Garing House

I was traveling in the area on a Saturday afternoon and wanted to see what downtown Berne was all about.
I selected the Gathering House to stop for lunch. They have separate breakfast hours & lunch hours (11am — 2pm). I missed lunch, but walked thru the antiques and assorted goods. Lots to see upstairs.
They have antiques, both in furniture and furnishings, old toys and other collectibles, dishes, silverware, quilts, paintings, repurposed items in the back.
It’s worth a visit, especially if you like older items from days past.

Food is always fresh. Homemade bread, soups and pastries. They have a core menu and menu of the day options. I love the turkey club sandwich and chili. It’s always busy at lunch with locals. The staff is friendly and helpful.
There are two floors of antiques and craft items. If you are a shabby chic fan you can find some of those items here as well.
Fun place!

We come here every time we go to Berne! The food is really good and they have an antique shop as well! Love it!

I was really happy when we walked in here to look at the menu. My other choices were McDonald’s and Subway! Ick! I wanted a real, local meal. And that’s what I got!
Let me start by saying that 4 of us eating lunch here cost $ 14. Yes, really. It was cheap! I ordered the pretzel with cheese and a side salad. Both were fresh and good. the grilled cheese on homemade break also looked really good. The menu isn’t extensive — some sandwiches and salads, and a couple other things. There area a lot of baked goods, all of which look DELICIOUS. I got a dozen cookies to go (about 75 cents each). We took them to a family reunion and they were a hit. They have a lot of flavors and they are huge. I was dying to try some pie or a cinnamon roll, but I refrained. Something to loook forward to next time!
We looked around the shop, which is a hodgepodge of items. From holiday things to quilts to dishware to furniture. Saw a lot of interesting things for cheap, but nothing enough to buy. It’s fun to look!
I’d suggest checking this place out to browse or to have a light meal — or dessert!
