This place has a diner-style menu, ranging from gyros or eggs to burritos or burgers. I got a side of home fries, which is my standard order. These were some of the best home fries I’ve had(and I’ve had a lot)! They tasted fresh, with real peppers and onions, and not too oily. The portion was generous for a side, and even the ketchup was better than normal. I can’t speak to the rest of the menu, but the home fries are great.

Love the simple, straightforward café interior. Love the big and varied menu. Really nice staff. This is my type of place.

Love their burgers! I always ask for ¼ lb burger, medium rare with grilled onions and guacamole. Everything is always the way I ask. Ingredients are consistently fresh, both at night or in the mornings. They also pack it well, so it survives my walk to class. The place is cozy and they also have seats outside. They’re super friendly and always prompt. Love this place!

An oasis of irony in the middle of movements deed. This little delight possesses trolls in the corner stone watching each other — nonchallant at the outside world with a Mona Lisa attention to the original ideal: digging a meal at peace. Complex with images and trivia details, the small-big room invites one to proceed and go about their day. The menu astounds a sense of the grand: half chicken, breakfast, various wraps, a funky velveta cheese burger, delux fries, etc. etc. etc.(Menu web reference: ). The hope of our dear Berkeley: a family business dignity(no loitering please), and humility with individual style. Addison & Shattuck Square, on Shattuck at «the hillside» at the top of the BART Addison stairs exit. Review the menu or just admire at passing.

Wow, obviously the comments are from young college kids with no taste. My cat could do better coughing up my breakfast, cause it would at least be warm. I had the two egg breakfast with waffle. The same two gentlemen in the picture above were running the show. One at the register and one at the grill. The guy at the register was frank and not nice. I got my food and my eggs were barely cooked. Very runny, not even over easy, like the white part wasn’t even cooked.(I asked for over hard). The sausage had been deep fat fried. I know this cause 25 years ago I worked as a cook at Denny’s. And the worst part is, one of the sausages looked like it had been double dipped.(So Gross). The waffle was like a wet diaper. Similar to an eggo waffle with freezer burn not put in the toaster long enough. I guess the only thing good about this place is that it reset my standard on ‘Worst breakfast ever!”

This is a very tiny breakfast diner, but the taste is HUGE! One of the best breakfast’s I’ve ever had. Their potatoes are incredible. Fresh orange juice is delicious. The staff is kind and generous. This place is a must for any breakfast lover.

Humble service with great portions and taste that overflows. I enjoyed the outdoor seating to soak in the fun of Berkeley. The chicken and cheese omelette is a great combination and the portions are various generous. Yes, the prices are high but it seemed comparable to other prices in Berkeley. Great stuff. Highly recommended.

This place is the best. The guys that run the place are super friendly and the cooks know how to prepare a meal. I started coming here every Sunday morning after working out and after the 3rd visit the guy behind the counter knew me by name along with my order. I unfortunately don’t remember his name: P Anyways, I’d always get the eggs/bacon/potatoes/muffin plate and it would always be spot on. Never had to wait more than 10 minutes for the food to be ready. Definitely going to continue with the Sunday routine because this place knows how to do breakfast.

I didn’t think much of this place when I first came here. It’s a pretty small restaurant with nothing flashy to really lure people in. But do not let that affect your decision to try this place out. The food is delicious and the owner and his team are very friendly. My favorite dish is the tuna sandwich. Hands down, the BEST I’ve ever had. Also, their freshly squeezed orange juice is refreshing and addictive. Can be a bit pricey, especially the OJ, but I think it’s worth it.

If Evanescence’s song«bring me to life»(in the best sense possible) could be a breakfast burrito, it would be the one at pollos. No hangover can withstand it’s formidable onslaught of cheese, eggs, potatoes, and bacon.

