Ben Franklin is a local five and dime store where I grew up. This is the place we would come after church and get some candy, or get crafts for a sleepover. Ben Franklin really is a staple of my childhood. Although small, this place really packs a punch in what it can hold. Everything from model airplane kits, to dress making materials and walls upon walls of craft items. My favorite part was pushing that big red door open to see the giant bank of candy. The candy is sold for anywhere between five and twenty five cents. So when you are a kid you can actually buy it with your own money and you feel like a big-shot. They had candy from when my parents were kids. This is nostalgia heaven people! You would take whatever you wanted up to the small glass counter and a nice older woman who was the only one running the store most of the time, would check you out on an old school cash register. This place is straight out of the 50’s and hasn’t changed one bit since then. A super fun place to just walk around and look. The prices are high because well, they can’t afford to manufacture crafts for pennies like the big boxes but what you get in genuine and authentic. This place is the real deal and I come here every time I come home.
