Jolaine Beal, MD, MPH

Dr. Beal helped me with many issues when my own obstetrician’s office didn’t. I needed some tests done and for some reason it’s nearly impossible to get some doctors (like OBs) to do adequate testing to get to the root cause of problems. Dr. Beal was very helpful in ordering certain tests for me and even took the time to write me regarding the results. She always follows up and doesn’t leave you hanging. She also has a very pleasant bedside manner. I have found One Medical to be an oasis in a dessert of difficult doctors offices and long wait times.

Dr. Beal has to be the in the top 5% of awesome primary care doctors. She is calm and confident and explains the whole exam + diagnosis process. She has great communication skills and is very friendly and knowledgable. She really didn’t seem rushed during the appointment and made sure she had covered all bases.

Dr. Beal is a really fantastic primary care doctor. She has provided care for me prenatally and postpartum, and has also provided care for my toddler. When others doctors left me confused, she brought me clarity and direction with consideration and compassion. She has always been very thorough and is extremely knowledgeable. There is no doubt with Dr. Beal that you are getting exceptional care. I would highly recommend her.

I’m a new patient at the Larkspur branch of One Medical Group. Prior to my first visit with my primary care provider I needed a quick visit to renew a prescription. Dr. Beal was the provider available the day of my appointment, so I saw her by chance, not by choice. Dr. Beal was friendly, and clearly knowledgeable — that said, her ability to relate to me as a person was sorely lacking. Her interactions with me were patronizing, bordering on condescending — frankly, she treated me as though I didn’t have the intellectual chops to discuss my own health, my behaviors, and needs. The questions she asked, the suggestions she made — all were cheerful, used small words, and were simplistic — I’ve gotten better health advice from watching the Today Show. Dr. Beal is the classic physician stereotype: technical expertise and no inter-​personal skills. I can only hope that she is savvy enough to look for reviews from her patients, reflect on their feedback and evaluate what she might need to do differently to round out her people skills.
