Stopped here while taking a stroll through the area for a grilled cheese and some fries with my son. Grilled cheese was good, made well but lacking flavor a bit. The fries are amazing, thin and crispy with the best seasoning ever, makes them some of my favorite fries around. Prices are fair and the food came out quickly. Clean space with plenty of seating and not too busy. Great location, worth a stop for a quick and filling bite.

Good grilled cheese, reasonable prices, and no High Fructose Corn Syrup sodas here! food is made to order and comes out quick, there isn’t a lot of seating inside so when its peak time, it maybe hard to get.

Pretty good food. Kinda expensive though. I got a crush on one of the girls that work there. She has green hair at the moment but that might change. Hella cute. Happy eating. Ps get the smores melt, it’s pretty dank.

While I’ve always been a fan of their food, I’m disappointed by their attempts to cut corners on portions and prices. I’ve watched as their prices have gone up, but value has gone down. Soup cups are noticeably smaller than in the past, making the tomato soup too expensive to be worth it. Even the price of soda has gone up. I can make a grilled cheese just as satisfying at home.

I really have no idea why this place has three stars. Literally no clue. My honey and I ordered a mac n cheese grilled cheese with bacon, a bacon bbq burger, tomato basil soup and two PBR’s for under 20 dollars. If you think this is expensive you’re doing it wrong. The food was prepared perfectly and we both ate every bite. The place was not crowded at all at 330 on a Sunday. The service was beyond friendly. Their ordering system is efficient and high tech. I would absolutely return here and I am baffled why anyone would feel differently.

I was pretty disappointed with this location. Never been to the one in sf, so I can’t say for sure if that one is any good or not. But for the Berkeley one I was very disappointed. The grilled cheese was just meh. I got the mac n cheese grilled cheese with a side of the regular fries. It was one of those rare moments where I thought the fries were better than the sandwich. The cheese congealed pretty fast and soon became a thick, greasy blob. The mac n cheese was pretty tasteless. Overall, I would say the food was greasy, plain, and not very appetizing. The fries were crispy and delicious, though I wouldn’t come back here again just for some fries. The place was pretty crowded(full of college students I assume, since it’s near the campus). Though it was crowded, the food came out relatively quick and the wait was not too bad. However, seating can be a problem, especially if you come with a group of people, don’t expect to find easy seating. All in all, I will not return here. If you want a delicious mac n cheese grilled cheese, go to the American Grilled Cheese Kitchen in SF. It is hands down way tastier and worth the trip.

There is a young energetic African American supervisor here who freaking rocks. I wish I could give this establishment 5 stars just for her. But unfortunately she was not there tonight, and I’m done eating here. I watched the cook make my sandwich, and as she was chatting with her coworker, I saw that she only put it in the press once, which made the sandwich half as cooked as normal(I come here about once a week for the past year) On top of that I was the first person to order and 2 orders came out before mine(all grilled cheeses). I thought it wouldn’t matter and tried to eat it. As expected the cheese was only half melted. So if I’m paying $ 10 for two prices of bread, cheese, and tomato soup, i have the right to ask for it to be delicious. I guess I should have said something right away when I noticed she only pressed it once, so that’s my bad for not making sure MELT employees are cooking the food correctly. When I brought the sandwich back, stating that it wasn’t cooked all the way, The employee argued that I was wrong. Rule of thumb for any business, train your employees to never question a customers request. She then proceeded to tell me I had attitude, which I TOTALLY did given to annoyance of the situation, but again, managers, train your employees that disrespecting customers is unacceptable customer service. I have given way too much money to this place for overpriced food to get treated that way.

I have always been curious about The Melt. And what kind of food they offered. Finally, I decided to call off from work and explore City of Berkeley. Enjoy the nice weather and different people. Unfortunately, the customer service doesn’t match the good food. First, the host didn’t greet me or my friends or explain the menu. He spoke really fast and he had to repeat himself twice because I didn’t understand he said. There was no friendly smile nor did the other staff look like they wanted to be at work on a Sunday. But the food was really good and can’t complain.

