I ordered two rolls, the Samurai and Cherry Blossom, and one was GODAWFUL. The Samurai was really good and the fish seemed and tasted fresh, but the Cherry Blossom was just god awful; I honestly think that they made the roll in advance(maybe they messed up an order or something) and gave it to me cold and dry. The rice was colder and harder than the rice in the Samurai roll and god was the tuna on top dry, cold, and pasty — it was the worst roll of sushi I had ever eaten. If indeed they gave me a leftover roll, then I would be seriously disappointed, but either way even if they did not I don’t plan on revisiting any time soon.

Literally the worst sushi I ever had. Contemplated not finishing it. I have never done that in my life(I’m a clean plate club kid, and not a picky eater.) Save your money. Hope I don’t get sick.

Katsumi Sushi is awesome! I’ve been coming here on several Thursday nights with friends. Their sushi isn’t outstanding, but it’s definitely good for what you pay. One time, I ordered the Alaska roll and split it with a friend. The roll itself was surprisingly big and tasted pretty good. I really like their rice specials. I don’t eat beef and pork, so I’m limited to the chicken teriyaki and chicken katsu specials, but they’re both good. They include a lot of meat and come with some pieces of sushi, and they leave you feeling pretty full. I ordered the chicken yaki udon once. Like everything else I’ve had here, it was filling, but in this case, I didn’t think it tasted that great.

Pretty forgettable sushi made for students at students prices and student quality. It’s not bad, but like everything in this center(I refuse to use its nickname) it’s meh.

It was fine for a one time meal because I was hungry, but no thanks if I had a choice to come here again.

Meh, and it’s hard to say more than that. The food wasn’t that great, especially for the price. My stomach was upset for the rest of the day. No plans to go back. It’s a little ridiculous that they charge a credit card fee for orders under $ 20.

Not bad! Definitely the cleanest restaurant in the area with nice LCD screens. I only ordered the California Deluxe, for $ 8, I got 8(on the smaller side) pieces for the roll. It had a good portion of avocados and unagis mix on top which I appreciate. It’s still a little pricey for the portion size, but they do have a good selection of sushi rolls!

Recently came here for dinner. The restaurant doesn’t seem to be one of the more popular ones in Asian Ghetto, and it wasn’t crowded on a Friday night. Overall, I liked the restaurant, although there were certain things that could be improved. The restaurant gives off a slightly«unprofessional» vibe. I can’t really pinpoint what it is; the cashiers seem aloof, and I noticed people walking in/out of the kitchen area frequently. Then again, this is in Asian Ghetto, and I’ve seen much worse. I do have to commend them on the quick service; we had our food within five minutes of ordering it. As for the food, they give a good-sized portion for the price. The combo comes with a small salad and a few pieces of sushi. They also give you a lot of rice and meat; my chicken teriyaki was definitely enough for dinner. It doesn’t taste too bad, but it’s mostly Americanized Asian food. I would also recommend the Unagi(eel). They give a lot of eel, and in my opinion, it tastes a lot better than chicken. It is a bit pricier though, so if you order the eel, it would probably run you something like $ 10 – 11. I won’t be reviewing the sushi, as I haven’t tried enough to give it an accurate rating.(Look out for a future update!) Good experience overall. Even though it’s not a stellar restaurant, they serve good food, and it doesn’t seem to suffer from long lines(yet — I suspect this may change in the future). I’ll probably be coming back in the future, and I’m excited to see how Katsumi will grow.

This is not high-end sushi, but it’s much better quality than many other sushi restaurants in town. The fish is fresh, the prices are decent and, most importantly, the sushi is delicious. Maybe some of their rolls are a little on the expensive side(especially considering most of their clientele are students), but they also have some great specials that are easier on your wallet — and they’ve got a lot of reasonably priced options on their non-sushi menu, too. It’s tiny, but clean and bright, and the staff are super friendly and actually want you to enjoy yourself in their restaurant. I’ve already been a bunch of times, and I’ll be coming back again. A good sushi spot that’s easy to get to downtown, and worth checking out.

I actually enjoyed their food here. I ordered the lunch special and have no clue what I ordered but it tasted delicious. Maybe next time I should ask what the lunch special is so I can be able to order it again lol.

