Our food came pretty fast. As soon as we were done with our appetizer, the main course arrived. The whole experience was an absolute breeze. There is absolutely no fault I can find with this establishment. It’s incredibly amazing. Do try them out And buy the $ 10 for $ 20 deal! Its worth it! Thank you Himalayan Flavors for the amazing food. Will be returning again soon!

Food was delicious! I gave an extra star for the portion size and flavor of the chicken dishes(: My mom, sis, and I ordered: 1. Lamb momo: I wouldn’t complain about the flavor too much, but I’ve definitely had better. This one was stuffed on the lighter side 2. Chicken korma(mild): rich, creamy, and flavorful 3. Chicken tikka masala(medium): perfect amount of spice and seasoning. Chicken was a bit on the dry side 4. Coco smoothy: we’ve never had anything like this so I have nothing to compare it to. It reminds me of coconut yogurt! Interesting for a drink because it’s quite thick. I liked it but my sis and mom didn’t care too much for it 5. Plain naan: REALLYGOOOOD!!! 6. Complimentary soup: excellent! I will attempt to replicate this muahaha **they’ll only allow use of either the check in discount OR the Unilocal voucher. I think a read a review that said they were given both discounts(maybe we weren’t lucky today.)

Had the tandoori chicken, brown rice, garlic naan, mango lassi. Wonderful! The tandoori chicken came out on a metal and wood platter that was extremely hot, keeping the food warm. The chicken was exquisitely spiced and an absolute delight. Wonderful customer service: the people who own and operate the restaurant are Nepalese and are very, very nice. They brought out a soup that looked very plain but was delicious. Very good prices, and they offer various specials.
