After trying to find a kid-friendly space to chat with old pals, we stumbled here. It was spacious and welcoming, though the décor felt like some dated study room from the 70s. Still it was informal, relaxed, and food/drinks came efficiently. Food is average to the extreme, but if you want to escape any sort of scene, it’s a good bet.

Decent brunch place. Reasonable prices(though not as cheap as they used to be). Service is always a little slow but there is rarely a wait for a table, so that’s a trade off. Overall good enough, nothing to write home about.

Would have been 5 stars if there was better, efficient service. I like this place, very spacious with high ceilings — easy seating without a wait. But Sunday morning it appeared there was only one server for the whole place and he wasn’t very good. Forgot what our orders were and kept having to come back to our table. Forgot we asked for ketchup, coffee refill and water. He was perfectly polite, just a little absentminded. Prices were also very reasonable with DELICIOUS eggs Benedict. The hollandaise was perfect. Go if you’re okay with waiting and some wait staff struggles, that would be the only complaint

Our favorite neighborhood breakfast joint. Always has a wait on weekends(a good sign) but they are pretty fast in seating you. The staff is super friendly and helpful but are running around trying to get to everyone’s order so come in with a little patience. The food is wonderful, I’ve tried almost everything and loved it all. My top five are crab benedict, huevos rancheros, curly fries, french toast and any burger. Usually I stick with the classic: bacon, eggs and hash browns. Never disappoints.

Disappointed! I went here this morning only to find egg shell in my eggs. It was horrible! The waitress did bring me another egg but it was runny. The bacon was also not cooked crispy like I had asked. I have had other experiences which were good but this was truly disappointing. In addition they charged me full price. Will not return.

Showed up at 3pm on a Monday. Unilocal says they’re open, sign on their door says they’re open — door was open, I walked in and sit down. 2 minutes later somebody comes up and tells me they’re closed and I have to leave. Change your signs and lock your door when you’re closed. Won’t be coming back.

My favorite neighborhood spot. Lot’s of regulars and thee best Watermelon Mimosas. I can walk there in 10 mins. But it’s my mimosa and laundry day where I totally benefit.

A good chicken sandwich is the fastest way to my heart, and theirs had me swooning. I didn’t expect much. Your typical chicken breast sandwich says the menu. But from the first bite I was on my knees. They marinate that stuff in garlic and some mix of sagey herbs and serve it hot with jack cheese and sautéed onions on a no fuss bun. Got it with curly fries and they bring out this little saucer of ranch. Splash a little tapatio in there and you’ve just made one of the best french fry dips know to man. I’d been here before for brunch and wasn’t too impressed. That’s because I didn’t order the right thing. Get the chicken sandwich! You won’t regret it ;)

The food here is absolutely delicious. I had their banana pancake combo with chicken apple sausage and two eggs! Their fresh squeezed orange juice is to die for, prices were very reasonable too!

Breakfast at The Vault is absolutely delicious! Their fresh squeezed orange juice is always a smart choice to compliment your meal. The croissant French toast is a somewhat lighter alternative to their yummy pancakes so I definitely reccomend it! I had the 2 pancake combo with hash browns, eggs over easy, and the best chicken apple sausage I’ve ever had. My boyfriend has the croissant French toast and hash browns so i got to sample that too. The Vault has a nice, chill vibe. The food is delicious and it is priced very well. The service was good too. We were greeted promptly, the server was very welcoming, and the quality of our food was excellent!

Friendly customer service We ordered Turkey sandwich that comes on focaccia bread, provolone, grilled onions. Turkey was very very salty, Red potato salad had too much vinegar but tasty for homemade. Spinach omelet was as you would cook at home — egg and spinach and nothing else

My favorite breakfast place! The staff couldn’t be nicer. The prices are great! Bicycle parking out front. Easy parking on the weekends(I never go during the week, so who knows). A short walk from Ashby BART. Great food! My only concern is that by giving a great review I might have to wait for a table in the future.

