I took a collage workshop at uBe on a Friday evening about a month ago, and I had a wonderful time. The owner/proprietor(sorry, I forgot her name) was welcoming and friendly. She and collagist Katie McCann created a relaxed and fun atmosphere for the workshop, and both were very good about providing assistance if and when needed. All materials were provided, which consisted of glue sticks, scissor, paper and unique original, vintage images to cut out and collage. There were also light refreshments. There is plenty of space to work, as well as lots of natural light and art by local artists. Last but not least, the workshop is an absolute STEAL for the price. Compared to other workshops and classes in the Berkeley/Oakland area, uBe is the most fun and the most art for your buck. I would highly recommend signing up for uBe workshop as an activity for friends, for yourself and your child/teen, for a date, or for something to do if you need to entertain guests. Collage is an easy activity that really allows anyone to create something interesting — as long as you can use a pair of scissors, you’re good to go. By the way, I signed up for a workshop last month just for myself, but afterward, I received an invitation to invite a friend along for free! Which I did, and she had a good time, too. I’m doing another workshop later thus month, with another friend. It’s a great way to relax and do something different, rather than the usual dinner/movie or hike. Lastly, Caffe Trieste is just across the street and it’s open until 10 pm. So when the workshop is done, you can grab a bite to eat and sit down and chat for a bit, which is what my friend and I did afterward.
