This guy knows his store and he has a lot of selection. His kid’s selection isn’t great but most used book stores I find don’t have a huge children’s section. One downside, if you are trying to sell a book, don’t bother. You won’t get almost anything back. However, he is very fair with trades. He has two friendly dogs which I think add to the charm of the place and he always gives my daughter a treat to feed to them, which she thinks is the greatest. Oh and I love his slogan: Books without batteries :)

If you love browsing through used books — this is the store for you. Mac, the owner, has assembled a huge collection of all types and styles of books, including books for kids! He has literally, something for everyone. Give yourself time to meander and enjoy this fun place. It’s a book lovers store! Mac does have a couple of small dogs in the store, but they are very sweet and easy going.

The first thing that strikes you going into this shop is the smell– there isn’t one. Unlike a lot of used book stores, you don’t feel like you may go into respiratory arrest every time you inhale. The second thing that strikes you is the owner. Mac is a charming and genial fellow who’s friendly to a fault, and knowledgeable and honest about his stock. While the store specializes in literature, you’ll find a wide selection of books from every genre. Sailing fans will find a good selection of books– Mac is an ardent small boat sailor. I often go in to look for history books. And there’s a fine selection of things like SF, fantasy and romance for fans of those genres. If you’re a fan of old radios, you’ll find an interesting collection of these on the tops of the bookshelves as you walk through the store. Mac is a collector, and a fount of information about old radios and electronics, too. All in all, my favorite used bookstore in the Woodward corridor.

I’ve been to downtown Berkley many times but I’ve never noticed this store. Maybe it’s because there is no sign except«Books Open» in neon. Jeffrey B. and I stopped in today. The store is long and lined with shelves of used books. There seemed to be a lot of interesting non-fiction books. As far as fiction goes there was a lot of mystery/thriller, contemporary literature, traditional literature and some other random books. There was a decent selection of sci-fi and fantasy in the back with some newer selections mixed with older books. The pricing generally is ½ off the list price. I think this is a tad expensive, especially for older, well worn used books. Some of the books were marked down less, even down to $ 1.00. Maybe you just have to search for a good deal. Overall, this is a decent used bookstore. The proprietor was friendly. He has two dogs in the store. I assume they are both mutts, but I’m not really a dog connoisseur. I think one of the dogs only had one eye. In case you’re wondering I bought a book based on the TV show«Murder, She Wrote» called«Gin and Daggers». I’ll let you know what sticky situation Jessica Fletcher gets into this time.