3.5 for me! Food was okay. The man, maybe owner, is very friendly(: My sister got the breakfast burrito with bacon — she was quite stuffed after! Mild salsa that came on the side was actually quite spicy(coming from me, who eats lots of spicy!) My mom got the chicken kabob plate — I think for a kabob plate, too much salad and too little kabob. The yogurt sauce was good, though I felt the meal lacked chicken. Came with a side of slightly sense but nice tasting pita I got the tuna salad sandwich — tasted like an ordinary tuna sandwich hahaha I thought it was a nice portion

We were there on a Friday just after lunch«rush». We ordered: single waffle, fish burrito and gyros. All were very good. The waffle was cooked through moist with flavor(almost as good as my Mom made). The fish burrito was«excellent», the flaked fish was balanced with the black beans & rice in every bite. The gyro was terrific, you had to eat the overflowing meat first.
We chatted with one of the owners, 2 brother’s stared at this location 30+ years ago. Clean, reasonable prices, great ribber necking spot & a clever conversation with the owner. Enjoy!

Very nice owner. Great service. Everything cooked from scratch, only wish the portion was a little bigger… But I’m greedy

Terrific breakfast stop. Good food and good service at a good price. I will usually switch between the breakfast burrito and the breakfast sandwich, depending on my mood. The burrito is under six bucks and is hearty. It’s got all the stuff you would expect: cheese, egg, potato, and salsa. Lately I’ve been getting the eggs over easy, and let me tell you, it’s a treat. The breakfast sandwich is under three bucks without meat-maybe same price with meat. Nothing fancy, but it has what you need: english muffin, egg, and cheese. So the food is tasty, and the guys cooking and serving are always friendly. Five stars all the way.

This place is great! Don’t let the appearance of the restaurant bother you. The place has been here for a while and their food is good. The owners are also extremely nice and helpful. I have been coming here regularly for quite awhile now. I’ve tried multiple items on their menu. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner but I think their breakfast is definitely the best. My favorite dishes are the Breakfast Special and the Chicken and Cheese omelet. The breakfast special comes with two eggs any style, bacon or sausage, home fries, toast or muffin, and coffee or orange juice, definitely a lot of food. They cook the eggs and bacon/sausage very well. Their home fries are also very good as they include onions with the potatoes. Their english muffins are fantastic. I really like the way they toast them with butter. They taste great alone but even better with a bit of jam. For their omelets, all of them are really quite massive and also come with toast or muffin and home fries. I will definitely keep coming back!

I’ve probably walked past this little shop a hundred times without noticing it, but my friend was craving breakfast burritos the other day and this place popped up on Unilocal. Located in downtown, it’s a small restaurant with maybe five or six tables inside. All the tables are covered in plastic tablecloths, but the chairs are made of heavy wood. You order when you first walk in, and then the server(who is also the cashier) will bring the food to you. He seems to just go by memory, which is pretty impressive. Service was mediocre, although I did notice that the cashier/server was more enthusiastic and friendly to some of the older patrons(perhaps he’s had difficult experiences with young, college-ish customers in the past?). Water was self-serve, although the plastic cups provided are tiny. Breakfast burrito with a side of salsa: ( ) This burrito was larger than I expected, but it was composed mostly of a thick tortilla wrapping. The eggs and salsa inside were okay, but really nothing memorable. I don’t even remember what else was in it, that’s how mediocre it was. I believe it was potatoes? Meat comes as an extra, and since we got a double cheeseburger, we opted for a meatless option here. The sauce was amply spicy, and that’s pretty much all I tasted. I do appreciate that once the burrito was wrapped, it was set on the grill so that the tortilla was slightly toasted and crunchy on the outside. Half pound cheeseburger with a side of fries: ( ) This is a bigger version of a double-double at In-n-Out, and there’s a sign towards the front that states they use Angus beef. I did think this burger was tasty, and I enjoyed the generous amount of lettuce and tomato within. The half-pound beef was just two patties, and while I did taste the freshness of the beef, I didn’t think it was anything special. I would probably pick this over the breakfast burrito though. Overall, an okay stop to satisfy our rumbling tummies. It’s interesting that this little restaurant with the name«Original Chickens» serves diner food.

Cozy place for breakfast and solid if you don’t need anything fancy. From the regulars that wandered in, this place is a Berkeley institution. Come in — have a coffee, pucker up to some fresh squeezed orange juice and power up with some sausage(or bacon) and eggs cooked the way you like ‘em — you’ll need it if you want to explore everything Berkeley has to offer.
