Makris is a very cute mom-and-pop shop hidden away between other stores on university avenue. The food is average but the owners, an older couple, is very nice and always makes sure that the food gets to you fast. I had their pancake– it was really yummy and fluffy! I also asked for their kimchi burrito and it was only okay. I think it depends on what you order here, from other reviews it seems that it could be hit or miss. I would usually give these types of places 3 stars but the service deserves 4 stars

This place is my go to greasy spoon for those mornings when you wake up with that all too familiar hunger. Let mom and Han solve your problems with their bountiful coffee, and even better Korean-American breakfasts. I always leave Makri’s satisfied and happy and though I’d hate for this to become a super busy spot they deserve all the business! Ps don’t forget to buy a jar of kimchi to take home — I always go for the large

I had a taste for some grits one saturday morning and wanted to go berkeley since berkeley has tons of great restaurants and diners based on what I see when i drive through. I came across this place on Unilocal and decided to go based on them having grits and the reviews. Morning for me turned to afternoon and to my surprise at 150, they were still open with an hour left to go. Good for me, but bad for my tummy. The service was great. The lady who seems to be the owner is very nice and kind of gives you the«home» type feel. But the food? Umm how about, the grits were basically cold and microwaved up for my meal. The sausage and bacon I got was pre-cooked from earlier and simply warmed up for my meal. The only thing fresh were the hot cakes and the eggs… thank God. I wouldn’t go back here in the afternoon due to the fear of getting the microwavable dishes. Maybe the morning time is better. Good luck.

A couple of good things about this place: it’s a small mom-and-pop shop with a wide selection of breakfast and lunch items– keep in mind the early closing time at 3pm. The grill is right up front and you can watch as your food is being prepared. The service was great. And the food price is pretty student-friendly(aka cheap). Unfortunately, it didn’t really live up to Unilocal expectations for me. I guess I may not have ordered the right thing, but I had the tuna melt, which was too salty for my liking. My boyfriend had the bulgogi sandwich which was also a little too salty. Other than, the food was alright and not sure if I’ll be back to try the breakfast items even though that’s what the common consensus on Unilocal is for what to get.

I was looking for a place to grab breakfast and found this café right by where I was walking. If you weren’t looking for it you might miss it. It’s a small space with a few group tables, tables along the wall and a long counter that has seating. I really like it. I like supporting mom-and-pop shops. The couple working here feel like they’re just cooking me breakfast as my mom would. And they’re very sweet people. Plus, I was looking for gluten-free options and they have hash brown and white rice options. The food was flavorful and came out fast. I’d love to come back again.

A super cozy diner that serves classic breakfast, lunch, and dinner entrees– but with a Korean twist. This place feels like home when the adorable couple who own the place invite you in and take your order. They’ve got excellent specials and are very reasonably priced. In a really convenient location on University in the middle of it all in Berkeley, this restaurant is a perfect place to slip away and enjoy a meal between classes or on your lunch break.

«Jerry: I told you to have breakfast, you should’ve had breakfast! George: I couldn’t have breakfast, it was lunchtime! The three hour time difference threw me.» — Seinfeld Da Grub: Bulgogi & caramelized onions, Kim chee, 2 eggs over easy, crispy hash browns, 3 cups of coffee… $ 9SWEET! Da Scene: Unassuming little dive of a diner w/a Korean twist that keeps neighbors & college kids coming back. In addition to standard diner fare, find Korean morsels peppered into the menu. Da Service: Always quick & friendly, mom & pops place, kinda like eating at your Auntie’s house!

Good breakfast and lunch! Used to come here with my buddies when we were in highschool. Now and then I decide to come and eat here. The prices are decent and the foods good, with a nice atmosphere. Had an excellent French Toast meal this morning with eggs, sausage, coffee, and OJ!

Opens early in the morning, good scrambles. I like the hash browns. They have kimchi on the side.

Had their bulgogi beef breakfast, which consisted of stir fried bulgogi with onions, kimchi, toast, 2 eggs, and hashbrowns. Tasted amazing. Very nice couple who owns the place and cooks everything in front of you.

This place is adorable and wholesome. The vegi wrap, Han’s hash, vegi egg sandwich, and avocado & cheese scramble are all must try dishes. Coffee comes immediately and free refills are plentiful! The restaurant is small and unpretentious, with a wife and husband working in harmony to deliver excellent food and service. My favorite part? Free side of home-made kimchi with every meal! They are quick with your order, in spite of it just being the two of them. I wouldn’t recommend coming with more than 4 – 6 people, the establishment is fairly small.

My first visit here and it was a decent meal for the right price. It’s a little bit of a hole in the wall, let’s just say calling it a café isn’t descriptive(I imagine café’s to have cute little tables with white curtains, flowers, etc… but *buzz!!* nope! But hey, the Bulgogi burrito is original and flavorful so The Professor gives it a Thumbs Up(Guys: just don’t be taking your lady love there, that’s all I’m sayin’, it’s not a darling morning after breakfast café).

You would think that a place that has«Café» in its name would serve good coffee. Well, unfortunately, the coffee here is not great. First, they don’t serve any speciality drinks like lattes or mochas – it’s just plain coffee. And second, the coffee doesn’t taste very good. But let’s move on. I got The Denver, which was an omelette plate that came with hash browns and toast. The omelette was quite good and had fresh ingredients. How do I know this? Because I saw them chop the veggies and make my omelette as I was sitting at the bar. The hash browns were solid too, but the toast was just average and slightly too crispy/burnt. Service here was great since there weren’t that many people dining when I came in for a late breakfast. But unfortunately, the lack of decent coffee is kind of a deal breaker for me.

Got there early in the morning for breakfast with a friend. Got their bulgogi burrito. Definitely a good call, the meat was nicely done and seasoned, and the hashbrowns in them were fantastic. Soft but crispy. The little cups of kimchi were very tasty too.

Came here on a weekday at lunchtime to grab the bulgogi burrito. The front of the restaurant is really unassuming. I literally never knew it was here despite having walked by it so many times in the past. But it’s actually quite a cute(and rather empty) diner inside. I only briefly skimmed the pictures and reviews, so I was expecting a bulgogi burrito like the ones sold by HRD in SF. But they were really different! One thing I really loved about the burrito was it had a layer of hashbrowns in it. So delicious. But I wasn’t so impressed with the veggies and bulgogi. It was definitely not the bulgogi I’m used to from KBBQ. It was more of a thick, chunky cut. And there was just this overall strange taste to the veggies. Can’t put my finger on it though. Overall it was crazy filling, and I opted not to finish the entire thing. A nice food adventure, but definitely not something I’d go out of my way to get again.

The bulgogi breakfast wrap is a formidable thing, full of beef, crisp hashbrowns, kimchi, and eggs. While in ways too salty, it is clearly the mongoose to the king cobra’s hangover, the Riki Tiki Taki of wraps.
