I always come here for Jack to get «undercut» hair style. He took time to cut my hair even though there were customers waiting for him. No rush!

Jenn has been cutting my hair for a long time now, and they’re the best haircuts I’ve ever gotten. She’s always open to any changes I want as well. As always, the store is clean and nicely designed.

I have been going to Zip Clips for over a year and I can’t believe I haven’t written a review yet. I can’t imagine going anywhere other than Jenn to get my haircut. Every time I go, I tell her what I want and she always nails it to a tee, which is so hard to find. It is so typical to tell a stylist what you have in mind and they try to sway you in another direction but she take what I want and makes it look even better than I imagined. I hadn’t had a hair cut in what felt like years, but she brought it back to life with some layers and was still able to keep the length. This is the only place I will definitely come back for my hair cut and colored.

Was looking for a new stylist closer to where I work. Heard about this place from a friend. Went to check it out this morning. My stylist was Lam. Very nice guy. He works Tuesday and Wednesday. Showed him a picture of what I wanted and he did the rest. Fast and efficient. Very happy with my haircut. Would book with him again.

I am super impressed with Zip Clips for 3 reasons:
1) Jenn gave me the best haircut of my life! I saw her for the first time last month after I got the worst perm of my life at Zuni Salon in Oakland (see my last review.) Zuni Salon turned my long, silky hair into a shoulder-​length afro, and Jenn fixed it by giving me the exact short cut & shave I asked for. I see Jenn now every 2 weeks for a shape-​up and am 100% satisfied with her work every time. Jenn is very sweet and the best at what she does!
2) Today, I went balayage blonde for the first time in my life and it went perfectly because John did my color. I am sooooo happy with how it turned out! I had been discussing going blonde wth Jenn and she recommended John’s great work. She was not wrong– John is such a technically-​proficient colorist and perfectionist. He rescued me from the bronze-​orange box color I stupidly gave myself a week ago, and went the extra mile to ensure that it was the exact color I envisioned. Now I have a perfect blend of platinum and icy blonde on top with dark brown roots that brilliantly transition into the blonde. Stay tuned for pictures of the amazing work from both Jenn & John.
3) Very affordable! $ 20 for Jenn’s haircut & shave, $ 100 for John’s balayage/​haircut/​blowout combo– you can’t beat these prices for the amount of skill you receive ANYWHERE in the Bay Area!

I’m really impressed with the quality for the price. I have medium length hair with a bit of wave which some hair stylist can really mess up. The lady cutting my hair is Jenn I believe. I gave her a picture of the popular messy bob and she executed exactly like I asked her. She stopped and asked me questions as she went.
My friend who went with me had an Asian lady and her hair cut turned out really cute too.
Overall I would recommend this to anyone who’s looking for a good quality cut in Berkeley. Don’t be intimidated by how many men come here. Turns out they are really skilled with women too unlike a lot of the cheaper places around campus. Also the modern décor and check in is an added bonus.

I’ve never dyed my hair before and this was my first time. I was really nervous but things turned out to be amazing. The Vietnamese guy named John was so great! I successfully changed my hair color from black to burgundy. I love it!

John Nguyen’s an absolute genius! He’s fun to talk to and as hospitable as a hairstylist can get. (:
I wanted grey/​silver hair (see reference photo) and was so impressed with the devotion he put into my hair. I came in at 11am and left at about 5pm, but it was well worth the hours! We talked, sang, ate, shared stories, and at the end of the session we were so impressed with the results (see before and after pics below)! He bleached, toned, blow-​dried, and cut my hair with the patience and humor of a good friend! After years of being terrified of going to the salon, I’ve got to say I’ve found a hairstylist I will be loyal to.

I joined five stars long time ago and got a birthday bonus for the haircut for only $ 10 at Zip Clips. Therefore I went over but then the hairstylist told me that the bonus does not count?! And asked me to go ask their manager, even manager wasn’t here today?! The worst experience ever…

do not, I repeat do not let that blond guy with glasses cut your hair, he messed up my edge fade and think it’s ok letting me walk out like that. but the rest staff are awsome, sorry I had to give 1 star just for that guy.

