I got drug out here… Pun intended(if you are familiar with Bethel Island’s more commonly know name.) Chuckle. Paradise(?) is located in the Sugar Bar Resort, which is actually a really nice campground with grass, lots of trees, families, that didn’t seem obnoxious, a pool! and Paradise. It is on the marina, and has 2 levels. The lower floor, is much quicker at getting your drinks, as all the action is on the top floor. When you pull your boat up, staff will scurry to help you tie up your craft. I am told, or was, that it is a hot spot featuring live bands until 5:30pm, then karoke, didn’t stay around for that. I also was told that a 25-late 30 year old crowd abounded. Well, not today. It was nice and breezy and a bit sleezy… Reminded of me when I cocktailed at the P-Town hotel some years ago, on Thurs.& Fri. nights A bunch of drunk, over 50 year olds trying to do Patrick Swayze dirty dancin’, tryin’ to get some action. Might have been entertaining if I could ignore the deja Vu ebee-geebies encompassing my being. So needing a cocktail. The cocktails are a bit expensive and not enough booze in them, but probably for good reason, so I didn’t mind. The servers were nice, but none seemed to be smiling, including the outdoor grill cook. The mostly 80’s cover band, was pretty darn good. The as forementioned crowd dancing, eww, not sooo good! The gilr singer belted out some fine reditions of Pat Benetar, John Mellencamp, Janis Joplin, and Stevie Nicks even if she did have an annoying habit, of telling a story and introducing each song. We only had the calamari, which was very over-priced, but astonishingly fresh, perfectly cooked, and delicious! Over-all, a fine time, especailly if I was a decade & ½ older on THIS day.