Time: 2:43pm/69°F sunny Purpose: I’ve been in the Berkeley area trying corner couple of prospective clients. This place pops up .7 mile on Unilocal app. Hehehe, I’m right here! Fantastic beautiful no sweat! Ambiance: Really plain décor here. Just walls repainted pastel greenish with white trimmings. Sushi counter sits five while other area just regular tables with mid back high chairs. Rest of the place, a Snapple fridge, three Samsung panel menu display screens and ersatz linoleum floor tiles. Seems nothing was re-done from the days of Berkeley Sushi House. So kitschy with no minimal effort done to it. Feels very cheesy and bare even chairs are squeaky when turn either direction. I guess WD-40 are not friends with Katsumi. Staff: Two girls about mid to late 20s. One cashier the other chef. The chef don’t even know how to make a certain roll when guest order it. Too late for me or else, I walk. Order was place and paid already. Watch her ask owner on how to make it. Unbeknownst to me, owner was sitting on table inline from my right. She saw me snapping pics, but I just had to do it. It’s for my fellow Unilocalers own good we’re talking about here. Later, I learn that its not Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, but Chinese owner. Speaking taishanese with some Mandarin thrown in. Their friends came in raided their fridge for drinks. Of course, it was on the house for them! Well, well, I’ll be dam! Makes me feel like I was the uninvited intrusive guest at the time. Thank goodness a couple of students came in. At least now I have company. Geeeesh!!! Cleanliness: Grade B, Snapple fridge was a mess. Had mildew and browning on corners. What did they store there other than beverages? Not sure if I want a drink from it, without rinsing top good. Opt for water instead. When I ask, they seem shocked. Like how dare you we’re in middle of drought. Alright, I know that and just spend some funds here too. Wish I can snap a pic of that too, but she’ll be thinking the obvious. Take my word for it! Eats/Drinks: Highway roll $ 5.95 had listed description making it sound so good to past up. Deep fried spicy tuna, avacado and unagi sauce was the order it was listed. What I got, was a clump of hard crunchy rice fried in some weird tasting oil. Not even sure what type of batter it was dip in. Looks like fried tofu curd strips wrapping the roll. Only edible thing was in the center, spicy tuna. Unagi sauce for presentation looks like a baby in kindergarten done it. I wanted to toss it back to her side of counter. There wasn’t any effort in making the roll. You eat what they made for you and f*ck off is their attitude here. Main Features: Hawaii roll, samurai roll, enoki mushroom in beef roll and bento box. Products/Services: Nigir/2pcs $ 3.95, rice bowls, udon, sandwich, roll sushi, veggie roll, hand rolls, miso soup, agedashi tofu, gyoza, seaweed salad, edamame, tempura, fries. CC is $ 20 minimum/under is $.50¢ added. Bento lunch special daily $ 7.95. Substitute fries is $ 2 extra. Assorted cold beverages. Punch Lines: Snooty service, amateur chef, not knowledgeable, unsure of offerings, low grade fish, powder wasabi, no hot drinks, weak drink selection, average seating, laid back, plain décor, light bites, slow service, sleeper, pretentious, quite bland, not as great, go elsewhere, $ 20 min for CC. Tradeoffs: When a similar type of business takes over. It somewhat has to be better than the former right? Not here just opposite. Final Thoughts: You see, I’ve high standards when it comes to sushi places. Again, if chef uses a plastic handle knife I walk, wooden I stay. Can’t go on to explain everything, it’ll take a chapter. So, when I saw chef using a pairing knife to cut rolls. I said to myself yep, no sushi training or schooling involved. Funny thing here is, they don’t seem to care about hiding their pretentious Chinese dialect or ethnic character. I know all too well about hitting it big. Having your own business feeling all mighty inside want people to look up at you. Place is just the tip of iceberg right now. Katsumi fail to impress with their offerings and services. TJ’s sushi section would be as close as it can get. Now I’ve to wonder about those solid 5 star reviews! Lastly, count your change. My total was $ 6.48 after taxes. Gave her $ 10 and she returns $ 3.50 assuming not everyone likes pennies. You’ve been warn!

The cleanest restaurant in Asian Ghetto so far! Finally there’s a new Sushi place in the area! The Katsumi Roll and Unagi fried rice are so delicious! The interior is newly renovated, and the fresh environment really makes me want to stay and enjoy the food inside, rather than to order food(to-go). The food are tasty and Not as pricey compared to places in the downtown area. I would highly recommend everyone to check it out!
