Absolutely delicious! Can’t believe I found a place that serves such delicious food at a great price. Lots of healthy vegetarian and meat choices to pick. Great customer service too

This place is a hole in wall on the North side of UC Berkeley. It is extremely tiny and has only a few seats. My boyfriend and I came here after the lunch rush and ordered two orders of Chicken Tiki Masala. We’re both big fans of Indian food and have tried a decent amount of CTM in Berkeley. We both agreed that it wasn’t the best we’ve had, and surprisingly, Indian Express had a better Butter Chicken/Chicken Tiki Masala dish. The dish itself had a very light, creamy orange color. The consistency was more watery than creamy and it came with a side of rice. I suggest ordering a side of naan with the dish! The naan was mediocre and had too much butter on it as the sauce literally kept slipping of it! This place is pricey for the portions it gives you, but the food is not bad.

Mmmm Mmm! Their buffet lunch option is perrrfect for those of you who love variety. It’s good since you can customize your dish, while not overeating, like at typical buffet style places, since they charge by weight($ 5/lb) They offer white rice, fried noodles, veggies, chicken, dal makhani, different breads and curries… etc Currently, this is my favorite lunch spot near campus!

Service good but OHMAHGOD the food was so incredibly salty I could feel my blood pressure raising with the first bite. I will usually eat everything and anything especially when it’s chicken tikka masala but I could feel the thickness of the salt precipitating out of the curry. Do yourself a favor and avoid the early age heart attack and eat somewhere else!

I got the chicken tikka masala which was incredibly salty. I’m usually not too picky with my food and if it’s not that great, I will still usually finish it because I don’t like to waste food. But plate was so incredibly salty, it was unbearable to eat… Moreover, the sauce was very creamy and not full of spice as it should be. And finally, the rice was just normal rice, as opposed to basamati rice, which is the norm in Indian cuisine. However, with the above being said, I guess I got what I paid for. The dish only cost ~$ 6. And, you get free naan if you check into the establishment on FB or Instagram(or in my case, the cashier let me do Unilocal). The naan was very good though. However, still 2 stars because of the saltiness.

The food here was alright. It wasn’t anything special in my opinion but it definitely fills you up if you actually eat the entire thing.

Just ordered delivery from here, and got a call from Eat24 telling me that the kitchen stops taking orders at 8:15 and my order was processed at 8:12, so they had to cancel my order. Now, I am no math genius, but 8:12 certainly comes before 8:15. This seems pretty ridiculous. I am hungry, and not happy. Lesson learned.

Momo Masala is a hole in the wall located on north side Asian ghetto, with a few tables inside and unlimited milk tea! They have varieties of Indian and Tibetan dishes, however I’ve only tried their Indian food. Dishes I have tried here include: lamb tikka masala, chicken tikka masala, lamb vindaloo, lamb biryani, chicken biryani, and lamb curry. I come here once a month, because it’s very convenient(I don’t have to go all the way to southside, or downtown Berkeley to get indian food), and some of their food is decent flavor wise. They also have a buffett for lunch from 11 – 3 during weekdays, and then you pay based on how much your plate weighs(which in my opinion is not fair). The staff here are super friendly and welcoming. But, I’m just gonna point out why I’m giving this place a 3-star(instead of a 4-star): — There is not much variety to their buffet, and they weigh your plate. I recommend ordering instead. — The food here is way too greasy/oily(so beware). — The service is slow(slower than most other places that serve this type of food). — Prices are a bit high. The portions are fair(they could be a bit bigger). — Some of their dishes(e.g lamb vindaloo or lamb curry) are bland. Things to know: * There is a minimum of $ 5 for credit cards. * They close at 9:00 but after 8:30 they won’t let you sit inside, so you basically have to get your food to go. — — — — — — — — Dishes I recommend: + Lamb Biryani + Chicken Biryani + Chicken tikka masala

FOREACHANDEVERYCUSTOMEROFMOMOMASALA !!! This is a rip off restaurant. I went there with my friend and they sale food per pound in lunch buffet in 6.99 per pound and they don’t even have enough selection of food with only one meat item !!! No spicy at all, your food was not authentic so please please please don’t try to imitate like whole food who sells in 8.99 per lb(but organic only). Plus the plate they provided was stainless steel weighting itself a pound, better you guys change your plate !!! Obviously, the price was too much and overall the food wasn’t that good quality so zero stars!!! So don’t try to get 300−400% profit of your cost production!!! And they expect to tip !!! Lol for a self service … Are you guys f*ing kidding !!! P. S. Go and learn from Himalayan Kitchen in Mountain view P. P. S. Better you guys called it MOFO restaurant

I really wish I could give this place a better review. The service was amazing. The woman woking the front was very nice. However the food did not justify the price. I got chicken vindaloo. She asked me how spicy I wanted it, so I said«medium». When I got the dish, I was not expecting to there to be white rice and not basmati or even jasmine. The vindaloo itself also had very little spice to it. I know that I said«medium», but I wasn’t expecting it to be bland. The potatoes in the vindaloo also didn’t seem like they were cooked thoroughly.

Really solid place, and pretty inexpensive too. I got the saag paneer and an order of samosas, and the whole thing came out to be about ten bucks. The sag paneer was really flavorful and didn’t have any cream, which is a huge plus. The samosas were low on the salt, which was also a plus for me. The staff was super nice. Can’t wait to try it again!

