Precision Vision

Man who answered the phone was pretty rude. I called inquiring about whether they had a particular style of a brand of frames I’m looking for, gave him the brand and style name, then he said it would take too long for him to look but he could call the company to order them. I literally just got off the phone with another store that politely looked for me after I provided them with the same exact information I provided to precision vision. Was totally turned off by this guy’s attitude, and won’t bother patronizing this place given the plethora of other options in Berkeley. I understand if you have a lot of styles by a particular brand, but I gave you the exact name, do you not have a computer system in which you can view whether you carry that type? Also, even if you really truly can’t look and find out, a pleasant attitude goes a long way, and I might have been willing to have the frames ordered at this store if it wasn’t for the off putting attitude of whoever it was I spoke with.

I went in there to inquire about either repairing my frames or changing them. Frankly the owner was gruff and off putting. He looked annoyed and kept telling me how much more expensive this and that option would be. Talk about not being commercial! I am sure he’s knowledgeable and perhaps he’s not a bad guy when he «comes around» (as per the other review), but why would a customer bother getting to this point? I’ve taken my business elsewhere.

K ol’ dude (the owner) is… a bit off– putting. But just keep on keepIn’ on & he comes around. He’s …interesting actually. I’m going back for a standard adjustment and I’m looking forward to seeing him. He remembered and asked about Taz (wins points).
He doesn’t except insurance but it’s easy enough to get reimbursed, worth it to support a longstanding local.

I can’t say enough good things about Precision Vision. When my son was little, Alan helped me get glasses that looked good on me and still could withstand all the roughhousing with a small bundle of energy (not to mention my tendency to fall asleep with my glasses on). They’re custom-​made, and they lasted over 5 years before I had to get new glasses because of a new prescription. When I went in, expecting to start all over again with someone new, Alan was still there himself and he still had my records on file! I got new glasses quickly and easily, and at a price below what other people had quoted for the same quality. (The prices do seem high at first, until you compare apples to apples by taking quality into consideration.)
As long as he’s there, I’ll never buy glasses anyplace else.

I’ve been going to this place ever since I was an undergrad at Cal. Alan and his wife run the place, and Alan does top-​quality work. I have bad eyes and need high-​index lenses which are expensive, and Alan saved me nearly $ 200 the last time he did my lenses. I will say that they don’t have the best selection for designer/​fashion frames, but Alan will gladly do your lenses for you if you bring frames from a different place (which is what I did last time).

The best! I have bought frames and lenses here for years. He is a truly Berkeley person, in the sense that he has an independent mind and treats everyone singularly. Once you have his attention, he will make sure you have the right frames. When I decided to get an old fashioned split bi-​focal, rather than the blended, he helped me figure out where to put the line, because I wanted them for readings almost exclusively. It is this kind of thoughtfulness that is irreplacable, and hard to find these days.

So, this is the deal about Precision Vision. An older gentleman owns the place, and it is locally owned, not a big chain eye store (a big plus). He loves, loves, loves what he does, and he is really, really, really opinionated. He has really kickin’ frames that are usually on sale, and most importantly to me, he left me alone when I wanted to be left alone and helped me when I wanted him to help me.
