As a fellow mental health professional, I have had the marvelous opportunity to consult many times over the years with Dr. Addison, and am always the better for it. She is truly one of the most intelligent people I know, and is a gifted educator and supervisor/consultant. I have visited her seminars, and have been impressed by the relationships developed with her students. She was kind enough to help me with curriculum development around harm reduction issues, and has often passed on interesting readings and useful resources. She is dedicated to the profession in a way that few therapists are. She is also a fantastic mentor, especially if you are looking to learn nuanced ways of looking at clinical material. Dr. Addison is also a tireless advocate for others(queer people, people of color, kinky/poly people) and has her finger on the pulse of the most current size-positive political movements of the day. I would heartily recommend her if you are looking for someone with immense sensitivity and cultural humility.

Sheila regularly provides a great balance of sympathetic ear, pragmatic and extremely helpful advice, and a fantastically dry sense of humor. She’s not just open minded or accepting, she’s supportive and kind, which makes talking to her a very comfortable and comforting experience. Absolutely recommended.

Dr. Addision is extremely perceptive and open-minded. She truly listens. Her insightful feedback and advice really made a huge difference to my partner and I when we needed help. I felt safe and comfortable talking to her about things I wouldn’t generally feel ok discussing, and that sense of security really allowed me to get to the root of some of the problems. Her gentleness, humor and honesty in working with us was incredibly valuable.
