You’re not going to find better brisket. You just aren’t. The bark isn’t overpowering, the smoke flavor is amazing, and the quality of the meat they use puts them out in front of any other place I’ve been. Get the moist. The lean is great alone and for sandwiches, sure, but their moist brisket should be eaten by itself. It practically melts. I truly cannot compare their moist brisket to any other I’ve ever had. Be aware that even their mild sausage is pretty spicy. Their sauce, too, is not what you might be used to(I love the stuff); it’s pretty thin, and served hot, with diced onions(I think? Not sure. Diced something.) and spices in it. It has its own flavor, but doesn’t overpower the meat at all. And if you’re used to party slaw like you get at the grocery, you may be surprised — pleasantly, I hope — by their rough-cut, vinegar-dressed slaw. It’s VERY good, but it’s not for everyone and that’s okay. This is a real bbq place, not like a Rudy’s at a gas station(love you, Rudy’s, but you’re hit-and-miss) — they make as much as they make and when they run out, that’s all there is. Depending on how busy they are over the weekend, they may sell out early. If you go later in the day on a Sunday, after about 1pm, you should call ahead rather than risk being disappointed. I do not see this a problem at all, and reviewers that give one star because these lovely folks were out of meat late on a Sunday just don’t know how real bbq works. Last thing: my family loves this place. We go there, in ones and twos or sometimes as a crowd, a lot. Their quality is ABSOLUTELYCONSISTENT. You never get a plate that is just okay; it’s always top-notch, every single time we go. That, I feel, speaks to the commitment these folks make to doing what they love. This place is definitely worth the trip.

Enjoyed the juicy tender brisket, spicy sausage and potato salad. I usually prefer a thicker sauce but this one was good. The reviews are spot-on about the banana pudding. Very friendly atmosphere in a historic Bertram building. This is a nice place to venture out to on a Saturday or Sunday for lunch. We’ll be back with friends and family.

Worth the stop! We had ribs, brisket & spicy sausage. All were great. Sausage had a great flavor. Really liked their sauce. It’s not your typical thick sauce but very flavorful. Potato salad was a mustard based and was nicely seasoned. Friendly service too. They were out of chicken, so it must be good too!

Outstanding. I was craving some BBQ while previewing property on 29. I was stopped at the light on 29 and saw this place. It didn’t look crowded so I whipped in. I was pleasantly surprised. The brisket had great flavor and fell apart in my hands. The sausage had terrific flavor and just enough spice. Pricing wasn’t great but not terrible. The sauce seemed more like an au jus but had great flavor. I really liked the place and you must save room for the whipped banana pudding as it is unbelievable.

This barbecue is worth the trip from Austin! The brisket is incredibly tender, and has a great smoke flavor! If you’re going for a day trip around the lake, you should definitely stop in! Even if not heading out this way, it’s well worth the drive!

Wow I cannot believe that there are no reviews of this delicious DELICIOUS Central Texas BBQ! These guys quit their corporate America jobs, spent a couple of years PERFECTING their pit and wow, they NAILED it!!! The Brisket is succulent… juicy, smoked through and through, just about perfection. One sauce, nothing fancy, just perfect flavor for this incredible beef. Not too many sides, they are good but who needs them when you have ribs and sausage like this? Save the potato salad for backyard bbq… I’ve met several people, out of towners, who tell me they can’t pass through Bertram without stopping at this little gem. Keep up the great work boys!!!

I give this place 5 stars, it is pretty good, and considering it’s location it’s practically the only thing to eat over there so it technically doesn’t have to be good and people would come. It definitely is good though. Juicy BBQ, moist brisket the way I like it. The potato salad was good too. There ribs were fall of the bone. The best thing is the Banana Pudding, we got one to share, but it was too good we had to get one for each of us. I would definitely come back next time I’m at Best of the West. I highly recommend stopping here to get some BBQ if you are in town.

I consider myself a BBQ savvy man, even smoking meat professionally for a short stint. With that being said, this is great BBQ. The brisket and ribs I ordered had great smoke flavor, perfect moistness & were served nice and hot. It was good enough that it didn’t need BBQ sauce, but I did like their sauce. The only complaint I have is the sides weren’t anything special. The beans didn’t seem to have anything in them but pepper. They weren’t bad but far from great, there wasn’t any pork/beef fat or pieces in it for flavor. The potato salad was also lacking in my opinion. The coleslaw was good, made with vinegar and had a kick to it. I would’ve quickly given 5stars if the sides were better, but I will go back because the meat was really good!

Wish I had something to say other than a business should be open their posted times. If not put up a sign. Big disappointment.

Hands down the best bbq in the entire world. We had the chopped brisket sandwich and the pulled pork sandwich. The pulled pork was a feature so I don’t know how often it’s available. It must be said that I would willingly take a detour to get to this place if I am an hour out from it. Highway 29 Bbq is in an old building with a quaint feel.