This is just going to be a review of gushing emotions. I was so psyched to hear that there was a Melt close by school especially because they opened one recently where I was living before I moved. I dreamed of their mac and cheese and delicious grilled cheese sandwiches… d-i-s-a-p-p-o-i-n-t-e-d why why why why why can’t all chains be the sameeeeeee The italian job here is my go to for the melt and theirs was just blegh. So salty. The vanilla milkshake was seriously more work drinking than swimming. Workers were very ugh ugh ugh and the place was so gross. I saw remaining crumbs and smears of past meals forgotten on the tables. Yo if you have time to be gossiping with coworkers or texting on your phone just grab a wet towel and wipe your tables down pls… They also got rid of the t-mac which just… it crushed me really. I have no words, only silence for a wrongfully removed carb source. rest in peace brother. The only redeeming thing about this place is their sweet potato fries~~~~~ but it’s also pretty salty. I’m the kind of person who loves food but hates exercise so much she would eat less to not exercise but this place made me wanna run laps around campus or something to get the salt to leave my body more faster before i got sodium poisoning or something LOL…

I was honestly satisfied with the quality of the burger and the classic grilled cheese for its price. I got the spicy mission burger and the burgers were pretty juicy imo for only 6.45 The grilled cheese was only 5 $ and may not be the item to fill you up but since I have a small stomach it filled me up pretty well. The scenery in the restaurant is nice giving it like a clean look while playing pop music.

Ok, the staff is still Excellent. And I will miss them. But $ 15 for a grilled cheese and side salad? And no veggie burger? I might be done here.

I’ll give you a tip: the shroom burger is succulent with flavor. The fries are available with various and sundry seasoning to keep your palette fascinated to the last fry. They have gluten-free buns available which is a plus for a possessor of a non-gluten-digesting stomach monster like the one I have. Oh yes, and their shakes are delicious too.

The Melt gets 3 stars for unapologetically being what it is. Although, could use more grilled cheese options, there are only like 3 on the menu. They seem to be going through some rebranding, adding burgers and mac and cheese. If you have a crew with you, order with the app! Then simply scan your custom QR code and you are done. You can see on screens around the restaurant when your order will be ready. A big pitfall is that their tomato soup kind of sucks. For a grilled cheese spot, you would def expect better. VERY limited seating inside. Don’t expect to come here for something healthy, but expect meltiness!

Not much to say about the cheese sandwiches but the burgers are pretty good. I always get the spicy mission, which has guac, pickled onions, and jalapenos for around $ 6. The pickled onions are what really makes the burger unique. The spicy mission looks small but is pretty filling. I’d say this place is pretty good for college students on a budget. The restaurant is always really clean and orders come out quickly. There’s reliable service and consistent quality in regards to the food. The Melt is definitely one of the restaurants I frequent more often on Telegraph.

My visit before the renovations was way better compared to my most recent one. Note: Do not come here on a Saturday around lunchtime. I’m sure there are always busy times here, but holy crap. One person on the register and 3 people cooking in the back that seem like they were working the grills with their heads cut off. Most of the people ordering were single or double orders, we had a full order of 5, but weren’t the only family that had the idea of stopping by melt. We waited 45 minutes for our order, watching the screen for our name to say it was ready and watched as other orders after ours finished quickly. With the place being swamped, there weren’t enough people to take a break from what they were doing to bus or wipe down tables, so a lot of people were wiping down spots themselves after grabbing one from a leaving patron. The girl taking orders wasn’t pleasant, no smile or even a warm disposition for someone who should be giving great customer service. I know what it’s like to work during a lunch rush, feeling stressed, panicked even, but no reason to be rude to customers. The food definitely helped save a star and the previous experience. The Mac Daddy and Italian Job were hits. The price, not so much. We paid almost $ 45 for the 5 of us(2 kid meals and 3 grilled cheeses, we opted for water cups). Not sure if the price is worth it, at least for us. We tried it, but most likely won’t come back.

