If you are tired heading to the big box stores(i.e. Home Depot and Lowes) on the Berlin Turnpike to take care of your seasonal plant needs, then I highly suggest you take a short trip off the beaten path and head down the road to Cold Spring Brook Farm. I have been coming here for several years — first I came as a condo co-owner each spring to purchase annuals to spruce up my walkway. As the years went on Mark C and I expanded our purchases to include perennials, herbs and eventually vegetables after we(meaning Mark C) built a raised 8×10 bed. Each year we have hardly ever been disappointed with both the selection and with the case of the herbs and vegetables — their production. Yes they carry a large number of tomato(Roma, Big Boy, Cherry) varieties including several heirloom ones but if you take the time to look around and explore you are sure to find things that the big box stores do not carry. Think mixed greens, egg plant, corn and kale This past fall we purchased a house and with that of course we need plants but not just plants, this will be the first year that we will be able to have a proper garden. You can rest assured that we will be coming here. In addition to plants as the growing season continues — be sure to come back and check out their selection of fresh fruits and vegetables. Their prices a very comparable to the grocery stores but even if they are a bit higher there is nothing like getting and eating produce picked that very day.
