We haven’t got our check yet but I think our server died because we haven’t seen her in 15 minutes and the table next to us has been waiting even longer for theirs. Anyway, Zut! Has some pretty delicious food. I would go for the tomato and strawberry salad, it’s rather small. Good for a solo starter but it is very tasty and worth the 6 $. Shared the prosciutto pizza which was also good although a little heavy on the EVOO. The Bloody Mary is totally NOT worth $ 11. That was with well vodka I assume too. Yikes. Side comment: love that they give the checks in old books, the cute touch almost made up for how long the server took to give us our bill.

Omg I can’t believe this restaurant is closed! Zut! was one of my favorite restaurants along the Fourth Street, and I’ve been here at least three to four times with friends. Everything about Zut! is a recipe for a wonderful dining experience — from the ambience(one of the rooms has a retractable ceiling for pleasant summer days), to the quick service, and to of course the delicious food. My favorite thing to order at Zut! was their pizza, specially the Four Cheese and wild Nettles, which wasn’t just like any other four cheese pizza. The pizza has a bit of spice and acidity due to the chili and lemon, leading to a flavor explosion in your mouth. In general the pizzas were all very unique, and for me were the stars of Zut!‘s menu. It’s such a shame this restaurant is closed, as I would have liked to come back and enjoy that pizza one more time.

Visited Zut! on its 2nd day of opening. I expected some delays, perhaps a bit of confusion in our orders as we were a party of 12, instead we had a great service. Each request was fulfilled and the food was just simply delicious! The menu contained a variety of decadent dishes from the octopus to squid ink carbonara. Kudos to Chef Nathan’s creativity, especially the table-side preparation of the corn risotto cooked atop a cheese barrel. It was both entertaining and delectable. I could bathe in it!

What can I say about this place. We love it!!! The mushroom risotto is amazing. But do order the rotisserie chicken it’s to die for warm welcoming atmosphere great for family and more wonderful for date night. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. Make reservations of you want a specific time and come hungry. Can’t wait to try more on the menu.

We went to celebrate my girlfriend birthday party. It’s my second time eating in this restaurant. They have a great menu. The food very delicious, and most of all the atmosphere is different from other restaurants. We all enjoyed yesterday night!!! Will come back here :)

Second time at Zut! My wife had the fig salad which she described as lousy and a not very good quinoa salad. I had excellent house specialty fried Brussels sprouts, an acceptable Bloody Mary, and a truly tasteless maitake mushroom risotto — could not taste mushrooms and the arborio rice felt slightly undercooked. Granted a great mushroom risotto is hard to make for many but if you are going to put it on your menu then do it great.

Fulfills all the checks in my book– good food, service, and environment. I’ll put my exclamation mark on Zut — — – Zut! We came for Sunday brunch around 11:30am. We originally weren’t planning on coming here, but we were happy we did. The hostess was friendly, seating us immediately. The service was fast and efficient– we got our food within 5 minutes of ordering. I like the layout of this place. It’s conducive to families and big groups, and it’s clear that a lot of people like coming here. It’s a more upscale restaurant with a down-to-earth vibe. Now for zee food: — I got the ahi tuna nicoise salad. Tuna was cooked nicely, and I like the salad dressing and freshness. The hardboiled egg came with anchovies on the top. — I tried the mushroom omelette, and I liked it. A LOT. The combination of braised greens, onions, and thick maitake mushrooms– all tied together with fontina cheese– mmhmmm… I’m a fan! Line me up! The potatoes and toast on the side were pretty standard. — We saw a lot of people order the brioche french toast and beignets. If you gotta sweet tooth, this place will satisfy your cravings. The lamb meatballs and fried brussel sprouts sides are popular, but unfortunately they don’t offer them for weekend brunch. =(Que lastima, woe is me. Oh well, guess I’ll get them when I come back for dinner.

I went here on a whim after a visit to the Apple store which is basically across the street. Some people have said this before, but the fried Brussels sprouts are amazing. Other than that I had the sausage and farm egg pizza. It was really big for one person, at a pretty reasonable price. The pizza was $ 16 and I ate it for two meals — it was delicious cold for breakfast the next morning, especially since it had an egg. My dining partner(boyfriend) had the burger and fries. I forgot to ask him how the burger was but I stole some fries and they were pretty tasty as well. I love sitting outside with the fairy lights, it was a nice, cozy environment, for being outside. My only complaint was that the server seemed really tired, which is more of an indictment on the management than the server herself. She was really nice otherwise so I gave her a good tip and hope she gets to take a nap soon.

The restaurant reminds me of a French bistro. The tables are dressed in white tablecloths and linens. The décor was very classy with beautiful flower displays in vases. We dropped in for a late lunch and were seated immediately by a very nice hostess. We ordered the Trout salad, the chicken pannini, and the falafel. Everything was delicious! The falafel was the most delicious falafel that I have ever tasted! Our waiter was very nice and the service was on point and exact. We will definitely be back!

