Though I went to a different bagel place one morning before heading to manhattan bagel, I’m kind of glad the other spot was a bust(no parking due to church next door teeming with patrons). Manhattan bagel has signage on the front that says something else but once you’re inside and have a beverage you’ll see the manhattan bagel brand name on your cup. The store appears to be family owned and operated. The staff were really friendly and on top of their game. The iced coffee isn’t bitter and is a crazy value for like $ 3. I had an egg and cheese bagel with lettuce tomato avocado added on at $.50 a pop. It was still a great deal. Bagels were fresh, though the jalapeño bagel had little to no spice(that I noticed). Parking a bit annoying as early as 10am but you can find street parking a block north pretty easily. Worth a visit. The lox bagel is lox plentiful and comes with an adorably tiny side of potato salad.

I’m a life-long east coaster and didn’t expect to find decent bagels out here, but these definitely satisfied my craving. There’s no replacement for a real ny bagel but these won’t disappoint. The lox are very good too!

horribly rude no customer service. The owner and two young girls that were either visiting or working there, were in their own world with no regard for customers. They treated us as if we were imposing on there time. The food looked very unappetizing and not great at all. Needless to say we did not buy anything. And I will never return. Were in this area every weekend(There sign says 4th street bagels cause They probable dont Want people to know how bad They aré and post it.?)

I’ve always enjoyed their Ranchero wraps for breakfast for many years, portion size is good and always tasty. Today all my previous good experience has flush down the drain. The Wrap got one size smaller than it used to, a lot less egg more than half of the usual portion has gone(pasteurize egg liquid that is microwaved) and the oh so important sauce is missing… so disappointed !! It just doesn’t taste the same anymore !!! When I notice there were left over eggs on their plastic tub, I knew I’m in for a bad experience. For a $ 7 wrap I expected a lot more, note to self do not go there again

Best on the west coast. Great selection Wish I was closer. Always come here when in the Bay Area. Pumpernickel my favorite hubby’s is jalapeño. Cinnamon raisin loved by both.

Note: This place is now called 4th Street Bagel. I went in for a quick bite on my lunch break. It was cold outside and this is one of the few places in the neighborhood the offer food fast and have indoor seating. The menu consisted of what you would normally find at a bagel shop. Bagels(duh), sandwiches, salads, pastries, etc. Since I wasn’t feeling breakfast-y, I ordered a bagel dog that they nicely toasted for me. Since it was so cold out, I wanted some warm soup to go with my lunch. To my disappointment, when I asked what the soup of the day was, they didn’t have any! A few people stumbled in and asked the same thing but left soupless. The bagel dog left me satisfied and full. This place will definitely be on my list of go to places when I am in need of a quick lunch. Can’t wait to go back and try their breakfast items too!

I was soo embarrassed to reject my microwaved breakfast bagel, sorry about that! but I just don’t do microwaved anything! Ewww! Didn’t see that coming. Seriously, it is unhealthy, please heat the bagels another way… The cinnamon rasin bagel was delish and hit the spot. The bagels are very tasty and the service is kind and quick. I will be back for the non-microwaved goodies.

I’m never disappointed with this place. I think they call themselves Fourth Street Bagel now. I usually order the Tribecca Turkey or the BLT. The breakfast sandwiches can get a little greasy but hey, some people like that! They use large bagels and don’t skimp on the egg and sausage.

Worst. Bagel. Ever. I didn’t think it was possible. Ordered a breakfast bagel and threw half of it out. I guess there’s a first for everything… Imagine, me, throwing out a bagel. Weird. Hey if you like spongy yellow yoga mat on bread, be my guest, but I will never step foot in this place again. Horrible, horrible bagel sandwich kind of ruined my morning. Yeah, first world problems.

Someone asked me about my favorite bagel place. Well I like salt bagels call me weird but they are my favorite. Kind of like a pretzel but without the mustard and add a little bit of butter or cream cheese. I have Unilocaled about other bagel places in Oakland but for the salt bagel the best I have found is «Manhattan Bagel» in Berkeley on 4th street. Why, because the salt to bagel ratio is good. If you are one that does not like to much salt you can remove some off the top. The bagel dough is very important it needs to be like a bagel and not like a fluffy piece of bread. Go and try it out for yourself.