All the many times I’ve walked passed the melt on some kind of restrictive diet, unable to endulge. not this time pal! Finally I got to try The Melt! What is it? Grilled Cheese Sandwiches baby. Ever had one? Sure you have. You just slap some cheese and butter and bread in a pan, and soon, melty, crispy goodness is in your mouth! Well, that’s exactly what you get here, but with some really delicious choices of grilled cheese, and also burgers, fries, mac & cheese, and even salads(boooring!). Hmm. where do I begin? So I had«The Truffle» which has Truffle, Fontina, Fresh Spinach on Artisan White. $ 6.95 Then«She» had«The Italian Job» which has Fontina & Provolone, Mushrooms on Spicy Garlic Bread. $ 5.95 Both of these were hot, crispy, creamy, and fantastic! Don’t play with me, I would eat like 10 in a row right about now, now tat you’ve got me thinking about it! THEN! We ordered the Smores Melt. Think of warm, toasty grilled cheese sandwich, now picture it without cheese, and put chocolate and marshmallows on it instead! Yikes that was good. $ 3.95 Happy eating!

The Melt is constantly reinventing themselves. First, they started with a few basic types of cheese sandwiches and soups. Then, they expanded to more adventurous cheese sandwiches and added salads to the menu. Now, they have burgers and chicken sandwiches as well. Who knows what they will have a few months from now? Their willingness to try new things is one of my favorite things about the Melt. Not everything is a hit, but they always seem to be trying to improve. I’m not a fan of the new burgers. The burger patty is too small and not the best tasting meat. The fries are okay, but nothing special. My current order is the Mac Daddy sandwich(which is mac and cheese and bacon between two slices of bread) with the field greens salad(it has goat cheese and is amazing). I would highly recommend both of these items. Also, if you show your Cal ID, you get a free drink.

Late one night my boyfriend and I were sitting at home too lazy to cook but too hungry to stop complaining(‘MMMMURICAN!). As usual, I couldn’t decide what I wanted to eat but he was glad to make my decision for me, asking if I would be willing to eat some mac and cheese. It was one of those offers that sounded so delicious the first time I heard it that I didn’t even consider the fact that there’s a reason I don’t buy mac and cheese from restaurants… It always friggin’ blows. But he mentioned that time we were walking past The Melt on our way somewhere and I had asked when it would open.(Apparently, playful musings are redefined as hard-hitting requests when used to support whatever claim/argument/point/request he is making.) We got there and from the lack of patrons alone I was beginning to understand I had conceded on the wrong trip. Everything from the cookie-cutter interior to the folks behind the counter just didn’t inspire the feeling that these people loved or even remotely cared about our food. My boyfriend got a cheeseburger(essentially… Pretty sure it had some special name that I don’t remember) with the«Well Dressed» fries. Even though I knew I probably shouldn’t, I ordered the T-Mac, which was some sort of specialty mac and cheese with mushrooms and fontina cheese. When we got home and unearthed the goodies, I was pissed. All of the cheese(well, the entire nickle-sized dollop that comprised my meal) from my T-Mac was sitting on one side of the container it had come in, riddled with ransacked, naked noodles on one side and a few(2.5 pieces, I counted) mushroom slivers wedged in between the solid chunks of separated ingredients. I ended up eating my boyfriend’s fries because at least they tasted like something(I will NEVER, EVER, EVER eat a cooked but totally naked noodle ever again in life) while he complained about the flavor(or lack thereof, more appropriately) of his burger. All in all, we will not be back to this SUPER bland, overrated dump.

Imagine a extra cheesy grilled cheese sandwich stuffed with Mac n cheese w bacon. Mouth watering droooooooool right?! Yeh that’s what I imagined too when I ordered the Mac daddy. Got it and it wasn’t the ooey gooey cheesy Sammy I imagined :(slightly disappointed. Still good flavor but woulda been better with more cheese that was melting in your mouth. it was kinda dry =\ Also serve it with a pickle on the side. If you’re like me and don’t like pickles or even your food touching pickles bc you can taste the pickle on your food– make sure you ask for no pickle on the side. Mediocre. Don’t think I’ll be running back any time soon for the Mac Daddy. They’re serving of Mac & cheese looked good though!