I love Central Texas Texas bbq and consider myself a connoisseur of sorts. What I’m going to say is bold without doubt, but I think the brisket here is as good as Snows, LaBbq, or Franks. Neck to neck seriously. I’ve been thrice just to make sure it wasnt a fluke. Try the hot sausage too, you won’t be disappointed. And do yourself a favor and don’t get the lean brisket. For Christ sake, that’s like ordering a steak well-done.

This is so good BBQ. I am never disappointed with the quality of the food. This a great local joint. I am glad to have it near by. You pay some in the price for the convienence of good food near by in Bertram. I would recommend eating here.

I am SOGLAD we stopped here for lunch, it was as good or better than any BBQ in Austin. Best sausage I’ve ever had(the jalapeño sausage definitely has some serious kick). Incredible brisket, great sauce, and the banana pudding is everything it’s hyped up to be. If I was really searching for a negative I’d say the potato salad was a little too mustard-y for my taste, but that’s if I’m really searching. Can’t recommend highly enough!

So yummy! You can smell this place driving down the road. As soon as you park and get out of the car your mouth will be watering. The brisket was so good I’d almost slap my mama to have some more. My only complaint about this place is that there are not a lot of side options. However, this place is fairly new and I’m hoping after a while they will add some more options. It may not look like much in this tiny little town but don’t be fooled, you should definitely make the stop for some dang good bbq.

AMAZING! My first visit & I highly recommend this place! Ribs and brisket were the best I’ve ever had(and I’ve been a brisket judge before)! And the Banana bread pudding far exceeded my expectations-I could eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner ! Fan & customer for life now!

Me and a buddy made the trip to Austin, as we always do about this time of the year for the Texas High school state track meet. We took the drive out to Hwy 29 bbq, and let me tell you it was worth it. Upon our arrival at 29 the beautiful smell of pit bbq could be smelled in the parking lot. It is the smell of heaven on earth for a dedicated meat eater. When we entered the building, from the the domino to the 29 on the wall, to half of the space having picnic style tables. The places says Texas bbq. We were met by a trio of people at the counter, one of them being the owner Cori, all of them wearing smiles. Now for the best part the food… i ordered a two meet plate(ribs and brisket) with a side of pulled pork under the direction of Cori and it has changed my life. A fellow Unilocalper Julie Ann M. Unilocaled that the brisket rivals Franklin’s and i must agree. The moist brisket at 29 is like all the things that you love. It goes in the list with your mom, taking vacation, and being able to sleep in on a off day. Not to be left off of the list is there banana pudding. Dont bring anything that you love with you cause you will give it up or sale it for more of the brisket or banana pudding. The ribs are some of the best i ever had and the pulled pork melts in your mouth. The beans were also good and the olive oil based cole slaw is a great change of pace. In short, when i die find the owners of hwy 29 bbq Cori and Molly. Buy some banana pudding and moist brisket and place it in my casket. So when i get to heaven and if by chance i don’t make it in. I will have something with me that God will want and i get in cause i brought it to him. To the owners and workers of Hwy 29 bbq keep up the good work.

Dare I say it? Hopefully not too many people will read this review, but I must give credit where it’s due, just please don’t make me wait in line around the block next time I come. Ok, I’ll say it quietly, ssshhhh… the brisket here can rival Franklins! It may even be better, I’m not sure, I’d have to give a side by side comparison of the two when I’m not starved with anticipation for 2 – 5 hours of waiting in line, my head clouded with smokey goodness. Bertram is a cute quiet tiny town, and this place could be easily missed or possibly mistaken for closed, as the streets don’t seem to ever be busy. We noticed an amazing beef jerky scent when walking through the door, which later figured must be compliments of the generous course seasoning on the ribs. The brisket was thick cut, moist, seasoned perfectly and very tender. I didn’t care for the BBQ sauce, good flavor but very thin and watery, although the meat stands on its own so it wasn’t missed. I liked the idea of the slaw, vinaigrette not a mayo based, but it could of used a little more something to punch up the flavor. Maybe more vinegar or a sprinkle of salt… They serve you the pickles, onions, jalapeños from behind the counter, they aren’t just sitting out for everyone to finger at their leisure. The onions were sliced smaller then you usually see, which fit nicely when stacking your own sandwich together, and every piece was fresh, not one bit of partial onion peel! Banana pudding is as good as people mention, light and fluffy with bits-o-banana and possible wafer cookies mixed in, all topped with cinnamon. Crushed walnuts would make it even better, but that’s just my thought. AND they have Mexican cokes! I used to just think they tasted better because of the glass bottle, my mom would tell me not to drink them because she thought they were made in Mexico with Mexican water. Hahaha. It was only a few years ago, when in Nicaragua, that I discover it’s because they are made with real cane sugar, instead of the high fructose corn syrup we dump in them here in the states. Overall an excellent BBQ, would stop by when passing through for sure, probably even drive out of the way to go there… yes, yes I probably would.

I had my wedding in Georgetown a few weeks ago and my soon-to-be in-laws wanted real Texas BBQ… I knew I had to take them to see 29. The food is always amazing and the owner was even nice enough to show the family around the joint. I absolutely love this place, I stop by every time I’m back in Georgetown /Austin area. Always worth the trip!