Terrible, terrible experience. I got my hair cut with an asian man named Jack. First off, he doesn’t speak English well so communicating with him is hard enough, but to make the matter worse, he barely communicates with you AT ALL about the haircut.
I sat down and told him I wanted a combover style cut and a taper on the sides and back. Before even asking what size I want, he grabs his clipper and starts cutting with a size #1. To make matters even worse, he didn’t even taper the sides. He just pressed the 1 against my sides and back. Absolutely no attention to detail. There are a bunch of uneven lumps between the top and the back of my hair. It honestly felt like he had no clue what he was doing at all.
Don’t let the modern design of this place fool you. There is a reason this place is virtually empty, despite it being so close to campus.

It’s an okay place. A little expensive for the quality of the cut.

Ben offered a free cut to give them another chance after my poor experience there last time. The second time around was much better. I liked my cut, and the stylist was very nice and knew what she was doing. No complaints! Good work, y’all.

I really liked this place the first time I went but the other day when only one woman was there, the quality wasn’t nearly as good as my first time. My hair still looks uneven and funny almost a week later.

This place is incredible… and it’s not just because of the haircut. I happened to be in Berkeley last weekend and needed a haircut before a 2-​week vacation I had been planning, so I decided to check this place out.
Clean environment, cool set-​up with music videos playing in the background, cordial stylist, great cut, couldn’t ask for much more. But as it would turn out, I did in fact get much more than I paid for.
Just to show you how much customer experience means to these guys, I carelessly happened to leave my sunglasses on the workstation. Long story short, the owner, Ben, drove all the way up from Santa Clara to Berkeley, picked up my glasses, then drove all the way across to SF just to make sure I could have my sunglasses before my vacation. Totally didn’t need to do that, but he insisted that I have a positive experience with Zip Clips
Talk about going to the next level… can’t say enough about these guys. They realize it’s not just the haircut, but the overall experience. Incredible.

No wait — and an efficient cut in 20 minutes. I’d recommend it highly.
$ 15 plus tip. Can’t beat that.

Usually a fan of this place but got a haircut today that was just plain rushed. The stylist maybe spent 8 mins cutting my hair and when I got home I realized all of the edges were messed up and the attention to detail was just careless.
This is coming from a guy who usually is not very picky with my haircuts… this place is too hit or miss for me to try again. Also the iPad checkin system seems arbitrary since there are rarely other customers.

The price is great, and it’s rarely a long wait.
I’ve gotten haircuts from everyone there, but Jenn is my absolute favorite. She knows exactly what to do and does it quickly. She is a joy to chat with and is incredibly patient.
I really love this place, especially compared to other hair salons near UC Berkeley.

Went in because they had a $ 10 (without tips) haircut promotion — usual is $ 15. Nonetheless, the hairdresser, whom I remember as Jen, was meticulous and cut my hair pretty well.
She clarified with me to make sure she understood what I wanted for my haircut, so you can ensure that you get the haircut that you want!
Furthermore, they just renovated, and it’s a pretty nice place to cut hair in (:

I have been here twice and I have had to different hair cut experiences. The first time, the Asian lady cut my hair. She took her time and meticulously went through everything twice. I was surprised how well it was for a $ 15 hair cut.
Today, I just went in there again and this time I had the bigger lady. She gave me the worst hair cut I have ever gotten. All I asked for was to have the sides buzzed and clean up the top (longer hair). She started my buzz from the top of my head going side ways with the buzzer rather then from bottom up going vertical with the buzzer. Now the «side» of my head starts on the top. One side of the buzz is straight where was the other side curves onto the top. She buzzed off my whole part on one side. When asked to clean up the top and thin it out, she just clipped a few pieces and thinned everything so there are lots of uneven ends from growth and random chunks of stray hair from the horrible buzz she did. I mean it was $ 10 yeah but I could have gotten a simple buzz on the sides and have it cleaned up at supercuts and a blind person would have done it better and done it the right way.
Both the ladies customer services was great but this time around and even the last time I was in and saw the larger lady, she did not want to be there at all. Would never have her cut it again.
