It’s a little hidden on the corner of haste. When you walk in you can sit indoors or head father back to the outside seating — i’ve done both. I was a fan of this place since they had Strongbow and after going to Europe I had huge cravings. It’s a great place to satisfy your carne asada fries cravings. I’ve had better and wish that the fries were a bit crispier, but it’s a great place to chill with friends and get drinks. Their prickly pear margaritas were also VERYGOOD.

So now that I’ve been here twice I feel confident that I can write a honest review. I really like their food, it’s decently priced, fresh, and they have a lot of options to choose from. Their bean dip is really good! Very cheesy and yummy, definitely one of the best things to get there. I’ve had their chilaquiles and their steak quesadilla, both are also very good. Boyfriend loves their fish tacos(the San Felipe), so if you’re a fish taco lover, I recommend you try theirs! Now, I am newer to the Berkeley area so I cannot compare this owner to the previous one so I can’t really say how good the food used to be. Presently I find it to be a lot better than some of the other Mexican food options along Telegraph, definitely a lot better quality. Not to mention, they have beer! As long as I have some chips and a beer, I’m good. The only downside to this place is their service. Both times I have come in on a Saturday night: one was a pretty slow Saturday, and the other was during graduations. Both times there has only been one server working there. It kind of baffles me why they would do that to this poor guy. Seeing him run back and forth while there are a bunch of groups of graduates/families waiting around and basically serving and bussing everything all by himself makes you feel bad for the poor guy. So, if you’re not on a time crunch and you’re okay with waiting a while for your food, then you may be okay with the lack of servers. These guys have a lot of potential(and the space!) to be a really happening spot, they just need to hire more people!

This is the spot you want to go to. The pricing is very reasonable. Food is delicious which great serving proportions. You defiantly get your money’s worth. They have a tv by the bar, which I love. The staff is super friendly, but the times I have been there they are short staff. The food is defiantly worth the wait!

My husband went to undergrad at Cal and fell in love with a restaurant called La Fiesta. It was a family owned restaurant with amazing Mexican food. When we went back for vacation my husband was devastated to find that La Fiesta closed and had been«taken over» by a new company that renamed and moved the restaurant, so we decided to try it. We walked in and the place was empty. There were two or three other parties in the restaurant at dinner time. Our server took forever to take our order, the salsa tasted more like tomato sauce, and the food was just meh. Needless to say my husband was extremely disappointed. I was better with the mediocre food since I never tried the original but my husband was almost inconsolable after this experience.

Louis, our server(and bartender?) Served us extremely well. The chicken fajitas were good, but the service made my visit a solid 5 stars. If I had the option I’d give 10! Louis was obviously running the whole restaurant himself, although I did see 2 other servers for roughly 0.5 seconds each when they came to watch the game or flirt with the handsome men at the bar. I found that funny, and since I had such great service I didn’t mind the other lackluster servers. Thanks to Louis, I’ll definitely be coming again! 5 stars!

One of the better Mexican places in Berkeley and it’s relatively close to campus too! There are so many vegetarian options here! You can sub tofu or veggies or mushroom for meat in most dishes. If you get a burrito dare to go enchilada style with red sauce — you won’t be disappointed. The enchiladas themselves are okay, but the nachos are ahmazingg — huge portions, and so satisfying.

Taco Tuesdays are a great time to be here! $ 3 per taco after 5pm with a $ 8 for 3 taco deal to make things even better! My group of 3 including me also split a pitcher of strawberry margarita(no tequila, just agave wine) which tasted real sweet :)

Best Mexican restaurant in Berkeley that is affordable for college students and that I would actually want to continue eating at after graduating. The restaurant has a relaxed laid back vibe and is a great place to meet up/grab a bite with friends. It has actual tables compared to most eateries in Berkeley and enough space for large groups. Good food at decent prices. They have a bar and TVs inside to watch sports. Feel like eating Mexican food? Try this place out.

Given that it was SLOW. This maybe change when they are slammed. But, one of the best restaurants for service. The guy behind the bar was relaxed, funny and attentive. The carne asada were bomb. Definitely heading back when in the area

Remys is a really cool restaurant-bar-combo. They have very nice food at reasonable prices and a large selection of beers. Also, the staff is friendly, efficient and pleasant — especially the one asian-american waiter. I can highly recommend Remys for anybody who wants to enjoy some nice food and have a really good time.

Lackluster Mexican restaurant two blocks down from Unit 2 Residence Halls and 1 block down from People’s Park. We came here and the place was empty… for a good reason. The food is mediocre. Only one waitress and one cook for the entire place. We came here well before their closing time and we attempted to order a few items on their menu. Some items were not available to be ordered because the kitchen was apparently going to close soon??? We were obviously confused but still stayed and chose different items. Poor decision. We once asked them to host a fundraiser for us but it was hard to generate money from it because so few people come here in the first place. Berkeley has so many different options as far as Mexican food goes; this isn’t one of them.

I used to come here to drink all the time. They give you tee chips so that’s cool! Other than that get a big pitcher of margarita to share! On certain days there’s specials so call in or check online! I’m not a huge fan of Mexican food so I never really order food there. But it’s a great environment and spacious for large groups! Try the original margarita!

The BF and I were craving tacos and decided to check out Remy’s — bad decision. We spent $ 40 on crap food. The fish tacos tasted like $ 8 deep fried Gordon fish filets. :(The BF said his carne asada was dry. Aside from the salsa(yum), nothing tasted fresh; even the bean dip was canned. Go elsewhere, seriously. Positive: The gal who served us was pleasant enough. She brought her own food from home to eat, should have taken that as a sign.