Started with wine. I had the white blend, very fruity. Great taste. Friend tried the tap red wine and loved it. It’s a very dry wine so you have to love a dry red to enjoy. Ordered the octopus for an appetizer and the sauce was amazing. Kind of like a salmon/fresh fish taste but the citrus makes it pop. Brussels sprouts roasted perfectly. Squeeze a bit of lemon to make it pop. For entrees one friend got the sole and loved it. Served with a side of Jo Jo’s potatoes. Potatoes were very filling and the sole has a great flavor profile. I got the grass fed ribeye. Get it with the spinach and mashed potatoes instead of the Yukon gold. Words can’t explain how good it is. Seasoning on the steak was fabulous. Order medium rare for the best flavor. Another friend got the pasta with the sausage and peppers. Noodles a little big. Preferred a smaller noodle. Flavors good especially when you add additional pepper. Homemade sausage was amazing. Another friend got the arugula and sausage pizza. Crust is good and crispy, a little bland. Toppings really good but need a bit more flavor.

Zut seems to be getting tired. The food is barely passing grade now, a little too average, with dishes that are feel similar to everybody else’s. Nothing bad, but nothing especially noteworthy or creative, either. There were four of us, all of us had three courses, so we covered a lot of the menu. But it was just… dull. Lunchtime doesn’t offer their best dish, the whole grilled petrale sole.

Zut is my old reliable in Berkeley. It’s in a fancy(ish) neighborhood, which pleases both fussy parents and friends who think they’re upscale/classy. There are a few things on the menu that rock, i.e. best chicken you will ever eat(and you’re talking to the person who thinks chicken is always dry and pointless). And it’s always packed, but not too packed that you can’t book a table the night of. Two reasons I can’t give 5 stars: 1. There is a bartender at Zut who has a head full of cheese! I order Manhattans wherever I go. At Zut, as usual, I ordered a Manhattan, and this guy brought me a Manhattan that neither looked nor tasted anything like the drink I know and love. When I(politely!) asked if there was something different about the drink, he assured me that, having just come from tending bar in New York City, his Manhattans were the real deal; this was how they were supposed to be made. So, first of all, why the attitude, bro? Second, I just moved here from Brooklyn, NY, and no one there serves horrible not-really-a-Manhattan Manhattans like this guy! Yikes. 2. My boyfriend is a vegetarian, and I’m sorry to say the menu is not super forgiving of vegetarians. He always orders the plainest pizza he can find and then complains all the way home that it wasn’t very good.

CRISPYSMELTS! That is why I keep coming back here. I’m too lazy to deep fry anything, so whenever I get a craving for this savory crunchy little things, I just have to pop in here for dinner. The hubby first had them at Kokkari years ago when I introduced him to his first«nose to tail» seafood eating experience, and loved it. We were very happy to find out that the Greeks love smelt as well when we traveled for a month in Greece when we first married. The Sausage and Farm Egg Pizza is also one of my favorites here. One of us usually gets that as a main course, while the other tries something new or order the Bucatini. Other good starters we’ve had here are the lamb meatballs(the hubby’s choice), the Meze Platter(great to share in a larger group) and the Wild Arugula Salad. The last dessert I had here was the Pumpkin Bread Pudding during HH with Isabella B. and we weren’t that impressed with it. It was too dry. I’ve had the Pot de Crème here in the past and it’s good. Most of the time, I get a cocktail here. The last cocktail I had was St. Germain one mixed by the server himself. Yum! Can’t go wrong with St. Germain. The wine here is also good. The hubby has yet to drink a glass of wine he did not like here. We had brunch on our last visit and we started with the Beignets with Strawberry Jam. Delicious! They were perfect with our coffees. I had the Sausage and Farm Egg Pizza and my husband had the Bacon Omelette which he really enjoyed. Service is consistently attentive. We’ve never had a bad experience with wait times for food or getting our server’s attention. Location is really ideal. I love shopping at Sur La Table as I am as much an avid cook as I am an avid Unilocaler, and this place is just around the corner from Sur La Table. So many good shops nearby! Next visit will definitely have to be dinner time! I have a feeling I’m gonna have a craving for some crispy smelts soon!

Flavor… check. Atmosphere…check. Service…check. Cocktails…check. Love the fried Brussel sprouts and the grass-fed beef Zut! Burger. The salads are above average also, which says a lot for salad. The outside seating is very nice also and less noisy than the interior. My only complaint is the toilet facilities, which is sparse at only two.

I think this deserves more of a 3.5 stars. The prices are very reasonable. I ordered the brioce french toast($ 10) and side of bacon($ 4). It was good, but not the greatest. The insides of the toast were like super soggy, and the crust tasted very savory. The bacon was just like regular bacon I could have bought at Safeway. I feel like restaurants should always have like awesome thick cut bacon because they’re a restaurant, but who knows. Overall, I would probably come back if it was convenient, but probably wouldn’t crave it.

