Got the breakfast burger and waffle fries and a chocolate shake. The burger is AMAZING! Get this guy if you’re super hungry. The fries are fries, not great, not terrible. Got a chocolate shake too, which was a solid milkshake. I’ll be coming back to try different burgers for sure!

They have wonderful fries — the snack Shack fries, and the snack Shack burger is great choice too. In addition, the attendants are very friendly!

After grabbing a slice of pizza at Pizzahhh, I was still a little hungry, and my friend told me about this place, so I decided to check it out! The first time I came, I only got a small Shack fries. Don’t be fooled; the portions are pretty big. There was plenty of fries and I loved the garlic herb aoli! It was savory, very garlicky and slightly salty, but not overbearing. The atmosphere is great; it’s the perfect place to come grab a drink and dinner with friends and watch the game! A few days later, I returned, wanting to try the pork belly sliders my friend had been raving about. I did not regret that decision at all. The pork belly sliders came with pickled onions and a plum sauce. The pickled onions offered a refreshing taste to the otherwise more heavy and overwhelming slider. I was amazed at how big of the slice of pork belly it was! It was huuuuuge! It was nice and tender; I devoured the whole thing within 10 minutes. The plum sauce was an unusual but pleasant surprise. Pork belly is usually used in a more savory context, so I was intrigued to taste what it would be like in a sweet context. It was actually really good! It went with the meat really well and didn’t compete with the other flavors of the dish. I will definitely be back sometime soon since I’ll only be a 2 minute walk away next year!

Warm hospitality, and delicious food! Happened to find this hidden between an outside food court area in Berkeley. Food was very satisfying!

Just an update on wifi speeds which are 4.27 Mbps download and .61 Mbps upload. I’ve also now tried their shrimp roll which was just as good as their burger in its own way. Additionally, I’ve discovered they have hard ginger ale(delicious) and hard root beer, which is just more to love. I’m a huge fan of this place.

I had a shack burger with a gluten free bun that was out of this world fluffy. The burger as a whole was delicious. The corn dogs are gluten free too! I can’t wait to go back and try more tasty snacks!!!

I’ve seen this place on Unilocal before and made a visit yesterday. I’m not in Berkeley very often, however, yesterday I was in the area to attend an event at the Greek Theater. I wanted to go somewhere prior to show for drinks and dinner and found out that the Snack Shack was nearby. From the pictures online it’s kind of hard to tell how the place is situated — it’s one of many businesses in a outdoor food court. Snack Shack is at the end and there is both indoor/outdoor seating. I got to the Snack Shack around 6pm and it wasn’t too packed(got packed later on when I left around 7pm). I ordered their Sangria, a beer, and the Shack burger and everything came out to about $ 15 bucks — so inexpensive! Great food/drinks, fun place to hang out and inexpensive options. I can definitely see this place being a popular spot — I’ll return again if in the area.

Yummy pork belly sliders — good sized cuts. Fresh chicken in the BBQ chicken sliders. Good location, free parking on street after 6 on weekdays. Seating inside or in common food area — great for socializing.

Let me preface this: I have only eaten one thing from the Snack Shack, but it was so delicious, I will be coming back for that item as often as possible and also potentially branching out and trying new things. My friends know me for having a somewhat irrational love for any dish that involves fries or another potato product(baked potatoes, tater tots, etc.) with stuff on top(poutine, chili cheese fries, etc.), the all-time favorite being carne asada fries. Now, they haven’t lost that top spot, but boy do they have a close second place now — French French Fries from the Snack Shack. What’s makes french fries extra French you ask? Baked brie, shrimp, and a garlic and herb aioli. Yeah, you read that right — SHRIMPANDBRIEONFRIES. Waffle-cut(or crisscut) fries have never been a favorite of mine. The amount of crunchy surface area to soft, fluffy potato insides is really outta whack, but for this dish, it works since it gives a stronger fry to carry the sauce, cheese, and shrimp. I asked for an extra cup of the aioli because I can never have enough of any sort of aioli sauce, but it still wasn’t enough and I ended up throwing away a few crunchy, dry fries. A regular order will run you only $ 8 and a large is $ 12. The regular was pretty big(I didn’t miss those dry fries) so a large must be gigantic. The guy who made my fries was super polite and nice, while the cashier seemed totally clueless(I’d ordered online and he had no idea but never acknowledged my presence at all while I waited). I had gotten a text that my order was ready, but it wasn’t at all close when I got there. it was still just a couple minute wait though. I can’t wait to eat these French French Fries again soon. I’ll certainly be trying out other things from the menu here too. Definitely a gem in Hearst Food Court!