I AMWAVERINGBETWEEN3STARS&4, BUTWILLGOLOWERFORREASONSTHATAPPEARBELOW: 1. PROS — Delicious, fresh, chunky salsa and guacamole. The salsa had a little bit of a kick, which is uncommon and also very welcome! The bean dip was also delicious too! My carnitas taco was great, with lean, flavorful pork, and the usual onion and cilantro. Delicious! Excellent selection of beers and ales. And my server, Richie, was warm and engaging and very knowledgeable about everything. He was excellent! 2. CONS — Their margaritas are made with agave wine, rather than tequila. They don’t have a hard liquor license, and I did not realize this until I had ordered a pitcher of margaritas! I tried to liven up some of the soggy, lame-o margarita with a shot of the agave wine and some extra limes, but it was futile. The night I was there(Sunday, April 19), The restaurant’s blender was broken, so they could not serve blended margaritas. They were also completely out of carne asada! The chicken in the flautas(both my companion and I ordered them) had a musty, gamy flavor — -either it was all dark meat or it’d been cooked a long time before and lying around for a while. All in all, tasty food and nice staff & ambience. But the CONS noted above are significant, and definitely do impact the overall experience.

Non existent service. Took 15 – 20 min to even get a server’s attention. Ended up leaving before even ordering.

Came here with the squad yesterday for Taco Tuesday. We were extraordinarily early(around 5:20pm) because #senioryear – so naturally, the place was extremely empty and we got some fairly attentive service. Don’t remember our server’s name, but he was very kind, if a bit misinformed(told us that the specials didn’t start until 6pm… when it said clearly on the menu that the discounts start at 5pm, which we made sure to point out). He also messed up one of our margarita pitchers but gave it to us for an additional discount which was great! He also brought us their three different kinds of house salsa, each one of which was transcendent. I think my party of 6 – 7 devoured somewhere around 8 – 10 bowls of chips, which is a little gross if you think about it too much. Luckily, we didn’t have to, since we ordered several margarita and beer pitchers; we got to taste the mango, peach-mango, and prickly pear margaritas. The mango and peach-mango mix were both good, but we all agreed that the prickly pear one was the best – not too thick, and not oversweet at all. None of the pitchers were watered down in the least, which was awesome(maybe not for those of us with class/meetings afterward). One downside was that it was pretty filled with ice, so if you come with a party of over 5 and are trying to booze it up economically, I would suggest just ordering the beer pitchers. The tacos, while definitely a bit pricy, were filling, tasty, and photogenic(I realize this is incredibly important for people who like to document their experiences on Instagram). The selection was also pretty good, with mahi mahi and shrimp tacos. The herbivore housemates also enjoyed the vegetarian options, especially the tofu ones. Definitely coming back for more Tuesdays :)

Not too bad. Chips and salsa was pretty good. Margaritas made with agave wine were delicious and $ 5 for a pint! What a deal. I had Carnitas which was mostly good a little on the dry side. Husband had Bistec Ranchero and kids had cheese quaesadilla. Overall good and can’t beat the price. I had 2 margaritas, husband had 2 beers and all of the meals — $ 48. They have taco tuesdays and I’m sure that’s great. Seems like a good place to catch the game, get drinks and food at the bar too.

A small hole in the wall restaurant-bar! The atmosphere is much more calm compared to Kips and Pappy’s. The food itself is also good! I highly recommend their tacos(Mahi Mahi) and suggest coming here for taco tuesday. Unfortunately the tostadas and other entrees were made a bit too salty. Drinks are mediocre here. Their margaritas aren’t too strong either so I suggest ordering a pitcher.

I have been coming here since before I moved to Berkeley. The food is amazing and the owner is really nice. The real game changer is their take on margaritas. Instead of tequila they use agave wine and let me just tell you-drinking a pitcher of agave wine margs will not give you a hangover headache like tequila.

I’ve been here a couple times but only for Taco Tuesdays. This is primarily because this isn’t GREAT Mexican food but it does the job if you are going out with some friends for tacos and margaritas. Atmosphere: It’s sort of hidden but once you get inside, it has a good amount of seating. There is also a bar you can sit at along with a huge communal table if you want to sit with random people. Overall, good place to hang out with a small or big party of people. Service: The first time I came here pretty late I had no problem with service. Unfortunately the second time I got here around 6:30pm on Tuesday evening when it was pretty busy. We were seated sort of near the entrance so our waitress rarely made her way back there. She serviced the large table as well as the tables near the bar more, which was really annoying because everytime we wanted anything, whether it was a refill or even forks, it took us almost 10 minutes to flag her down. But I guess part of that is that it was a busy night, but they need more people on those nights instead of just one waitress! Food: My favorite thing here is the portabello mushroom taco. It’s so much better than other tacos I’ve had for taco tuesdays because it’s bigger, has more flavor than any other vegetarian taco, and tastes so fresh. I’m also a fan of their guacamole, except that the price you pay for such a small bowl of it is kind of ridiculous. But besides that it is really fresh and delicious! Drinks: I’ve had their mango margarita and the regular one as well – both are great! Their pitchers are priced very well compared to other places so if you’re coming to drink for a good price, this is the place to be! I loved their blended margaritas because they were heavier and you couldn’t taste the alcohol as intensely which was nice. Overall, I liked this place enough to come back. But only for taco tuesdays because that’s only when it’s really worth it.