First the con: –If you get a dish with naan, it’ll could be pricier than other places around the area, but don’t let that stop you from trying it at least once. Pros: — Food will seem simple, but taste great. I had one of the cream based chicken dishes with onion naan bread. Combining the three was fantastic. — The place feels much cleaner than most other places. — the service was great. They’re courteous and patient. — The walls are decorated to make eating there feel like a cultural experience, which it might be for some people, and they’re painted a perfect shade of orange– not too bright, but enough to make the atmosphere feel lively in contrast to the dullness that often accompanies other places. — There’s also unsweetened hot milk tea that you can get after ordering your food. For anyone looking for a relatively simple, but heart-warming meal, I’d say this is a great spot. Definitely one of my favorite places on Northside so far.

A little pricy but decent food. I’ve ordered the shabaklap pronounced chapalay which is a thick fried dough with meat inside and dipped in hot sauce and I’ve also ordered ten momo for 5 bucks on Wednesday, and the mango lassi. The mango lassi was delicious but slightly pricy at $ 2.50. The shabaklap is interesting but not sure if I’d get it again since it was 8 bucks for only 2 medium sized pieces. The beef momo was delicious though– juicy from broth inside momo which is like a dumpling. The meat was also well seasoned and overall the 5 dollar momo on Wednesday is one of the best deals from this shop. The service was decent with the workers being polite and they were efficient. Overall, I’d go back for more momo or snacks.

I was tired of eating Japanese or Chinese food so I tried this place out after seeing a 6.50 lunch special sign. I loaded a lot of food on the metal plate to hear the worker explain that it was $ 6.50 per Pound. The total including tax was $ 15.27 and even the worker was kinda surprised. All I could think in my head was«rekt». I was not impressed with the food for the price. It was tasty, but on the bland side. However, they have hot milk tea which was so pleasant that it made up for everything. Hits the spot.

If you guys are really hungry you can get an awesome Tibetian meal for only a few bucks here! Me and my friend ordered our meal online and wanted to pick it up 15 minutes later. When we arrived, the lady gave us the advise to add sauce to one of the meals because otherwise it’d be too dry. She didn’t even charge anything for the additional sauce. After another 5 minutes, we could take our food home and enjoy it. Everything was simply delicious! Personal advise: Try the mango lassi.

It’s an Indian restaurant with ok food near the engineering buildings. Convenient when you’re working late on a project or don’t want to leave northside and want Indian food. The food is not bad. The curries are flavorful but really heavy/oily. I’d give the food 3 stars on average. My problem with this place is its strange menu decisions and constant state of flux. The curries all come with rice. This is annoying if you want to eat it with naan, roti, etc. as most Indian restaurants would serve. I think they’re trying to appeal to the non-Indian crowd on northside by giving rice by default. Also, the amount of rice is awkward — big enough to go with maybe half the curry. So I usually ended up going to the lunch special. It used to be 8 bucks for a single plate of however much food you could cram on it. The lunch buffet was pretty bland, even compared to the normal dishes, but for the price it was ok. Unfortunately, they changed that sometime at the beginning of this school year. They ended up charging for the plate based on the weight of the food plus the paper plate and started doing crafty things like offering chicken curry with bones in it to increase the weight. The price was now more like $ 10, which made me want to come less frequently. The straw that really breaks the camel’s back is their most recent change. Instead of paper plates, they started using metal trays for the lunch special. You’re probably thinking«they wouldn’t possibly charge extra for the weight of the metal tray?» Well, unless I’m mistaken, they actually charge for it. I got a reasonable amount of food and ended up paying $ 13. I wouldn’t recommend coming here considering how awkward and pricey things are. Either way, if you regularly eat Indian food, you will probably be disappointed in the quality of the food. The best food here is probably the chicken curries. The momos are ironically very bland.

I came here for lunch between classes and was very disappointed. I ordered the lamb vindaloo — a very safe choice when it comes to this cuisine. What I actually got were hard pieces of lamb with half boiled potatoes in a salty and bland sauce, not to mention the pitiful serving size(about 5 eraser sized nuggets of lamb, one potato halved, and a small carryout container of rice). On top of that, this disaster cost me a whopping $ 10. Even as I’m writing this review, its causing rumbling in my stomach. Disgusting.

Dude she was so nice Like I felt like she was hugging me with her cordiality – One outside table in front of the awesomely photographed, big menu A bunch more little tables inside I like the outside one the best – I felt like the veggie samosas were a tad too mild-tasting for the mild sauces which tasted slightly different than other restaurants’ sauces do Ooh the mango lassi was great Definitely worth the price

Better than most of the South Asian buffets around berkeley but I wish they included more himalayan style foods in the buffet. I’ll update if I go back and get some momo and the like.

I am not sure why this place is rated so highly. The food is just okay, and the prices are higher than your average Indian restaurant. Sure, they give you generous portions and free chai tea, but so does every other Indian restaurant in Berkeley, and sometimes for a fraction of the price. The chicken tikka masala sauce tasted like a buttery tomato soup, not the deliciously spiced tikka masala sauce that we all know and love. The chicken biryani was pretty average; I wish it automatically came with the yogurt raita sauce. I was very much looking forward to the Tibetan momos from Momo Masala, but was sorely disappointed by them. Their momos are, essentially, beef inside a thick dumpling wrapper. While they were good, I wish there was more of a balance between the meat and other ingredients normally found in dumplings, like vegetables, potatoes, spices, etc. The momos here are just filled with spiced beef. Because of how heavy beef is, I could only eat about four in one sitting. Perhaps traditional momos are very heavy on the meat, but if that is the case, I guess I’m not a fan of traditional momos.
