I’m in complete agreement with A.V.‘s post below. Dr Whitmer is a profoundly good listener on all sense levels; the taking of the pulse a la Chinese Medicine, listening to the patient’s problems, tongue diagnosis, voice diagnosis, facial diagnosis. Listening is where diagnosis begins and continues. I can’t tell you how many traditional acupuncturists I went to who would merely answer with «Don’t worry, I can fix», leaving it at that. Having lived in Asia a number of years, having been treated by a multitude of Chinese and Japanese acupuncturists, I can truthfully say that Dr. Whitmer not only has a grip on the Chinese methods of treatment but given his allopathic background, has the added ability to translate virtually every problem into any term that the patient feels comfortable with giving him a ‘step-​up’ on the competition. Personal past experiences usually resulted in feeling groggy, less well, as it were, following treatments. I have to say that visiting Dr. Whitmer has changed my whole perspective on Acupuncture treatment. I now feel energized, well rested and ready to go after each treatment rather than the ‘olé sluggish feelings I use to have after seeing other ‘so called’ good practitioners. In other words, he’s opening the channels for the ‘chi’ to flow as it should. If you are not experiencing change then I’d think twice about who you are seeing. Stagnation is the source of most disease. Dr. Whitmer’s treatment is anything but stagnant.

Probably the best acupuncturist /​herbalist you’re ever going to find. If you want a doctor who will completely listen to every symptom you have and come up with a plan for dealing with it he’s your man. I really like it that he’s an MD too so you’ve got the whole spectrum of treatment options covered. He is single handedly responsible for me not becoming a an addict to pain killers a few years ago, and for that I will be eternally greatful. I reccomend him to everyone that I know that has issues with pain. He and his wife are also super sweet so it’s fun to go by and say hi.