I ordered the special salad: shrimp, avocado and feta. I guess I should’ve known better. The place is super dirty with very few customers. The waitstaff is nice, but very slow. My salad consisted of slimy shrimp, unripe refrigerated tomatoes, no feta, sliced black olives, approximately half of a red onion, and what tasted like Paul Newman’s vinaigrette. I will say that they weren’t stingy with the avocado. I do appreciate that. The décor reminds me of Mexican restaurant circa 1996. Do not come here.

Always get great customer service from this place! I’ve never had a bad experience. I work near by and the salads are awesome! This chicken Caesar salad I just got is perfect. Warm fresh cooked chicken!!! Omg. And the dressing is made at the restaurant! The staff is always nice to me! Five stars!!!

Vault Café is a great place to go for lunch, or brunch. I personally think South Berkeley could use more restaurants and coffee shops, so Volt Café is a good start. It is on Adeline street, but somewhat away from the traffic. The first think you notice when you go there in is the interior — it has high sealing and interesting decorative walls, solid, wooden tables and of course, a vault. I love a restaurant with a personality. The second thing you notice is its easy-going unpretentious atmosphere. You are greeted and sited right away, you get to choose your table, and you are offered a glass of water immediately. Their menu is abundant; they offer a variety of sandwiches, omelets, burgers, pasta dishes and 11 salads. Their sandwiches are served on tasty focaccia bread, sourdough or whole wheat breads and come with potato salad, lettuce, tomato and onion on the side. I had the Chicken Breast sandwich, with rosemary and provolone cheese — it was creamy and delirious, and melted in my mouth. I have had also the turkey sandwich, which had a home-made fresh oven roasted taste, and the Club House Sandwich with eggplant, avocado & turkey on sliced sourdough. The price is very reasonable $ 6.99– $ 8.99 for a sandwich. I highly recommend the home-made lemonade and their coffee drinks. Just writing about it made me want to have lunch there. I am going tomorrow.

Very low quality ingredients, boring menu, and spotty service. I’ve been a handful of times, but the last straw was the omelet I had today. Raw red onions(with the skin still on) and sliced cheddar cheese, unmelted. So gross. And the server forgot my toast. Only positive was that the food came out quick, but that’s probably due more to the empty dining room than the skill of the kitchen staff. Will not be coming back.

Stopped by this place before looking at an open house and it would definitely be a plus point for this area! Every bite was good! Here’s what we thought notable: –regular pancakes were fluffy and chewy, just the right texture –custom omelette with pesto, you could really taste the pesto and it was great! –home fries are a soft potato with a garlicky glaze or something yummy Service and price were great too! Got out for $ 20 for two.

Of all the breakfast spots in all of North Oakland/Berkeley, I had to walk into this place. I suppose if I’d read my Unilocal reviews I would have known better. There are some«greasy spoons» that are cannot-miss spots as much for their kitchy appearance and fun staff as the heart-attack-inducing-but-damn-it-is-good food. The Vault is NOT one of those places. The Vault is one of those places that would be great if I were 22 years old and wickedly hung over, except that the giant room was so noisy I think I’d be in tears. As it was, my wife and I were just trying to get brunch. We were sat by one person rushing around the restaurant, ignored for 5 minutes, then asked by 3 different servers what we’d like to drink. Food-wise it was the regular«greasy spoon» fare. Nothing stood out as «world famous» or «our specialty». I got a «tofu scramble» which was really just fried tofu with red onions, mushrooms and broccoli. A scramble it was not, but save for the excessive oil it was not terrible and fairly healthy. My wife got some other scramble that was(again) not terrible but nothing to write home about. Two stars because the food wasn’t horrible, but I won’t be back.

We really enjoyed our Sunday visit to the Vault Café. We were actually headed to Easy Creole, but turns out they are closed on Sundays… ooops. Great neighborhood crowd in a relaxed atmo and inexpensive and good breakfast fare. The hash browns were mighty tasty and crispy. Apple sausage a little too sweet for my taste and the waffle on the«cakey» side as opposed to light and fluffy. Absolutely delicious rye toast. I’d go back!

The ambience is chill, the décor is rustic and joint-y, the customer service is on point, and the food is home-y and delicious. Thus far, I’ve tried their Walnut Chicken Salad and Jambalaya(a tad salty but it’s jambalaya). Great place to have breakfast and lunch since they have a great variety of dishes that will fit into anytime of the day.
