Breakfast is fantastic. Atmosphere is awesome. People are great. This is my favorite place in Berthoud. If you have never been then you are missing out.

Wow, this place continues to impress us. We have made this a regular stop now for the past two years, and will continue our trend. The owner is an exceptional person and treats everyone with respect. I can’t say enough good things about this wonderful establishment.

Really cute local coffee shop where you can also get a hot meal! The coffee is self serve, and tasty! They are doing their part for the environment by offering spaghetti noodles for coffee stirrers. One bummer thing is I couldn’t get the wifi to work on my phone or iPad.

I really really wanted to like this place, but I was quite disappointed. I think the food was pretty good, but the service was a major let down. We went this morning for breakfast and ordered 2 vanilla lattes, a vanilla steamer, an omelette, pancakes/eggs for my son, and an egg/cheese/bacon croissant. The food was pretty delish, although the underside of the omelette was pretty burned… not just overcooked and brown, but borderline black. I don’t mind most things being«caramelized,» but charred eggs are not ok. Was a bummer because the ham was absolutely delicious. My husband asked the waitress if that was normal and she said yes and didn’t seem to really care that he had an issue with it. The service was also slow(I think they forgot my croissant as it came out 10 mintues after my husband’s food… which came out 5 minutes after my son’s food). After our lattes finally cooling off, I was able to have about 8 sips of it before I could no longer take the sickening sweetness of the vanilla syrup. I am not a huge fan of super sweet things, but my husband is and it was too sweet for him too! He took them to the counter and what they SHOULD have done is either re-make the drinks, or given us back our money, especially as it was obvious we had a problem as they were full. They did neither. My husband did get a regular cup of coffee, but that was it. So basically, we paid over $ 7 for a regular cup of coffee. As I said, we were really really hoping to love this place. Locally owned as far as I could tell and we wanted to support that. But the lack of any care for the fact that we had some issues will make me never return. I can excuse bad food, but not poor service. $ 27 for what ended up being about $ 10 of what we could eat/drink was not the best introduction to a town where we are looking to buy a house. Hoping they hire waitresses in the future that have some kind of clue about customer service.

Berthoud really needs a good breakfast spot. Da bean has a breakfast menu, but service for food is S… L…O…W… Considering the only other option for breakfast in this town is Grandpas café,(worst /dirtiest greasy diner ever) it might just be worth the wait. bottomless coffee is good, and they do have free wireless internet while you wait. A true breakfast cook in the kitchen would make this place rock!

Like this place, the coffee is good and they offer coconut milk lattes which is great for people like me who cant have dairy or soy. Staff always welcoming and a comfortable environment. I have never had any of there food so I cannot comment on that. Bathrooms are pretty old and dirty looking though.

Good lattes. Good food(breakfast burritos and pastries). Haven’t tried the sandwiches. Been here several times and have always enjoyed it.

Ok so I guess what I previously wrote was a tip not a review ! Coffee not too bad and just consumed a delicious gluten free brownie. Stop on by, they even have some kids toys by the front counter.

Out here in CO visiting family and trying to do some work at the same time. Came to the bean for some breakfast and a 3 hour session in front of my laptop. The coffee and food were good, but the folks behind the counter were great. Not to mention the free WiFi, great natural lighting, music and all of the art on display and for sale from local artists. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in town.

I sort of stumbled upon this place while exploring Berthoud on a Sunday morning, and as a coffeehouse fiend, I was so pleasantly surprised. I got a cup of the cheapest coffee(price, not quality, that is) I’ve yet had in Colorado, and the warmth of the ambiance was matched only by the people working there. The only thing that could be better would be a little sidewalk patio(which might be out of their control). Bravo, Da Bean.

NOW under NEWOWNERSHIP and it’s called DABEAN Not much has changed on the menu, just the name of the coffee shop, but the atmosphere is waaaay more pleasant. More smiles, happier people. Good change.

Excellent Coffee and Low-Key Atmosphere, Outstanding Baked Goods, Good WiFi, A Little Pricey for Berthoud and the Service is a Bit Slow. The Jumping Bean offers everything you would expect from a competent coffee shop — all of the usual fancy pants coffee drinks, plus a respectable selection of gourmet drip coffees. They also offer excellent pastries and other baked goods. They have absolutely the best, richest, moistest, frostingest, biggest carrot cake I have ever had. If you like carrot cake DONOT pass this up. You will have a hard time finishing the enormous slice they provide. The breakfasts are good overall. They do quick breakfasts(bagel sandwiches, etc) on weekdays, and full breakfasts on weekends. Since Grandpa’s Café closed, it’s probably the quickest and one of the better breakfasts in town. They also do lunch and dinner on weekdays. I have not tried these, but am told their lunch sandwiches are very tasty. Biggest downside, and the reason they don’t get 5 stars(for Berthoud at least) is that their prices are a bit high. I still am put off by cafes that charge several dollars for a coffee drink — and to the Jumping Bean’s credit they are not alone here. But in a town this small, with a huge cross-section of economic situations and pain thresholds, they ought to sell some low-end food and drinks that everyone can feel good about. Jeez, just sell Folgers for 60 cents a cup. To put it bluntly, they’re kind of high-falutin’ for just a coffee shop, in just a little two-horse town. Also, their service has been pretty slow sometimes, particularly mid-mornings. Usually I’m not trying to get things to go, so it’s not such a big deal, but it would be hard to imagine stopping in for a coffee on my way to a meeting when I’m already running late. They just are not in a hurry to serve, even though they’re extremely polite and helpful. Their wireless internet is free and fast. A few of the tables are near power outlets. The café is always well lit and feels very comfortable, almost like home. They have a basket of toys for the kids, tons of current newspapers and magazines to read, and they have a lot of local artists’ work up on the walls to admire and to purchase. I believe the proprietress is one of the artists, and a good one at that. As with every business in town, you’re likely to run into someone you know if you live here for awhile and stop in more than once per year.