Standard new American establishment. Worth going here. Vegetarian may approve. Four stars(One extra star for on point and super attentive service, from point of making resv. to our jovial and knowledgeable server). Food in my opinion was bland but well crafted. I grew up in middle eastern home, so I’m a harsh critic when it comes flavor, my taste buds may be a bit over worked… I asked for red chili flakes for my four cheese and wild nettles pizza,(well balanced, right 4 cheese pair to complement the nettle), eggplant and tomato soup app. was still way too bland for new American menu(flavorfull and savory croutons nice touch.) No wait pretty empty on a Saturday night, located in midst of beautiful 4th st. Extensive wine list(california). Modern, some what romantic décor. Website states ‘hand crafted cocktails.‘ Pumpkin bread pudding had perfect hint of spices, topped with home made* whipp. cream, downside surpise was the added raisons, right amount just not a fan of raisons in my deserts.

Good quality food with reasonable pricing! I just really wanted to say ZOOTSUITRIOT while I was dining here, but I chose not to… a wise decision, yes? Regardless, this is a great place to eat if you’re strolling around the cute little shops on 4th street. They offer a happy hour and«afternoon snack» menu that has appetizers and some but a limited selection of entrees/pizzas and goes from 3:30 — 5:30pm. Dinner starts at 5:30 pm and because we arrived at 5:15, the dinner menus weren’t printed yet. We sat down and started with an appetizer until the dinner menus were available. ATMOSPHERE: cute, romantic, good for families/bigger parties and couples or single diners alike. Dimly lit for the ambiance. Sound doesn’t echo so you can have intimate conversations. Nice décor and lighting. Inside and outside seating with heaters. The outside seating is adorned with cute lights. Free plentiful parking! FOOD: I guess the theme of the restaurant is more mediterranean? Regardless, I highly recommend the MEZEPLATTER appetizer to start off. It’s quite large with hummus, eggplant tapenade, pickles, olives, and pita. Everything was delicious. We also split the twice cooked ROTISSERIECHICKEN per recommendation of our server. This was spot on because it came with the famous BRUSSELSPROUTS that everyone talks about, and for good reason. The chicken was moist and the sides complimented it perfectly. I also shared the mussel appetizer with my mom but the mussels were small and the dish was unremarkable. The beers they had were also good and they have an extensive wine list. SERVICE: top notch, pleasant, helpful, accommodating, all that good stuff. Our waitress who was also our hostess gave us the dinner menu right when it was printed. She gave perfect recommendations and the food all came out in a timely manner. Overall, the value of the food here is great. For those 2 appetizers, entrée, and 2 drinks, the total was $ 61. What great quality coupled with the on point service and ambiance, and bang for your buck! 10⁄10 would eat here again if I were in the area.

Furniture shopping can be tiring, especially when it’s not your furniture you’re shopping for, but my friend and I needed nourishment before she decided on which sofa to buy at Restoration Hardware across the street. As anyone knows, Fourth Street can be quite a zoo on a Saturday afternoon, and it’s feeling more like an outlet mall these days than what it once was, an eclectic showcase for the West Berkeley artist community. But commercial survival is what it is, so I won’t complain the next time I need a set of bargain-priced wine goblets from Crate & Barrel. We ended up going to Zut! simply because we were walking by it. I still recall this expansive space in its various identities from previous years — Fourth Street Grill, Ginger Island, Eccolo — neither of the latter two left a strong impression on me. Zut! didn’t really break that pattern with its Mediterranean-flavored, California-style selections, but the brunch menu is reasonably satisfying if you stick with their standbys(photo: ). We decided to order salads and share a pizza, a good strategy for a light lunch. She went for the $ 10 Baby Head Lettuces with Dried Mission Figs and Pine Nuts and drizzled with a Fig Balsamic Vinaigrette(photo: ). It was relatively unadorned for the price but definitely fresh tasting. Mine was the $ 10 Roasted Beets with Ruby Grapefruit, Oranges, Avocado, Mint and Feta Cheese and doused with Olive Oil(photo: ). It was tasty but really more an appetizer portion. What finally satisfied was the $ 15 Wild Nettles & Four Cheese Pizza, quite a cheesy pie topped with Hot Cherry Peppers, Green Onions, Curled Lemon Rinds and Garlic Oil(photo: ). The thin crust wasn’t too chewy, and the lemon brought an unexpected freshness to the creation. Splitting six pieces turned out to be not a problem. The wait staff handled the crowded dining area fairly well as most of the tables were taken over by large families. Dinner here may be worth a shot. FOOD — 4 stars… fresh and tasty based on the pizza and salads, can’t comment on the rest of the menu AMBIANCE — 3 stars… the crowded dining room made it hard to enjoy what looks to be a nice setting with skylights, sidewalk seating and earth tones SERVICE — 3.5 stars… pretty good considering how much attention the other tables needed TOTAL — 4 stars… solid brunch spot provides refreshing eats within a hectic shopping corridor

My obnoxious friend and I were going to go to Bette’s after a Unilocal event, but the wait was 45 minutes. Zut! is right across the street and on my bookmarks. There were no tables available in the dining room, but plenty in the bar. I have to thank the waitress for dealing with my friend and being a good sport. She was very nice and made sure we were taken care of. I ordered the Chorizo Hash and my friend got the Sausage & Farm Egg Pizza with Pepperoni added. The hash was pretty good. It was suppose to have poached eggs, but they were overcooked. Oh well. My friend’s pizza wasn’t too bad either. I’d like to come back here again and try something else from their menu. And possibly try a cocktail or two :)