Finally tried this place and I wasn’t disappointed at all. My bf loved the Lamb & Chevre Sliders, which he described as juicy, tender, and full of lamby goodness. The lamb patties are perfectly cooked, pink and moist inside, and topped with rich goat cheese, caramelized onions, and arugula. It might be a bit messy to eat as the delicious juices ooze out of the meat, but according to my bf, the slight grease is worth it. I got the Chicken Apple Whiskey Fennel Corn Dog, which was huge, flavorful, and sophisticated. I could distinctly taste the various spices in the meat. The BBQ sauce was very strong and slightly acidic in taste, adding a great contrast to the deep-fried goodness. We also ordered two sides — cheese styx and cole slaw. The cheese sticks were huge! At first, I thought my corn dog was divided into three medium-sized servings. They definitely don’t skimp on the cheese. I could have eaten this as a meal. It comes with a pesto dipping sauce that was surprisingly not too heavy, but instead refreshing and cool. The cole slaw was light and crisp, which was a great alternative from the heavier dishes we ordered. However, I wish it was more creamy or acidic. The interior décor is hip and trendy. The floor is covered in football turf and the mounted television plays football, perfectly embodying Snack Shack’s laid-back, sports-themed theme. It’s very clean and comfortable inside, and the decorations are minimal but very aesthetically-pleasing. Definitely coming back for the sliders and the deep-fried candy.

The beef and blue sandwich was pretty solid and better than most things you can get near campus. The weird dissonance of cold middle tomato and warm everything else was interesting though I’m not sure if I’d prefer the whole thing to be warmed through. I liked the kick from the horseradish but was disappointed in the relatively unstinky bleu cheese.

A great lunch stop near work. My coworker and I visited here for lunch. It seems to be a two person stop shop. Front counter and back cook. I ordered the regular burger. Considering the work force it came out quite fast. The burger was large in size. This could be due to the bun, but the flavor of the burger was good. Not as good as other places, but I did enjoy the fries that were served with it. The fries was crispy and salted. Just the way it should be. I shall come back for a second visit as the first was just an appetizer. Thanks Snack Shack.

This is my go-to place whenever I want food that is both healthy and deliciously satisfying north of campus! The extensive menu is full of fresh food that is expertly made. My personal favorite thing to order is the portobello sliders along with their ever-changing seasonal salad. I’ve heard their milkshakes are also pretty incredible. Rachel, Scott, and the rest of the crew are always pleasant and fun to be around, and always make sure to have some bacon around when I bring along my dog. They have seating options both indoors and outdoors, and also have a giant TV to watch sports games. They have a few great beers and wines on tap and more beers and ciders available as bottles. I go there often for happy hour from 3 – 6. All in all I definitely recommend that you try this place out if you’re interested in delicious food with fresh ingredients!

The sliders here are really good! My friend and I each got a different slider so we could share and try. We got the Pork Belly($ 7) and Lamb & Chevre sliders($ 7.50). Both were SUPER good. I was surprised at the quality of the food. It could have easily been served at a restaurant or bar. When they said pork belly, oh man they did NOT skimp out on the pork belly. Each slider had a nice big, fat, slice of pork belly. The pork belly was bigger than the slider bun itself, and it was glorious. The pork belly slider also had pickles, pickled onions, and a plum sauce. The fatty pork belly was perfect with the sour pickled onions, pickles, and sweet plum sauce. The Lamb & Chevre sliders were also super delicious. It has goat cheese, caramelized onions & arugula. The lamb was juicy and perfectly cooked, still pink and moist. The rich goat cheese oozed over the slider and melded perfectly with the sweet onions. Needless to say I inhaled those sliders quite quickly. The sliders were a bit pricey at about $ 7, but it definitely reflected the quality of the food. It tasted fresh, gourmet, well-seasoned, and all had great flavor profiles. The décor is really nice, short of a garage/shack theme, with some nice tvs too! The also have regular size burgers, corn dogs, salads, a large assortment of beers, and even deep fried candy! The place can be easy to miss because it’s tucked in the back of a food court(The Northside Asian ghetto), next to campus. But if you’re nearby, it’s a great place for some nicer quality, yummy grub.

(++) Pork Belly Cubano, absolutely delicious. If it’s your first time, get it. It’s the best hot sandwich on Northside; the flavors work really well together and the pork belly is in large, high quality chunks. (+) Truffle Parm Fries. (+) Lamb Sliders. (+) Deep fried candy. (-) Portion sizes are small for the price. Two fish in a fish and chips.