The bagels here are very tasty and fresh, but… My husband and I both tried out their bagel breakfast sandwiches(pastrami and philly beef) and they were kinda gross. The sandwiches we’re served on bagels that were fresh and tasty, the meats were very gristly, the whipped up egg was GREENish and weird looking(we took it off) and there wasn’t much flavor to either sandwich. My daughter had a regular bagel with cream cheese and her very simple dish tasted 100 times better than what we had. The sandwiches we’re expensive, bland, fattening and not worth it.

Manhattan Bagel is a «new» spot for me. they boil, and then baked their bagel. as usual bought a few home. didn’t order a spread here. found out later spreads are pricey. eats: bagels @.99(onion, everything, garlic –loved the chewiness after the bagels are toasted. nice flavor from the condiment flavoring crumbs: –would return. –better than the average bagel(house, einstein).

I work on 4th street and on my lunch breaks when I want something pretty quick and not ridiculously priced this is the place I go. It isn’t the greatest but it isn’t the worst. The service could be better. They just seem a little annoyed when you order but it’s not so bad that I won’t go ever again. I got a Cuban chicken sandwich one time though and it was pretty soggy and the bread was really gross but I got a breakfast sandwich today and I enjoyed it a lot.

Rude ish service. They don’t follow directions yet give you a rude look if you don’t tip. Selection is weak. Never have plain bagels in stock. Bagels they DO have are tasty. But stay away from any version of their sandwiches, as they are tasteless. Stick with cream cheese.

It seems that we hardly ever have bagels anymore and when we do, it’s like a special breakfast bagel occasion. That’s why I like to take the opportunity to take advantage of the situation, by coming down to 4th Street on a sunny weekend morning. We stroll along, picking up our coffee from Peet’s and our bagels from Manhattan. Window shopping after, you know. We both order the Jalapeño Bagel with Lox and the works. Sometimes it’s an everything bagel and other times it’s onion, but it’s always the lox with the capers, tomato and red onion that we both can agree on. They have sunny little seats outside, so you can enjoy your mini breakfast bagel lazy weekend kinda day. ;)

Not bad especially since 4th st doesn’t have a lot of places that sells bagel sandwiches. Prices are ok that’s why I decided on an overall 3.5 stars. $ 4.99 for breakfast bagel and 7.99 for lox Fav: Thin bagel breakfast sandwich — egg whites, cheese and bacon Muffins! Moist and crunchy on top Ok: Lox and bagel — I had better Breakfast steak sandwich with onion bagel. Tasty but lacking salt? I should add ketchup next time But overall I will definitely come here regularly. Fast, friendly and efficient customer service

I tried the pumpkin bagel: It’s actually very good: it has that addictive chewiness that makes you want to eat another one right away.

New York style bagels in the Bay area? You would think that I was joking but Manhattan Bagel offers the closest thing that you’ll find to a New York bagel in San Francisco. Manhattan Bagel will help you understand why it’s part of a New Yorker’s daily diet. At Manhattan Bagel, their bagels have the light chewy texture that is hard to achieve which makes New York bagels so delicious. If your bagels are dense and heavy, you’re not eating a bagel but a brick with a hole in it. They have a wide variety from plain, onion, garlic, sesame, cranberry, pumpernickel, and blueberry. Want to be schmeared? They might not respond since that’s a New York term but there are several smears(aka spreads) to choose from ranging from the classic strawberry to lox to almond honey. It’s perfect for going sweet or savory for your breakfast or brunch. Schmear me again, Manhattan Bagel.

How do Jews keep their bagels from being stolen? We put locks on them! And as far as bagels go, I’ll probably continue my crime prevention efforts elsewhere… Manhattan Bagel offers a decent breakfast or lunch alternative, although more often than not, you’ll find me at the takeout area of Betty’s Ocean View Diner.