This place is pretty good, but nothing to write home about in my opinion. Course, there’s always Unilocal… I’d give it a 3.5 for quality of food. I ordered buffalo wings and the breakfast burger on a lettuce wrap medium rare. The burger was definitely definitely the highlight of the meal. The wings were bad. Just not good. Super soggy and over-breaded, though the sauce was pretty good(coulda been a bit more spicy). I got take out so maybe that had to do with the soggy wings. The burger was cooked perfectly, the meat tasted alright. Lettuce wrap with all the stuff on it was pretty messy but still managed to be a decent burger. Its on the north side of Berkeley, so Idk how soon I’ll be back, but definitely one of the better Berkeley burger options.

Apparently I have found the new hang out for my Electrical Engineering Computer Science students. Approaching the Snack Shack which is located at the very end of the food alley off Hearst by Euclid, it looks like just a really long counter. However, the business is T-shaped so there is actually a good amount of tables beyond the bar stools you see when approaching. I crave fish and chips at times so I wanted to try this place out instead of heading to Dot Island Grill over on the south side of campus. The fish and chips($ 11 w/o tax) came with two very large deep fried pieces of beer batterer cod, coleslaw, waffle fries, and housemade tartar sauce. Upon cutting into it, you can see a very solid fried batter and flaky fish. Eat this quickly so the batter doesn’t harden too quickly. The waffle fries were also fried very well and you’re given a good serving of it. I’m not much of a coleslaw person but I ate it all. I will definitely be coming back here to try other items and hopefully bump my rating up to a 5. For now, I give it an 4 – 4.5 for the service and the food! Running into my students and chatting with them outside the office… priceless.

As a grad student at Cal who works(and eats lunch) on the north side of campus, I was excited to see that The Snack Shack opened as it is really difficult to find a decent burger close to campus(although a few mediocre places exist). The menu at The Snack Shack is fairly extensive. They offer salads, burgers, sliders, wings, hot dogs, corn dogs, sandwiches, and fried fish. The unfortunate consequence of the diverse menu is that they often seem to be out of items. For example, today one of my friends ordered the turkey panini, and they didn’t have it. I feel like every time I’ve been there, someone has ordered something that they were out of. I’m sure they will fine tune their menu in the future though, so I don’t see this as a big drawback. I’ve tried a couple different things so far: Pork Belly Reuben: Instead of the traditional corned beef, they offer pork belly in their take on a classic. While I enjoyed the saltiness of the pork belly, I feel like the extra fat makes the sandwich a little bit too rich for my taste. Shack Burger: I really enjoy the crispy onion strings on this burger. The patty is well-seasoned, but the cook is between medium rare and rare(closer to rare though). While this may be fine for a steak, I feel like burgers should be between medium rare and medium(unless specified otherwise by the customer). Overall, it was still a good burger though. Waffle fries: These fries are really good, although eating them makes me crave Chick Fil A chicken sandwiches. For the décor of the place, they have astro-turf on the ground, and a large TV playing the PAC12 Network on the back wall. I like the sports bar type of atmosphere they are going for. I’d probably still watch a game at LaVal’s or Daily Pint though solely because this place doesn’t sell beer(as of now). Overall, I like The Snack Shack and think that they make a great addition to the Hearst Food Court.

Post l o’clock Snack Shack was just opening. no patrons, no cashier, no grill man in da house. opening time stated is 11 a.m. just the boss man present, i assume. menu: sliders, burgers, salads, fish & chip, snacks, corn dogs/sausages. eats: beer battered cod(11) coleslaw, waffle fries, homemade tartar sauce. –found no eating utensils nor malt vinegar in box. wanted to pour malt on cod, was told it was in tray. had to return to get utensils, malt vinegar, napkins. –for some reason, cod fell out of it’s fried shell. tasted pure cod, was bland, tasteless. –tartar sauce just mayo+, no tang –waffle fries soggy from malt vinegar? or oil not hot enough. –2 pieces of fish flaky, large. 2ish stars for quality, 3ish for guantity. take outs: –wouldn’t order fish again. maybe a burger or slider or maybe not… –seating available within shop, telly too. –latter cashier inexperienced. didn’t know how to put box of fish & chip into bag. tried putting it straight down, quite impossible since bag too small. had to tell him to put box in sideways. –strong feeling oil not hot enough to fry fish and fries.
